Malzahar is an incredibly powerful ap powerhouse. Although he is really squishy, he can dish out tons of damage in a very short time, making him one of the best mages in the game (in my opinion). This build has won me tons of games with malzahar so i thought I would pass it around.

I use runes to maximize ability power in early game laning, so that you can dominate mid without a problem, no matter who you are laning against. Flat ability power runes and a little magic penetration work wonderfully.

These masteries are to increase your damage output and highly increase your mana regen and reduce cooldowns as much as possible. I find that this works better than maxing your offensive abilities since the cooldown reduction is very necessary.

Just like in every other guide, i use these because i have always used these and they always work when i use them. If you think you can do better with other summoner spells than use them. These are the ones i'm most comfortable with.

Farming minions is a very important part of playing malzahar successfully. Your E is a minion farming machine, jumping to another minion if the previous minion it was casted on was killed, and regenerating your mana if it successfully transfers. This is an easy way to rack up minion kills and catch your opponent off guard if they dont realize that it can jump to them as well. Later on if you feel its necessary, you can use your Q to get alot of minion kills in a very short time period. Using your E to keep your mana at a sufficient level is also very important in the laning phase, just make sure the minions you cast it on are going to die while it's in them. When your voidling is active this is made easier, since it is attracted to the enemy that is infected by E.

GET E FIRST. alot of people get malzahar's Q first and im not sure why. With E you can farm minions VERY easily, and it does ridiculous amounts of damage to the enemy champion at lvl 1. Remember, because of the high amount of ability power that we have early game with the runes and amplifying tome, you want to try and be aggressive in getting some early kills. Next you should get your Q to increase your ease of harassing with its long range. Using Q to silence your enemy gives you time to get close enough to use E without them being able to retaliate. W is next, and until you get your ult, i wouldn't use this very often, except when necessary. Once you have your ult your skill sequence is going to be W,E,R. When this is done you want to try to do it fast enough to suppress your target on top of your W. If all 3 spells are cast successfully, your damage output is huge and its almost a sure kill. If however it is not, you can finish them off afterwards with your Q. Just be sure to hit them.

Team fights are easy with malzahar. do the above combo on the highest damage dealer on the enemy team (if you can reach them without getting in the middle of the shiit). And after that simply cast your E on a champion of your choice, and use your W and Q to deal damage to as many as possible. Remember not to get too close because of how squishy malzahar is.

Amplifying Tome
Great increase in early game ability Power. Add this to the runes and you do ridiculous early game damage.

Health Potion
Keeps you in the lane longer

Hextech Revolver
This spellvamp can help you stay in the lane for a longer period of time, and help you win a 1v1 tremendously.

Sorcerers Shoes
The classic mage boots, for movement speed and some magic pen.

Will of the Ancients
Great aura for your teammates, and the spellvamp is awesome on malzahar believe it or not. Also a large amount of ability power.

Rabadon's Death Cap
Awesome item to skyrocket your ability power.

Rylais crystal scepter
Good amount of hp for survivability, high amount of ability power, and a slowing effect that can change the game.

Zhonya's Hourglass
I have reviewed and tested this instead of the previous deathcap i had here, and i found that the active and armor that it gives outweighs the extra ability power given by deathcap in the long run.

Abyssal Scepter
This item is situational. Use this if your enemy team has alot of ability power champions that are dealing to much damage. If they have too much attack damage, go for zhonya's hourglass. And if your not too worried about your defense, go for a void staff.

malzahar deals out incredible amounts of damage to multiple enemies, if built correctly. With this build you won't have a problem with that. Farming is key in malzahars gameplay though. Using E in the lane is very important to get minion kills and stay on the offensive. Just remember that he is a squishy champion and can't take alot of hits, so don't play him like your playing Olaf or something. Also remember that his ultimate is vulnerable to silences, and that can really screw you over. I hope you enjoy and approve of this build, and thanks for taking a look.
