Introduction

One day I was playing Yi with a standard 100% crit chance build, but then I realized how much more survivable he could be with a few adaptions. This build does not deal as much damage as others, I'll admit, but you get a lovely 40% life steal that enables you to do a million times better!

I'm no expert, but I can tell you that when Yi regenerates half his health while mowing you down in one hit, it definitely is annoying.

So if you want a Yi that sacrifices a little damage, but steals so much life to the point there he cant die, stick around!

Pros / Cons

+ Near invincible late game
+ Fantastic split pusher
+ Good attack speed
+ Good at escaping

- You need to hit to stay alive
- Destroyed by stuns
- Enemies will yell at you

Runes

Marks of Attack Speed - The quicker you attack, the more life you steal.
Marks of Attack Damage - Slight increase to damage output
Seal of Armor & Glyph of Magic Resistance - Help you stay alive longer while stunned/not able to attack
Quint of Life Steal - Increase amount of life stolen
Quints of Attack Damage - Maximize output

Masteries

Nothing much to say, standard 21-9-0 setup which works with many champions

Spells

Flash - Great for escaping, you may need it if you have been stunned and are about to die.
Ignite - Increases damage output, and is great for finishing off people who have good escapes eg Tristana, Fizz

Alternatives
Ghost - Also great for escaping, chasing, ganking etc
Exhaust - Stops escapes, maximizes outputs etc

Abilities

Q is your main ability, use it as often as possible. Maximize it first, win the game.
You wont need points into your W until the end as your life steal will do the job. Instead, maximize you E. This is a basic steroid and makes clearing and killing faster.

Laning + Teamwork

You can play whatever lane you want with Yi! He works best as a solo top, but that is just my personal preference. He works as an ADC, or even a mid. There is no lane where Yi cannot play as he melts through any enemy.

As for teamwork, you want to gank as often as possible. I know that is the junglers job, but when your lane is clear and you don't want to push, just slip down into another lane and slice through everyone. Initiate with Q, then E to amplify your basics. If you really need it, use your R too, you'll melt them even faster.

Backdooring

Yi is a fantastic split pusher. Its late game, maybe the enemies are pushing mid and you need a quick comeback, what do you do? Get Yi to jump down into bot or top and use your E to cream through turrets. If you may not even need minions to tank the turret, just steal all your life back from enemy minions. However, its always better to have minions. Before they know it, you will have melted through to their inhibitor and be on the way to victory!

If they come too close and you think you cant take them, slap your R and RUUUUUUUUN!

Summary

Yi is often seen as a noob champ, as he is easy to play and has an extremely high output. However he is a load of fun. This particular build differs from the rest, as it sacrifices slight damage output in return of extreme life steal. I prefer this, and it annoys the enemies a whole load more!

Thank you for getting this far! This build has been made by a 'lvl 28 scrub' known as PigeonHudson. Feel free to add me and play whenever on EU West. If you do like this, please leave a rating and a comment, it would help a lot. This is my first build, and to some people I am considered a noob, so please dont hate.

Thanks!
