This guide will tell you how to solo top against pretty much any AD bruiser that the other team has sent to get fed so they can snowball to the end game... Your job is to not only shut them down, but dominate your lane and get a ridiculous amount of creep score before the team fights start to happen.
The runes are pretty much standard for any ap mage with the magic resist glyphs (the per level are nice but i prefer to have it all at once in case of a mage possible coming top to cancel a lot of their damage) the flat armor seals, and the magic pen marks. The cool thing about this build is that you get the spell vamp quints which are extremely strong in the early mid and late game. You start with 9% spell vamp which is almost a full hextech revolver's worth and then when you build that, you have over 20% already... You see where this is going. You want to be able to heal yourself for more life than your shield is granting you which means that you get 35% shield from damage and more than that back in life late game. You can be invincible if your doing enough damage much like a fed master yi with alot of attack speed and life steal.
The masteries are basic AP mage materies with 9/0/21 and i take that spell vamp in the utility tree and the magic pen in the offence tree. This will set you up for the mid to late game.
The build im following is different im aware because MORDEKAISER IS NOT A TANK. Building him tanky is ******ed because he has lower base stats compared to any other tank or bruiser in the game because his passive is supposed to make him tanky. If you are doing enough damage with enough spell vamp, you will be tanky in any team fight as long as you continue to do damage. Also the spirit vissage cool down reduction is really nice with his already short as hell cool downs and allows you to gain your shield even more, AND it makes any healing effects (yes spell vamp too) 15% stronger.
Most builds say to Max W last and Q second. We will get to that. Your E is your main source of damage when laning, poking, and team fights. It is an incredible nuke aoe spell and this is where most of your shield is coming from. Your W i always get at level 2 and max it second because it not only allows you to push over minion waves faster, you can put it on minions tanking a turret so that the solo top going against you will have to take damage in order to hurt it. Also this makes you somewhat tankier than that bruiser early game which is extremely helpful. His Q hits multiple targets and destroys single targets if they are alone and there is no one for the other 3 charges to spread to. Finally ALWAYS GET YOUR ULTIMATE.
Always take Ignite because you can put this on someone when you have your ulti on them too which puts a ridiculous amount of dot damage on your target. Also take ghost because flash just doesnt get you away as well as ghost. Flash can get you through walls but if your running away, kha'zix's leap lets him go about as far as a flash... think about that.

Hide behind your minions when laning and always poke the full lane of minions and the enemy with your E. Always put W on yourself and walk around through the wave or right before you go to poke your enemy. Use Q on minions when farming too because you use NO MANA.
