Why Mundo?
Mundo is one of my go-to-have-fun-champions whenever i feel im having a bad/salty game and decided to mess around and kick back with friends or by myself to vent. and its usually fun and it makes me smile everytime im near death and brings the hype in me and having a good time which is usually what league is about most of the time right? have fun on your least try hard champs and because mundo is fun to play theres nothing much complexity about him also he is my FIRST EVER guide for him because its easier to explain and not much to show about it, maybe i'll share more builds and guides in the future and expand the fun and hype moments with everyone here as much i have with Mundo and other champs i play as.

In teamfights mundo's gameplay is the following :
You stand in the middle of the teamfight dealing damages all around you and tanking
Mundo can tank more sustained damages but fewer burst damages than other tank. So you mustn't try to tank everything all the time.
elseway, to decide what to focus in a fight, when your Q is ready, just look into a ~400 unit circle next to you, choose a target and go, trying to get kill usually don't work, helping an ally usually give better result.

Early game
well, gameplay in early game is to farm, not champions, just minions ! if opponent jump at you, E + Q, then you go away peacefully, eventually you can fight a bit longer, until you get your Q again, and then you disengage.
Don't take risk, and you will be rewarded. you don't have to look for kills, they will come at you by themself.
if you fear your opponent can truly hurt you, farm with Q, use E under tower to last hit peacefully and all will be ok. It's even easier to farm under tower than in the middle of the lane sometimes, because of minions blocking the path.
Mid game
if you TP to kill someone, but there is no allies with some stun/root to help you, it must be useless
so look at the map, as much as if you were playing support, prevent lanes from pushing, secure objective as if you are jungler, push when you can, work with your team in order to get the better results.
Late game
engage, get chased, run for your life, meet your team, dance while regenerating with warmog, tank everything everything, go everywhere you are needed, sometimes go back to the lane for stuff. You can, you are Mundo

Mundo and HP :
There is a statistic rule that link HP to armor/MR :
if you have 4K HP and no armor/MR it's uneffective/not cost efficient
if you have 400 armor/MR and only 1K HP, it's uneffective/ not cost efficient as well
The good balance between both stats is something 1 armor AND MR for each 14 life point (over 14*100, because 1 armor and MR will give the equivalent of +1% HP)
so good balance is ~ 20 armor OR MR for every 300 HP that exceed 1400
Again, if you have under 1400 HP, you normally don't need armor MR
in fact they are still useful because it allows to take less damages so "facilitate "the HP regen (it's like if you were including in the calculation the use of pots and your HP regen over time)

sterak's build updated to take in account changes in CDR given by lucidity boots and trinity force.
pending for test :
the efficiency of armor quintessence
a possible switch between the classic (main) build and the sterak's (optional) build. the new masteries made the optional build more valuable compared to the classic.
need to be fixed :
actually, the tier 5 mastery "grasp of the undying" seems to be a must have for any mundo top. But it's not that perfect... firstly the mastery seems to apply only on autohit, secondly Mundo must stay on fight for 4 sec to beneficiate from the bonus, the problem is the Q spell has a cooldown of 4 sec as well. and as the refresh will be only "on hit", you almost always lose the bonus. So starting with a few CDR runes seems to be needed (just 3 or 5%).
