Champion Build Guide

Nami the Unkillable

By TimGr
About the Creator
Hey, I'm Tim, and I'm a Nami main. This season I'm gold 4, and I have a 57% win rate on Nami with 164 games. In season 9, I really grinded hard and hit plat playing almost exclusively Nami, and I truly think since then she's gotten better. My IGN is TimGr in NA, and you can add me on Discord if you want to talk about my guide or request matchups at TimGraupner#9438.
Pros and Cons
PROS
+ Surprising Damage
+ Strong Team Buffs
+ Cheap to Build
+ Fun to Play
+ Difficult to Kill
+ Big CC
+ Is a Fish
Nami is a lot of fun to play. Her kit and this build is focused around a strong early game, followed by permanently buffing your team as they win fights and chase anyone down, securing the ace and making it easy for them to get objectives. This build is very cheap, and most games you'll end up finishing the build, or at least getting close.
CONS
- Super Squishy
- Hard to Play
- Mana Issues Early
- No Dash or Blink
- Horrible Waveclear
- Slow Auto Attacks
While Nami can snowball hard, and surprise the enemies, she's very weak against assassins. Her main CC is slow and can be tough to land, and is susceptible to getting burst down. If she's alone, she can't push a lane very well, and even clearing jungle champs is very slow. This also makes it difficult to clear multiple wards before your red trinket runs out.
Abilities

Surging Tides (Passive) When Nami's Abilities hit allied champions they gain Movement Speed for a short duration.
Nami's passive is severely underrated. It gives a flat amount of movement speed, scaling based on Nami's AP. This helps your team chase down the survivors of a teamfight, helps them engage at the beginning of a teamfight, and helps your ADC escape from any ganks. It also works on you, helping you survive when you could get caught, or to help you bait.

Aqua Prison (Q) Sends a bubble to a target area, dealing damage and stunning all enemies on impact.
This is Nami's bread and butter, the bubble. It's slow and telegraphed, so it takes some time to get used to. However, it's excellent for casting out of a bush on an unsuspecting enemy, especially if you have your ADC with you to burst them down. It's also great for kiting or turning fights. Combo it with a big Gnar ult or similar ability to bubble more than one enemy and let your team shred them before they can move. Just make sure to use it where the enemy is moving to.

Ebb and Flow (W) Unleashes a stream of water that bounces back and forth between allied and enemy champions, healing allies and damaging enemies.
Nami's W is her heal, which will keep you and your ADC healthy through lane. It bounces from allies to enemies, and from enemies to allies, hitting up to 3 targets. It won't hit the same target twice, so in a 2v1 you should use it on your allies, and in a 1v2 you should use it on the enemies.

Tidecaller's Blessing (E) Empowers an allied champion for a short duration. The ally's basic attacks and spells deal bonus magic damage and slow the target.
Tidecaller's blessing buffs the target allies (or your own) next 3 attacks or abilities, slowing the target(s). Coupled with passive and Aery, it shields and speeds up the target too. This is great for helping chase down an enemy, or to kite them to death. Using it on yourself can help you set up a bubble by slowing them with an autoattack or a W.

Tidal Wave (R) Summons a massive Tidal Wave that knocks up, slows, and damages enemies. Allies hit gain double the effect of Surging Tides.
Finally, Nami's ultimate is a huge wave that knocks up and slows enemies. Because it gives double the effect of her passive, this ability is great to use from behind your team, so they can ride the wave into the enemies and pop them ASAP. It's also a good way to extend the stun from bubble, doing a surprising amount of damage and stunning an enemy for a good while. You can also use it to interrupt channels, stop abilities like Lee Sin's Q or Lucian's dash. It's Nami's primary engage and disengage.

Runes

Summon Aery
Aery is unquestionably the best keystone for Nami. In lane you're autoing the enemies all the time, and Aery adds damage to that. It also shields an ally when you use an ability on them, meaning if your heal is down, your E can still save them from the last tick of ignite.

Manaflow Band
Nami is mana hungry early. Manaflow band makes sure she isn't later.

Celerity
Nami desperately needs to get away, and get to her teammates quickly. Celerity helps her with both. Use her E to move even faster on the way to the action!

Scorch
Scorch helps Nami tack on even more damage while harassing in lane, sometimes giving you that extra edge to secure the kill.

Biscuit Delivery
Biscuits give Nami an extra bit of mana in lane, and some permanent mana for the rest of the game. Use one for an extra W on yourself or your ADC.

Magical Footwear
This gives Nami free boots, and faster boots. Combined with celerity and passive, these can give you some serious speed!

Build Path

Spellthief's Edge
While your ADC farms, you're autoing the enemy. Spellthief's rewards you for doing so. If the enemy backs, try to get 3 autos on the tower before you back with your ADC for the extra 60 gold.

Dark Seal/Mejai's Soulstealer
This is secretly the best item on Nami. Either the enemy focuses you and dies to the rest of your team, or they don't and you end up with full stacks on a mejai's. With Nami's survivability from her passive and heal, she's surprisingly good at holding onto her stacks, and more AP means more healing for your team! The movement speed from a 10+ stack Mejai's is also great for Nami.

Moonstone Renewer
This gives Nami ability haste, ability power, health, and mana regen. Those are the stats Nami needs. The passive keeps your team even healthier when fighting.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Nami gets plenty of movement speed from her runes and items, so lucid boots are the best option. Faster cooldown means more healing and more buffing.

Ardent Censer
Once you finish ardent censer, your ADC is able to win almost any fight. It makes you heal more, it makes them attack faster, and it makes them do more damage. Because of Aery, it procs on both E and W, so when taking Drake or Baron, E your ADC and then W your jungler, so that they both benefit from the buff.

Staff of Flowing Water
This item is great if you have an AP scaling caster who is carrying. Your heals and shields will give them some extra AP and cooldown reduction, making them a little bit stronger. It's also not bad on ADCs like Ezreal.

Watchful/Vigilant Wardstone
Wardstone is always a good pick if you don't know what to buy. It lets you have 4 vision wards and 2 control wards on the map at any given time (once it upgrades at level 13). It also gives AD, AP, health, and ability haste, which isn't bad for Nami.

Chemtech Putrifier
Putrifier is a good pick against healers if your team doesn't have the healing reduction. Shielding or healing an ally will give them the healing reduction for the next 5 seconds.

Redemption
Redemption lets you heal your team when taking baron, or when teamfighting. It works even if you're dead, and can help turn the tide of a battle in your favor.

Mikael's Blessing
Build Mikael's if your carry keeps getting CCed, and then remember to use it on them.

Elixir of Sorcery
This build is pretty cheap, so if you finish all your items don't forget to buy an elixir to give you a little more power.

Laning Phase
In lane, you want to auto attack the enemy whenever they extend for CS. If you can land a bubble, go for it, and then auto them as soon as the bubble lands. Be ready to E your ADC or jungler when they go in, and then hang back and keep them alive with W and Q. At 6, if you land a double bubble, ult and then focus the ADC. Play aggressive, but don't go to crazy if your ADC is passive. Try to keep vision on drake, and help your jungler if they go for it. If the enemy jungler thinks they can take it alone and don't clear your vision, wait until they're low and then bubble them, E yourself, W them, and ignite. Your damage and the dragon's damage should be able to kill them.
After Lane
In teamfights, stay behind your team and bubble whoever is on your most fed ally. Ult if you're going in, and follow it up with a bubble on their mid or ADC. Spam your W, and E whoever is attacking their most mobile damage. If an enemy is low, don't be afraid to finish them off yourself.
Tips and Tricks
  • If you're behind an ally chasing an enemy, E yourself and then W the ally. This will speed you up, speed the ally up, and then the W will bounce and slow the enemy.
  • Always E yourself first when running away. That way, any spells that hit the pursuer will slow them down.
  • E one ally before you W another to make sure Aery shields one and you heal another. This doubles the effect of ardent censer and staff of flowing water.
  • Your ult does a decent amount of damage. You can catch pushing enemies by surprise by ulting them under your tower, and quickly killing the minions. If you land a bubble and finish off the minions, you can likely get a cheesy kill.
  • If an enemy is in close pursuit, Q on top of yourself and flash as soon as it lands. More often than not, this will stun the enemy, and you'll get the speed boost from your passive when the Q hits you.
  • Especially with Mejai's, Nami is great bait. Sweep a bush with a teammate in it, and then show yourself on minions. Pretend to run away, and then turn around and ult, bubble, and E the ally.
  • Don't forget to buy control wards, and don't be afraid to place a new one in a more important spot.
  • If you reveal a ward, try to let an ally last hit it. You both get full gold if they last hit it but you revealed it.
  • If you're in dragon pit, you can always ward tribush by placing a ward directly on the snail at the bottom of the pit.
  • Learn how much damage Nami can dish out. If you have a few early stacks on dark seal, you can usually burst a squishy ADC or support by yourself.
  • Once you have a good amount of AP, your W will actually increase its heal or damage amount each time it bounces.
  • If you cast your W on an enemy, you are always in range for it to bounce to you. If you need to heal just a little bit, it's a good idea to bounce it off an enemy first for the extra harass.
