Hello everyone! In this guide, i'd like to introduce how i play Shen, the Eye of Twilight. This is my first guide so i'm not very experienced in this and you may notice that while reading. I would consider myself as a rather decent player, although i don't play much ranked, so i don't know how well this works in ranked.
I actually haven't played shen for such a long time, i just recently opened my eyes for him and i really enjoy playing him as solo top, and below, you will read how i play Shen, as solo top.

First of, i'd like to introduce shen as a champion.
Shen can be played as both support and solo top, probably also jungler but i wouldn't recommend that. But since i play him as solo top, we will focus on that.
Shen is mainly a tank, and won't have a great damage output. But as a solo top he won't really need that.
He has great sustainability during the lane phase, and there is quite few champions who really counters him, especially if you play him carefully and don't overextend much, which you aren't supposed to do either due to his low damage. The safest way to play shen is to lay back and farm minions with your Vorpal Blade, which will ,incase of taking damage, rather quickly heal you back up, which is the head key to his sustainability. Getting a quick Warmog's Armor will add on to that and make him almost impossible to kill early game.

Pros + Tanky! + Great sustainability + Global ulti which can turn around teamfights + Great taunt to engage in teamfights

Cons - Low damage output, especially early game - Rather slow movement speed

My runes

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Although damage ain't your main focus you want to have something to harass with, these runes will do the job.

Greater Seal of Armor
You're a tank, armor is a must!

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
As above, you're a tank, the reason why i choose these over flat MR runes is because you seldom meet a champion that deals much magic damage in the top lane. You're magic resist will do a greater impact later during the game when teamfights occurs.

Greater Quintessence of Health
A great HP boost which will help you tank those turrets!

Optional runes

Greater mark of strenght
Gives a slight AD increase which will make you more painfull and help you lasthit those minions.


Greater Seal of Health
Will increase your early game sustainability, usefull against champs dealing true damage.

greater seal of regeneration
quite usefull against ranged dpsers like teemo.


Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Usefull incase you'll face an AP based champ during lane phase like kennen.

Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
Will allow you to spam your Q more often + taunt.


Greater quintessence of regeneration
I wouldn't even recommend any other runes than Greater Quintessence of Health but these are the only ones i would consider optional.
