Many experienced players don't consider Mundo to be a tank. This is because of his inability to snare/stun. With this build Mundo is a pain train and a force to be reckoned with.
At the beginning of the game I start off with a ruby crystal to allow Mundo to have over 900 hp. Using cleavers intelligently in the lane you can both lane hit creeps and harass heros. Mundo early game is one of the best harassers because of his ability to constantly throw axes with little to no effect. Because Mundo's skills are based upon his health, cleavers virtually do no damage to him.
It is a must to try to stay in the lane as long as possible. If Mundo is level 4-5 and you can safely just stay in the lane, do so. At level 6 his ultimate, sadism, will keep him in the lane for an incredible period of time. Which brings me to my next point. If you are able to last hit with cleavers or are even lucky enough to get a kill rush warmogs. I cannot stress this enough.
Near level 8-12 you should have a few ranks of cleaver to start to harass and push your lane hard. With burning agony used intelligently on the creeps Mundo is able to boost his warmogs to the max. At this point boots should have already been purchased maybe at the same time as warmogs. Boots are always situational. Be smart. If you guys are dominating the enemy team and you are able to pick up a few kills get boots of swiftness. Melee heavy team, Ninja Tabi. Casters or heavy stun, mercury. All of mundos items tend to be situational. For building purposes this is my core build in both 3v3 and 5v5.
Mid game is when Mundo is strongest. Mundo is alright at creeping. Cleaver takes a huge chunk out of creeps health. If you are able to get a dragon buff early do so.
This is when I find Mundo to be the greatest. For one around level 16 you should be pushing close to 3500 hp. Not many heros are going to gank you unless you play dumb. With ghost and his ultimate he is able to quickly charge to save teammates. If you see a teammate in danger and are able to help them do so. YOU ARE THE PAIN TRAIN. Many Mundos forget that they are the tank. Stay out in front, Allow your teammates to do their job. Near the end of the game Mundos items are the most situational. I find myself getting 1 sunfire most of the time, but once again depending on how caster/melee heavy the team is aim your items accordingly.
Get out there. Be the tank for your team. Its so incredible how well Mundo is overlooked at a tank. He is a force to be reckoned with. With the sunfires and the burning agony, you are a threat as a tank. I cannot tell you have many opponents have fallen to the great Mundo. If you find yourself getting low on health ghost out and as you are use regen. Opponents will either ignore you, poor choice, or focus you. If they begin to chase your teammates cleaver them and keep your burning agony running.
Overall I find Mundo to be an incredible hero, and I hope this build can help some of the new or even experienced Mundos out. Just remember Mundo is a tank/damage hero. Utilize it.
