ATTENTION SUMMONERS! This guide is for casual players and how i personally play Rammus if you see problems with it let me know. Anyways, Rammus is in my opinion one of the best tanks in the game due to the fact that he can actually make people focus him,bring down towers solo,and can save peoples ***es with his powerball. The main reason i play Rammus is because i feel like i am tanking damage for the team with my abilities as opposed to champions like mundo who are just there with alot of HP. Note to Tanks and supports
As a tank or support you do not get praised no having a crazy K/D ratio you get praised on assisting your team. So do not try to get kills with somebody such as Rammus because that would be taking away the gold and experience from your carries. There is a exception to this however, an example of this is: Your Tryndamere flashes into the wall and would be unable to reach Soraka allowing her to escape,but you are able to kill her considering she had walked into the bush you are standing in.
Abbreviations and meanings
OOM = out of mana
AD = attack damage
AP = ability power
HP = health points
Initiation = start the fight
Team fight = more than one player on either team fighting
K/D ratio = Kill/death ratio
The build shown is a 5v5 rammus build, but rammus is also a fantastic 3v3 champion. in 3v3 you want to buy ninja tabi first and then build either a
banshees veil for magic resist or thornmail for anti AD,then warmogs after either. Rammus is good at 3v3 in my opinion because when he powerballs he can get anywhere in the map quickly and can take down towers with ease, and 3v3s have a ton of teamfights and rammus is a fantastic teamfighter and can save some lives when in 3v3s every death has a concequence.
The powerball is very flexible and can be used in many ways. Some ways u can use powerball is flashing while in powerball to land on somebody and can initiate a team fight very well. You can also use taunt to pull them to you ,and as soon as taunt wares of use powerball, This can disable a enemy for a long period of time allowing them to be useless in team fights or for a easier gank. If u are trying to save somebody from being chased down your taunt can be more useful then powerball, by taunting the enemy and walking in the opposite direction of your teamate, to increase the distance between the two players. The final trick is when you powerball in the fountain to keep your mana full and then you will be able to move to your lane much quicker and really makes up for not having teleport.
Rammus's rune page will allow him to go OOM less often and take less damage and have more health allowing him to intiate more effectivly and escape alive and continue pushing the lane. The choice of flat mana runes are optional however and can be swaped out for more magic resist.
Rammus should normally lane with AD carries and allow them to farm well and get some nice kills, because you will have the Heart of gold you will not need farm. Regardless of them both being melee the lane will still work well against most laning combos because rammus's taunt can close the ap between champions easily. A excellent way to push towers as rammus is to tank the tower yourself! Rammus's ultimate can bring down towers well and can use it while in defensive ball curl to bring down towers with half HP or lower while reducing damage from the tower,but you should stop attacking the tower if it has a good chunk of HP left and your defensive ball curl wares off.
After getting Randuins,Thornmail,and Warmogs feel free to take whatever is right for the situation at hand, however if there is hardly any AD on the enemy team replace Thornmail with a Banshees Veil for more magic resist. also if anybody you know you will be laning against will have a delay between their abilities (Dark matter/Pillar of flame) grab boots first and replace the time where you buy your boots of speed with your cloth armor.
I use the spells exhaust and flash because flash can be used with powerball for some great initiations and can be used for some awesome escapes and exhaust can be used to slow down a target so that a teamate can escape or a target gets slowed down for a powerball/taunt combo,which can lead to a kill for you or a teamate.
