Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON THIS UPDATES DAILY
I really want to get some shots + videos to show you guys positioning in team fights, warding, and how to protect your carry. It's going to be awesome.
Who I Am and Why I Wrote This.
My name is juslikejesus I am a Bronze Level ELO player trying to get to at least Silver. This is my guide on how to carry as Janna as support. I made this guide because I believe the other support guides lack items and runes that really make Janna an insane champion to face. I believe many builds are not ment to teach players Janna ranked play, and I think all builds I have seen lack good footage of Janna and fail to teach players basic strategy. This is why I think my build is unique, and if you are looking to start a ranked or are looking for new champion that can really carry you out of ELO hell or up higher. This guide is going to be a good resource.
About Janna, and Why She is Deadly and How I Build Her
As a support Janna is strong in many areas, she is the strongest support late game and can be a dominate figure in lane towards the end of early game. As Janna when entering the lane you must be careful, because you will have no ability to heal yourself. Whatever Defensive stats you enter with is all you have to keep you and your partner healthy. This is a key part to my strategy for building Janna. However, luckily for you, you have a champion that can deny even the harshest of ganks. You have the ability to efficiently keep an entire team CC'd and do this over and over again, without damage.
Pros / Cons
- #1 Support in team fights
- Scales well into late game
- Has 3 CCs with low CDS
- Can Guard the carry
- Best ****ing passive ever
- Can stop entire enemy teams
- Is completely game changing
- Super-Tanky and Super-Mobile
- Her ultimate is a full team heal
- No Damage
- Cant tank
- Not the strongest lane support
- Like most supports, you rely on a carry somewhat
For some reason in many support guides i see Mpen, Mp5, and MR or CD runes. I do not think these are the best options at all. When playing as Janna your damage is never going to be good enough to do anything. Its also not necessary, its more essential that you can stay alive, kite, and continue to save team mates.
Choices for runes
1. Greater Mark of Magic Penetration (Flat MRes) 8.73 Mres
2. Greater Mark of Armor(Flat Armor) +8.19 armor
It is vital that you are tanky, as champion with spell that really dont have the ability to do damage and are so useful because of there utility. Mpen is useless, so being a little bit tankier is your best with Janna always. 8 might not seem like a lot but along with the other bonus's you can get following this guide you'll see how the little things add-up
1. Greater Seal of Replenishment(Flat Mp5) 3.69 mp5
2. Greater Seal of Armor(Flat armor, My choice) +12.69 armor
I used to be a big fan of mp5 runes, until I tried playing without them. They dont really help your mana that much, in 1 minute they give you 180 mana. Its better to sacrifice 180 mana worth of moves, about 3 shields at lower levels for some defense since that will keep you laning longer and benefits late game more. Also, if you combine armor seals with armor marks you start at level 1 with + 21 armor and that is definitely worth it.
1. Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction(Flat CD) +5.85 Cooldown Reduction
2. Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist(Scaling Mres) +24.3 Mres @ level 18
Both are good choices after I get shurelyas and maybe a blue buff i end up at about 36% CD reduction with Mres runes. If you wanted to cap it off but not go over you could do a mixture, CD reduction is pretty good on Janna. I however choose the Mres, because I really enjoy initiating team fights. Countless times enemy teams go balls out on me, CC'ing Ulting doing everything to kill me because they think I am an easy target to get away and have my team destroy them. This Mres will allow you to start team fights and get away and allow you're tank to start doing his job while you stand in the background. 24 Mres is a lot, and you're going to need it to withstand bursts from champs like Cass and Annie.
This is the item build I use everytime. because there's simply not that many choices for supports
Starting Items: Faerie Charm 3 Sight Ward
It is so important that you start out with this. As Janna, ganks are not your biggest concern, however a Taric + Vayne lane is going to try and zone you from the bush. You need to keep bushes warded if enemies are in them. DONT FIGHT!
You're probably wondering why my guide has so many Sight wards, and that's because I put about how many you should be buying and when up to about Shurelyas at which point you be lighting up the map. Sometimes you may need more, or less but for laning phase and its transition buying about as many as me should do you good.
I dont get Boots of Speed till after Heart of Gold, because after masteries and your passive you should have enough mspeed to last you till then. The rest is pretty self explanatory.
