Have you considered dorans ring start instead of dorans shield? With dorans ring you can take the merciless mastery. I like CotC best personally. I play him a bit like a mage early until negatron or glacial shroud.

Why Grasp? CotC, TLD, or even Deathfire seem like better masteries IMO.

CotC has a pretty long cooldown and the shield isn't that big early, but to engage lategame teamfights it can be really nice. In my opinion if you are planning to trade a lot in lane Grasp is better because it gives you more sustain and damage. Deathfire is a scaling keystone and if you don't build all that much ap it won't really scale all that well and Thunderlords is really good to win lane with but won't scale into the lategame as well unless the enemy team is really squishy in which case thunderlords can let you deal some suprising damage. So i gues it all comes down to your playstyle if you ask me, if you want to trade a lot in lane take Grasp, if you want to engage teamfights take CotC and if they are really squishy and you want to delete people from fights instantly take thunderlords. But these are just my opinions about those keystones.
