Pros / Cons
-very very mobile
-insanely large damage output
-incredibly fun and entertaining to use
-decent cc, low cd aoe stun and a knockback
-landing skills takes a lot of practise
-not nearly as simple as right clickers
-relies heavily on items
preferably u want top solo, works best, you can also work well with any champ that has nice sustained dps, hell even an ashe works, focus on last hitting
9/0/21 getting all essential non-mana utility masteries and avoiding archaic knowledge in offense tree
you only need a little bit in offense because the utility tree is far more helpful, u can start with 9% cd reduction, very useful but u wanna pick up those movement and increased exhaust masteries. Generic caster utility tree without getting anything having to do with mana. Basically its very similar to what you'd use with mordekaiser or akali. only never take archaic knowledge, u do absolutely no magic damage at all.
pick a bunch of flat runes because as a melee rivens capabilities are far higher than most champs at level 1, this makes her evne stronger allowing for that easy first blood. I love using armor and magic res runes because I find that when you end up building a warmogs the flat resistances combined with the small resistances from the other items you built actually stack up quite nicely. Plus it doesnt hurt to start the game with about 40 amrmor and 50 magic resist. I also take flat armor and magic res because of rivens shield. She can block damage, which of course is lowered by resistances making armor and magic resist all the more useful. I also feel like they're nice cheap runes that cancel out your enemies magic and armor pen runes while also giving you the upper hand.
(and saving ip, some runes are freakin expensive)
wriggles is a great item, but it can be skipped. if you get fed, or the melee on the other team jsut isnt heavy enough, go straight bloodthirster instead of wriggles. U need the bt's damage output before atmogs becuz riven is a bonus ad based champ, u need ad or building jsut survivability leaves her with no damage whatsoever. Once you get atmogs on riven you should start facerolling. Atmas will have boosted riven's damage by about 60 when you finally end up getting it. Then after that you can either go for last whisper or trinity force. I prefer trinity over last whisper first, but if the enemy team is stacking armor, get last whisper and watch them run in terror. If the game actually goes this long, this is when you sell wriggles and start finalizing your build
THIS IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU'RE PALYING VERSUS MANY SQUISHY CHAMPS OR A TEAM WHO DOESN'T BUILD ARMOR, THAT IS THE ONLY TIME I WOULD TAKE YOUMUUS OVER LAST WHISPER. IF THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO VERY TANKY CHAMPIONS WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF ARMOR, LAST WHISPER > YOUMUUS.
brutalizer, and why its not needed
sure, amror pen, cd reductiona nd ad seem fantastic for riven, youmuus just isnt as good as other items she can get though. Last whisper is cheaper and by far more useful that youmuus 90% of the time, especially on an ad nuker.
with riven her e and w decrease in cd per level, you'd think they'd be the logical choice for leveling...nope. You have to raise riven's q because she needs the damage output, and the other abilities have far less use early on. Riven's e is leveled second because of its amazing utility, its a low cd shield that also moves you. Use it to dodge skillshots block ults, i.e karthus, caitlyn, eveen ezreal. The e is very useful for dodgding all manner of attacks and blocking the damage output of those ones you can't dodge. Use it with absolutely no indiscretion whatsoever. :D
I prefer taking exhaust and flash. Flash is great, going over walls, escaping doing whatever you need, and exhaust is just a great spell for crippling carries assuring kills, especially if ur in a solo lane, great for 1 v 1'ing to get fed.
now if you wanna swap ghost in for exhaust or flash thats fine, do whatever fits your playstyle. I jsut avoid using ghost because with this build as soon as riven finishes her boots she has 407 movement speed and the ghost is unneccessary when she also has so many mobility skills that can't go over walls, unlike flash.
riven should not be the one to initiate a battle, however she should be one of the first going in, rivens job in teamfights is to weave autoattacks in between her skills, while disrupting as many enemy champions as she can. See a fiddles using drain, .5 second stun now he's a sitting duck. Enemy caitlyn ulting, shield into it and block for your teammate. Tryn jsut won't leave your malzahar alone? knock him back, kick his *** and send him packing
riven's ultimate is one of those make or break moves. In teamfights u wanna use it right at the beginning. The active ult, wind slash is a complex move. You wanna wait till your enemies are low to maximize its dmaage, but u also wanna hit as many people as u can. U really jsut have to fight and slowly weave your way to a good vantage point and ult from there.
Now when you're 1 v 1'ing someone, use it right before u land your first skill, go through your entire skill sequence and then fire it if you think it can finish the enemy, if not, save it for a bit, you have 20 seconds to cast it and the delay while firing your ultimate could elt htem get away if it doesn't finish them.
typically you want a solo lane as riven. Top treats this champ well. For farming basically focus on last hitting, however if you get pushed up to your turret, weave your q in with autoatatcks to last hit minions well before your turret can, or use the q and w to farm teh caster minions while the turret attacks the cannon or melee ones. All i can really say for farming is last hit like a beast
cooldown reduction is actually overrated
i've used many build with brutalizer, cd boots, even spirit visage, and I've come to the conclusion that cd reduction jsut isn't as neccessary as you would think. Sure she has no mana and riven's only bound by cd's, but her base cd's get so low with levels and she has so many skills to worry about using, technically 7 in all, that no matter what your cd's are, they always seem to be off cd after you've gone through the full rotation of your abilities.
so now you have all the tools to play riven. I kickass build, some great runes and masteries. Now its time I teach you about....
the art of rivening. thats right i made riven into a verb.
Riven is an amazing champ who excels and harassing quickly at close range, while not taking much damage herself. I enjoy using her shield to dash in then a q to land on the enemy champ, i autoatatck and stun, autoattack again and then either continue attacking if therer arent a ton of minions attacking me, or ill use the other two q's to flee back into the bush.
Another note is that you should be at liberty to sue rivens skills at all times. If the e and q are of cd use them to help u get to the battle faster or move around. She's a mobility based champ, abuse it. When fighting as riven, own your enemy, don't let up if you're against a mage, because once his combos done you can finish him with your incredbile sustained damage.
rivens also an interesting champ because she can actually fight off multiple enemies quite well, she has many aoe damaging abilities as well as the dash to dodge and lower dmaage to her, wear down your opponents and then finish them off with your ult
this build has potential over all the others because everyone thinks cd redduction is rivens strentgh. From many games of experience. It just isn't as neccessary as you would think. It is vastly overrated and damage, survivability and overall badassness is higher if you follow this build over one centered around cd's
the health regen is actually much higher than shown, also it says your ad is 233, it actually reaches 325, and then when u ult it reaches 390 giving you massive damage output on abilities
don't beleive me, see for yourself :)
i knwo i should have my history as only riven games, but i wanted to try out cass, so sue me ;)Your text to link here...
