Riven, The Exile

Riven is an awesome DPS champ. She is a good chaser and can take a punch depending on how you build her. All of her abilities play together really well in 1v1 fights by debilitating the opponent champ with stuns and slows while hitting very hard! or in team-fights/ganks you can single out an opponent and have the rest of the team pick up the pieces. Her only flaw is that she is too squishy like most DPS champions but if built correctly she can last enough to get in a team-fight, kill 3 squishes and come out like it was nothing!.

Updates!

9/21/2011

After some consideration and recommendations from my friends I decided to change the Masteries to 23/6/1 and removed the Dodge Chance points because it doesn't really help unless you have dodge runes and as you can see this build does not use those -.- . I added the points to Hardiness and Offense Mastery to add Magic Resist and Damage against Minion. This will help you lane better early game.

Thanks for your advice guys xD

Runes

9 x Greater Mark of Desolation
9 x Greater Seal of Resilience
9 x Greater Glyph of Shielding
3 x Greater Quintessense of Desolation

These runes work great for Riven. Armor Penetration Marks and Quints of course for your damage, Flat Armor Seals for durability against other DPS champs and Mag Resist per level Glyphs for those darn nukers! This combination of runes give you both durability and damage and sync well with the masteries and the overall build. You will be able to dish out alot of damage while being able to take a hit. This is not to say you will be a full tank so don't go HE-MAN on your team LOL.

Masteries

I take 23 points in Offense and 6 points in Defense and 1 point in Utility.

Offense: Ignore the Mag Pen point (Duh!), Focus Attack Speed, Focus Attack Damage and Cooldowns. The extra point in Exhaust is awesome because it adds Armor Reduction and Mag Resist Reduction and it has a longer duration.

Defense: 3 points in Armor, 3 Points in Mag Resist. Nuff Said.

Utility: 1 point in Ghost, faster speed increase and increased duration.

Items

Start of with a Doran's Blade. Once you are ready to go back, buy a Boots of Speed, Vampiric Scepter and start building Phage to get that slow effect going and heal from damage as well!
Once you have Phage you will be able to easily single out an opponent champ and start getting those kills.

Around mid game you should get finish Mercury Threads, buy Giant's Belt for more health and continue the Frozen Mallet build and if you have enough gold get a B.F. Sword for more damage. Damage does not only add to your ability to kill but it will also help you stay alive in battle Valor(W) since it raises with your attack as well.

By mid to end game finish building Frozen Mallet and Infinity Edge and get Chain Vest for some armor and to start Atma's Impaler. Finish Atma's Impaler and if the match is long enough, finish The Bloodthirster and if you have the money get Warmog's Armor.

You will have a lot of Health, Damage, Crit Chance, Life Steal and some Armor and Mag Res for durability.

Skill Sequence

I like to start with Broken Wings(Q) because it helps to deal a lot of damage early in the game. If you end up getting smacked while trying to face-check a brush you can easily use Broken Wings to escape back. I take a single point in all of the abilities because you will need them all to lane successfully and land those kills! Then rush Ki Burst(W) because of the damage output it can do. I take a few points in Valor(E) for durability and max it right after Ki Burst(E). Of course add a point to Blade of The Exile(R) whenever possible. Blade of the Exile can give you the Edge in every fight because of the increase in attack damage and range and the ability to use Wind Slash! for those running squishes! The ultimate last blow!.

It is very important to maximize the use of Riven's passive, Runic Blade. It gives you bonus damage on your basic attacks whenever you use an ability and stacks up to 3 times. Using more then 3 abilities and not attacking normaly will be a waste of good damage. If it means to catch someone that is running or ganking someone by spamming Broken Wings and Valor then ignore this but otherwise it's better to attack and use your pumpedness!.

Summoner Spells

Exhaust:

It's a great choice for Riven. It adds to that immobilize and kill trend that Riven has going already. It's good for 1v1, to single out a running opponent or for a gank!. It can also help you escape a sticky situation by slowing the opponent that about to slow you. Then you can (Q) the hell outta there!.

Ghost:

Same purpose as Exhaust...To help you catch that squishy and stun/slow/kill! the heck out of them or to run forest run out of a possibly successfull gank against you.

Laning

Killing Creeps:

This build is a bit expensive so in order to achieve that you need to keel a lot of creeps!
Try to land your Broken Wings(Q) effectively on as many minions as possible to maximize damage and then finish them of with Ki Burst(W) to get a bunch of them at the same time. Keep close attention to where your opponents are to prevent any stuns, slows or incoming missiles that may slowly decrease your health(Nadalie users...you know who you are!). You can easily dodge these incoming attacks with Valor(E) but you must know where the opponent is to know where to move. Smart!.

Killing Champs:

Once you have a good feel of how the opponent is playing, choose your target! Talk it over with your lane buddy to decide who is the squishiest and once that champ get close enough, activate Blade of the Exile, dash with Valor(E) then stun with Ki Burst(W), use Exhaust, then Attack twice, then do Broken Wings (Q), Attack, Broken Wings(Q), Attack, Broken Wings(Q), Attack, Finish of with Wind Slash! Be careful to follow this sequence to maximize your damage output. I usually don't execute this unless I have Exhaust.

Summary

In a nutshell...Riven is Awesome! She can take a hit if build correctly while also being able to dish out a lot of damage. Keep in mind to use her abilities wisely to maximize damage and durability. Don't try to be a TANK because she is not a full tank!

This is my first build so please be gentle... LOL

Anyways all comments and suggestions are appreciated.
