Alright everyone, so you've decided to play Shen...

Shen is my absolute favorite champ and in my opinion the best tank. If you want to play a character who has amazing tank abilites, a save, a dash(getaway, taunt), and a shield then you can pick no better champion. I'll try to explain everything I do in as much detail as possible.

I choose flat runes for my early game, using these runes allows me and my partner to dominate the lane 9 times out of 10. I very rarely have to actually pop a heal pot and when I do its generally because I dont want to resale it. I stack more armor than mr because early game I've noticed melee dps hurt more than casters so the extra mr is not needed. Furthermore, I rush merc treads for two reasons, firstly the mr because by lvl 4 or 5 casters will start to increase their damage, and secondly for the reduced cc time. Shen is a champ who needs to be mobile at all times, locking him down kills his ability to force the enemy team to focus him while your teams dps takes them down. Don't get locked down!

Standard tank masteries, not much explanation needed here. I go down utility because I enjoying having the increased hp regen and the extra gold. I also always spec ghost because that increased speed and spell length are great for him, again Don't get locked down!

so typical starting items, I go force of nature as my main tank item always, very rarely do I use any other similar item. (I don't use warmogs or leviathan because I don't need the extra hp because of the high regen you'll have late game and I don't use leviathan because I don't really like it, its not worth it when you factor in the high mr, movement speed and regen FoN gives) Force of Nature is the core item of this build and should always be acquired as soon as possible.

After FoN, I generally go Sunfire for the health and the additional AoE, this helps in Teamfights and farming minions. It may not seem like it but sunfire contributes quit a bit of damage in teamfights which is always great and provides a great source of armor. Teamfights are where Shen should really shine, spam the taunt, keep enemy dps off your squishies and you'll be sure to come out on top.

Randuin's is another item I absolutely love, the regen it provides gives shen an amazing staying ability, he can run in and out and really heckle the enemy team which is great late game as you have only died once at worst so the enemy team will be unwilling to attack you as they won't be able to kill you and assuming they do, you can dash away and set up the teamfight.

I recommend throwing randuin's as soon as the fight begins and everytime its off CD.

After randuins, its really rather situational, if they haven't surrendered yet, get whatever item will give you resists in the area you feel to be lacking or go Rylais for the health, the slow on Vorpal blade and the slight buff it'll give to your abilites

Skilling order is situational for the most part, if you find yourself tower hugging early game get at least 2 points in your shield to block all incoming damage and put everything else into taunt so as too pull the enemy into your tower. Odds are after awhile you won't be hugging any longer and if played correctly you'll still have full hp.

Always ghost and teleport, nothing else is viable.

you'll really be able to control the map using these spells and thats something every shen should be able to do.

This isn't a perfect walkthrough on how to play Shen, it is however the most successful build I've come up with and as far as I'm concerned the only way to play him.
