Introduction

Greetings, I have come up with an unique way to build Sona utilizing her passive ability, along with the NEW Malady and a few other items. Her passive is Power Cord; After casting 3 spells, Sona's next attack deals extra 24 (+12 per level or +240 at champion level 18) magic damage. The NEW Malady now does the following; Your physical attacks shred your target doing 20 magic damage and reducing their magic resistance by 6. Magic resistance reduction stacks up to 4 times. So by now you should see where I am going with this. See below for a more detailed explanation.

Key Points

Bonus Attack Damage: 150 x130% /w Trinity Force = 322 Damage
(322 Damage combined with her passive will equate to 587 Damage per hit!)
Bonus Ability Power: 238
Armor Penetration: 30
Magic Penetration: 20
Crit Chance: 14%
Default Attack Speed: 75%
Boosted Attack Speed: 100%
Movement Speed Bonus: 12%
Bonus Health: 850
Bonus Mana: 1650

Summoner Spells

Ghost provides the necessary mobility to prevent being ganked, falling behind in team battles, closing gaps when chasing enemies etc. It really is a helpful ability, and it lasts for 14 seconds.

Clarity really provides the necessary mana regen you will need to really dish out the damage, healing, and blessings early on. It also provides a nice little surprise to your enemies who may think your useless when oom. I highly recommend it due to how useful it really is. Also, it really helps anyone your laning with too.

Core Items

Item Breakdown

I have chosen the Sorcerer's Shoes as my primary form of movement due to it's additional magic penetration. Combined with the runes I have chosen you will be cutting through your enemies defenses early on, which in turn will greatly help with your harassment and farming etc. >:]
Effects: +20 Magic Penetration
Passive: UNIQUE - Enhanced Movement 2

(Gold Cost: 1100)

Now because Sona is a huge mana hog I chose to get a Manamune next, which in turn provides a huge amount of mana, and with this particular build it really improves her attack damage, thus fitting in quite well.
Effects: +350 Mana
Effects: +7 Mana Regen/5 sec
Effects: +20 Attack Damage
Passive: UNIQUE: 2% of your max Mana is converted to Attack Damage.
UNIQUE: Each time you attack, you gain one maximum mana (3 second cooldown). Each time you use an ability, you gain four maximum mana (3 second cooldown}. Bonus caps at 1000 mana.

(Gold Cost: 2110)

Immediately afterwords I get the new Malady. This little puppy is absolutely sick, it gives a huge amount of attack speed, and causes all of your attacks to do a bonus 20 magic damage. It's freaking awesome!
Effects: +50% Attack Speed
Effects: +25 Ability Power
Passive: UNIQUE: Your physical attacks shred your target doing 20 magic damage and reducing their magic resistance by 6. Magic resistance reduction stacks up to 4 times.

(Gold Cost: 1825)

This particular build really benefits from a Guinsoo's Rageblade, for it adds attack damage, ability power, and attack speed. It really is an all in one item. According to stat value calculation, this item is THE most cost efficient item in the game, when you have all 8 stacks!!
Effects: +35 Attack Damage
Effects: +45 Ability Power
Passive: On attack, increases your Attack Speed by 4% and Ability Power by 6. Lasts 5 seconds (stacks up to 8 times).

(Gold Cost: 2235)

The Rylai's Crystal Scepter is really hard to pass up. In fact most casters are encouraged to get this item. It gives a wonderful amount of health, and its passive ability to slow enemies with each spell cast is amazing. Combined with Trinity Force, all of your attacks will be slowing/controlling your enemies. It is an awesome combo!
Effects: +550 Health
Effects: +80 Ability Power
Passive: Your spell damage slows the target's movement speed by 35% for 1.5 seconds (15% for multi-target spells).

(Gold Cost: 3105)

Last, but certainly not least, the Trinity Force adds just about everything you could ever ask for. This item acts like the icing on the cake, and really fills in the gaps that your hero might be lacking in. See below for the actual stats. Again, this item causes your attacks to slow enemies movement speed!!
Effects: +20 Attack Damage
Effects: +30 Ability Power
Effects: +25% Attack Speed
Effects: +12% Critical Strike Chance
Effects: +12% Movement Speed
Effects: +300 Health
Effects: +300 Mana
Passive: UNIQUE: 25% chance on hit to slow the target by 35% for 2.5 seconds; on cast, increases your base Attack Damage by 130% for one attack.

(Gold Cost: 4070)
