Introduction

Hello! Beastly Bubby here with my first guide. It might not be fancy but I'll give you the basics on Soraka. This is how I play Soraka. You don't have to follow this guide letter by letter, but I assure you, it will help you in some way shape or form. Anyways, the first time I played Soraka, I did the same thing almost everyone else does. I underestimated her power. Soraka, if played right, can destroy people. I've done it plenty of times!

Pros / Cons

Pros - Two healing spells!
- Good aoe damage for farming and team fights
- Can restore her own mana with her e spell
- Her q can hit people even when she cant see them

Cons - Squishy
- Often focused in team fights if you're facing a smart team
- Even with her e, can be mana hungry early game if you aren't careful

Runes

For my marks I use flat magic pen. I play more aggressive with Soraka so this helps a lot with her stacking debuff on her q. For my seals I use mp5 per level. The mp5 per level seals catch up to the flat mp5 seals around lvl 6. With clarity and extensive use of my e, I'm usually fine with mana. For glyphs I use flat ap. I use flat ap because it's more of an early game advantage. Even though the ap per level glyphs catch up at lvl 6, I want that early game advantage so I can harass and hopefully make people recall early. For quints I use flat ap. Again, this is for early game advantage.

Masteries

For my masteries, I use a 9/0/21 always. For Soraka, max cdr is very important! Being able to spam your q is critical in fights. Intelligence and Sorcery give you 9% cdr and combined with Shurelya's Reverie and a Frozen heart you'll be 4% over cdr cap. We could change the masteries a bit to keep from wasting that 4% but if we dont spec into Sorcery we wont get the magic pen mastery after it, and we want that!

Items

I start off with a Regrowth Pendant and one health pot. I stay in lane until one of these reasons come up: I die, I'm forced out of lane due to heavy pressure, or until I feel like I should buy something. With Soraka's heal and mana restore spells, she can stay in lane for a very long time! The Regrowth Pendant, health pot, and clarity only help even more. When I go back I usually build a philo stone for that extra mp5. But if I have enough money, I'll buy the Sorcerer's Shoes and try to finish off what I need to build my Shurelya's Reverie. Then I head back to lane. But if for some reason you end up recalling with around 9k gold, you would want to build a Will of the Ancients, a Glacial Shroud, and a Negatron Cloak. I'm too lazy to do the math but if you still have more money, turn your Glacial Shroud into a Frozen Heart, and make that Negatron Cloak an Abyssal Scepter. The AP and aoe debuff go well with your q's debuff. And if you're incredible at farming or just hack well, buy a Rabadon's Deathcap. This build will give you a decent amount of damage and a decent amount of defense. There are those times where you'll be facing a team that doesn't know what focusing means. That's when you'll have to build more offensively. Since CDR is vital for Soraka, keep your Shurelya's Reverie and Frozen Heart. You could take out your Will of the Ancients and put another Rabadon's Deathcap or a Rylai's Crystal Scepter to make destroying your enemy team much easier with the passive and your q.

Skill Sequence

Starcall - A shower of stars falls from the sky, striking all nearby enemies for magic damage and reducing their magic resistance temporarily.
Strikes nearby enemy units for 60/90/120/150/180 (+0.25) magic damage and reduces their Magic Resistance by 8 for 8 seconds. This effect stacks up to 20 times.
Cost 40/50/60/70/80 Mana
Range 630

This spell is awesome. The more you hit with this, the harder someone is going to be hit by ap fueled attacks. Great for early game kills. I've even gotten first bloods with it. And it's easy to get multi kills with this spell too.

Astral Blessing - Soraka blesses a friendly unit, restoring health and increasing armor for a short time. Restores 60/120/180/240/300 (+0.9) health and grants 20/35/50/65/80 bonus armor for 4 seconds.
Cost 90/110/130/150/170 Mana
Range 650

Her heal is great. A good amount of health and it grants some bonus armor. Good for putting on someone that is tanking a turret or your team fights.

Infuse - If cast on an allied champion, restores mana to the target and to Soraka. If cast on an enemy champion, silences them for a few seconds and deals damage.
On Ally Cast: Restores 25/50/75/100/125 mana to the target, and an equal amount to self. (Double gain on self cast.)

On Enemy Cast: Silences the target for 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 second(s) and deals 50/100/150/200/250 (+0.6) magic damage.
Cost No Cost
Range 725

Infuse is great for staying in lane. A short cd when you have max cdr and it does a lot of damage in mid/late game. Also, you can restore mana to your team mates. I like to lane with someone that uses mana to get the full use out of this spell.

Wish - Soraka fills her allies with hope, instantly restoring health to herself and all friendly champions. Instantly restores 200/320/440 (+1.3) health to herself and all allied champions.
Cost 200/275/350 Mana
Range 25000

This ultimate has to be one of my favorites. It's great for when Karthus is about to ult, or Fiddle just ulted in, or Xin ultid and brought everyone to half hp, and the list goes on. It's good for everything. What I like to do is when it's off CD, I check the other lanes to see if my team mates need are getting low. If you're using some sort of team speak program like skype, vent or teamspeak, have your team mates call out of they need a heal. This ultimate will hit ALL of your team mates on the map. No matter if you're at your nexus and they're at the enemy's nexus.

Consecration - Increases surrounding allies' magic resistance by 16

A nice passive. More mr for those darned ap users. Who knows, it might save you from Karthus' ult!

Basically, the priority of my spell leveling is R > Q > E > W. Your ultimate ALWAYS COMES FIRST!!! I can't tell you how many times I've helped my team mates win little skirmishes with Soraka's ultimate. Plus, you get assists and more money! Next on the list is Starcall. Like I said, I play more aggressive with Soraka. If you aren't comfortable with this I recommend a priority sequence like this: R > W > E > R. With that sequence you can do some awesome early/mid game support. After Starcall, I get infuse. Infuse is a nifty little spell. It can be used to restore mana to your lane partner/team mate. It gives you the same amount of mana your partner received. The LoL site says it gives you double that mana if you use it on yourself but it doesn't seem any different when I use it on myself. We'll take the LoL site's word on it. After Infuse, Soraka's heal is last on the last. Last, but definitely not least. I don't feel like I'm giving her w enough justice by making it last on my list. Again, I'm more aggressive and I don't feel the need to pick her w up more during early/mid game because killing faster early game is where its at. And you have your ulti to save you if things get a little hairy.

Summoner Spells

For summoner spells, I chose flash and clarity. Flash is one of the best escape tools ever. It's saved me more than a couple of times and I use it one most of my characters. Clarity is great for those moments when you're one spell away from living and dying but you're out of mana. Clarity has also saved my life.

Farming

Farming on Soraka is fairly easy. Practice getting last hits with your q or e since your e doesn't cost mana. Once you get your Will of the Ancients, you should be able to 2-3 shot minion waves, of course if there isn't a cannon minion in there. If you're laning with someone, for example a carry like Vayne, try not to take all of her last hits. It's too easy with your q.

Team Work

Soraka is very useful in team fights. The ability to do decent damage AND heal people is great. I recommend that you DO NOT initiate team fights. Trust me. Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad idea. You're probably going to be focused anyways and you don't want everyone to shoot their ult into first. That's what your tanks are for. While you're in the team fight, try to hit all of your enemies with your q for maximum effect. Hit the squishies with your e or give one of your mana ***** allies some mana if clarity is down. Keep an eye out for people dropping below 60% hp. Those are the people you're going to want to hit with your w. And if there's some aoe hitting your whole team, use your ult when people get below 50%.
