Hey there,

I like both scaling and flat health seals, but I put flat health on the page since it's more generally liked by most people.

Generally, my rule is:
-Don't need health early game? (i.e. versus Janna, Soraka, etc.) Scaling health.
-Need sustain? (i.e. versus Sona or Caitlyn) Health regen.
-Need to be tanky early? (i.e. versus Leona, Thresh, Blitzcrank to survive all-ins) Flat health.
-Wanna be aggressive? (versus anyone) Movement speed, flat health, and/or AD or attack speed.

I totally neglect a lot of strategy when playing all together but I see that you talked about Trample (passive) added use "when peeling someone away with your abilities". I'm probably being a total doofus but is this suggesting that while you "walk through minions" you can still use your size/body as a Pillar of Ice to block enemy champions (units)? Would this play more into initiating/engaging in lane? My interpretation of this is that you can Trample through creep waves and still cause the enemy some frustration by forcing them to have to walk around you say if they get trapped behind a creep wave - giving you more space on your half to apply pressure?

I'm a total scrub and this is the second guide I've focused on trying to understand in-depth.

RE: " Alistar also gains the ability to pass through units for the 3 second duration. Approaching units will still attempt to walk around you, which is awesome because if you are peeling someone away with your abilities, they still have to walk around you (great with Elixir of Iron)." However, you really shouldn't be trying to use this passive as an escape tool to walk through minions if you are being chased, because most of his abilities take up a significant amount of time to cast. I find this part of Trample only good when I Headbutt an enemy to harass and then quickly sinking behind the minion wave to farm or disengage so they can't retaliate without going around the wave."

What you're saying is correct.

Yes, you can bodyblock people even when Trample is on. An example for this situation would be, you WQ someone running at your ADC. If you position yourself between your ADC and the enemy, the enemy has to run around you, though you're free to move wherever you want. It will only make like a .1 or .2 second difference but that could be the difference between the ADC surviving or not.

Yes, you can harass someone and sink behind the minion wave. I like doing this when I'm top lane. WQ- Tiamat-autoattack, then walk backwards into your minion wave so they can't trade back. Works great with Stormraider's Surge !

Another great example is, say your opponent starts taking creep aggro from a huge wave (and possibly tower aggro). You could Q- Flash them and then Headbutt them backwards behind the giant creep wave. Then they'll be stuck there and forced to walk around, taking tons of damage from minions (and possibly tower). However, you have the freedom of walking through your minion wave to finish them off with autoattacks and Trample DoT.

Love the guide. tho you did make one tiny mistake. on your dps/cdr you said it gives you 40%/45% with mastery but your wrong. that build only gives 30%/35% with mastery. just pointing that out. but over all i love the guide. im gonna be applying it right now. unless you was thinking boots of lucidity was there. instead of sorcery boots...

Are you talking about for AP Mid? My intended build for 45% CDR was Frost Queen's Claim, Morellonomicon, and Lich Bane, which should give 40% CDR in total. You can swap some things around too if you want. I've found pretty good success with 10% CDR at level 18 glyphs and skipping FQC.

Personally I'm not a big fan of CDR boots on AP Mid Alistar just cause his ratios aren't the best. Bad ratios scale better with penetration.

Question! Why do you take Windspeaker's Blessing on this guy, any thoughts on his sinergy with Bond? Which one of these two is better with Ali? Did the nerfs on his heal in this patch change anything?

Hey there, so I think Windspeaker's Blessing is better on Alistar for a couple of reasons. Triumphant Roar is AoE, meaning you buff your entire team with armor and MR, versus Bond of Stone only buffs one other person. Your heal is also super spammable, especially with 45% CDR. The only other champ out there with a spammable AoE heal/shield is Sona, and maybe Nami. Everyone else is either single target heal/shield (Taric, Janna, Soraka, Thresh), or it's an ultimate (Soraka and Janna). I guess items like Locket, FotM, Mikael's sorta count but eh, point is, you can buff everyone, constantly.

But it's really all personal preference. Bond of Stone is good cause Windspeaker's doesn't boost Alistar's own damage reduction; it only helps him heal himself and others. It's also pure damage reduction, so they can't counter with armor/magic penetration. Bond of Stone also makes early tower dives safer and makes you significantly tankier, so it's better for going all-in (or defending from an all in, especially in lane with your ADC). I'd grab it if you want to be aggressive in lane, or just outright tankier.

So tl;dr WB helps your entire team out, BoS helps yourself out (plus one more I guess). 5>2.

As for the heal nerfs, to be honest, it was seriously due. You've got Runic Armor + Windspeaker's Blessing , making your heals from both Relic Shield and Triumphant Roar much more significant. It was pretty broken for a while. The mana cost increase just brings the mana efficiency back to normal, along with the CD increase helping out, though you shouldn't be spamming heal too often in lane anyways.
