Introduction

Talon is a burst AD assassin. He can be built several different ways, I personally prefer a somewhat tanky build with him. Normally end games with 3000-4000 health depending on the situation.

Runes

Getting armor penetration from quintessences and marks makes it so you're doing 100% damage to all non tank characters. It will most likely double the amount of damage you would normally do to tanks.

The flat armor seals are for early game harassing. Being able to attack the enemy champions without having to worry about the incoming damage from minions is a must in my eyes.

The CDR/lvl glyphs are to make his burst damage seem more consistent. At the end of the game, his ultimate goes down to a 24 second cooldown with 40% CDR.

Masteries

I go with a standard 21-0-9 masteries. I get the crit and exhaust mostly because AP is 100% useless on him and smite is just short of 100% useless.

Cooldown reduction, attack speed, armor penetration are all for harassing champions or getting minion farm easier. The increased damage to minions further increases the farming ability.

Then I get the boost to attack damage because three out of four of Talon's abilities adjust to his attack damage.

I go for the utility tree instead of defense because I already have the armor from my seals and the extra xp from the utility tree is a must for most of my characters anyways.

If you do decide to go defense tree, i suggest taking the MR instead of the armor, because this build doesn't use as much MR as it does armor.

Items

I start off with boots of speed and some potions, this allows me to harass much more in lane than a doran's blade would.

Normally by my first time back i have enough for the Brutalizer and the Ionian Boots

Next time back I usually have time for avarice blade and phage, I don't combine the ghostblade at this point because I don't normally require the armor penetration yet and the gp2 from avarice blade comes in handy.

Getting Frozen Mallet next is a must, the slow from FM works constantly with Talon's passive. The bonus health keeps you in fights longer, and the slight attack damage boost never hurts.

Afterwards I get Bloodthirster, this allows for a significant boost in my damage output, and also gives me that 25% lifesteal.

After this I finish my ghostblade and get atma's impaler. Atma's impaler is a must have if you're building 3k+ HP on any AD character. It gives more armor, and about 60-80 more damage.

The last item I get is completely relative to the situation. If AP is killing you, get a banshee's, if its a combination of AP and AD get warmog's. If you're not really dying, get some extra AD suggested black cleaver.

After all of this, get all of the elixirs, Fortitude for AD and HP, Brilliance for CDR, Agility for AS and Crit chance.

Skill Sequence

Rake: Amazing early game laning ability, good for both harassing and anti harassing, good for farming or chasing. Must max this first.

Noxian Diplomacy: I personally get this first because it adjusts with Talon's AD. Depending on your play style you may want to max Cutthroat first.

Cutthroat: The reason I max this last is because I normally don't have issues with keeping up with players, and the increased damage seems lesser than the improved damage in Noxian Diplomacy. If you're paired against a lot of casters, you may wish to upgrade this before Noxian Diplomacy.

Shadow Assault: As with most characters, always upgrade their ultimate whenever you can. This is both an amazing escape and an excellent chase ability. Does some pretty mean damage if you follow this build. Especially at a twenty four second cooldown.

Summoner Spells

I personally get exhaust because there are only a few characters that can consistently take me out as Talon, characters such as Tryn or Morde, who are extremely vulnerable to exhaust.

I get ghost for those moments when you either need to close a gap or to escape immediately. Flash would also work in these situations, but it is really just my preference on Talon to take ghost.

I strongly recommend against summoner spells such as Smite, Rally, Heal, Clarity or Revive.

But really these are all just personal preferences.

Summary

Talon is considered a burst DPS because most of his damage comes from his abilities. I personally consider him solely as a DPS because I get CDR which causes his abilities to be on a really short cooldown. He can easily take control of 1v1 lanes, 2v1 lanes, or 2v2 lanes. He is not normally accepted to go mid. In my eyes though, he can easily take care of most mid chars, such as Vladimir or Brand.

He has good abilities to be able to farm with, Rake can easily take out a whole minion wave once level 5.

Ranked Play

Unfortunately I don't see a frequent position for him on a ranked team. A basic meta for ranked games is one Jungler (Normally AD) one AD carry (ranged AD) one Tank (Requires some disruptions) one AP Carry (Prefered to have some disrupts) and one support character.

This is just an extremely generalized criteria though. The jungler doesn't have to be AD, you don't NEED a jungler in fact, nor do you need a support. The only times I would suggest Talon in ranked play is one: You already have a designated jungler and he/she is going to tank (such as amumu or jarvan) or AP (such as nunu or fiddlesticks). Or two: your whole team decides it not nessecary to have a ranged AD character on your team. Both of these cases makes it an excellent time to pick a second melee AD character.
