Taric, The Aura Knight
Taric is one of the best supporters ingame, you can carry your team with auras, heals and stuns.
+Auras help all your teammates
+Can keep long Pushes going
-No Kills (no con for me)
-Has to die for his team sometimes
GemcraftTaric loves to socket magical gems into all of his weapons, resulting in his melee attacks repleneshing his mana for 7.5% of damage dealt.
Synergizes well with Imbue.
ImbueTaric brings forth earthen energy to heal a nearby ally and himself for 100/145/190/235/280 (+0.9 per ability power). If Taric heals only himself, the heal will be 40% more effective. Melee attacks on enemies decrease this spell's cooldown by 2 seconds per hit.
Use it to keep you and your allies alive. Remember the Cooldown-Reduction if you melee attack and Gemcraft.
ShatterPassive: Provides 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 bonus armor to himself and nearby allies.
Active: Taric deals 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 (+0.5 per ability power) magic damage to nearby enemies and decreases their armor by 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 for 4 seconds. The passive is not in effect during the cooldown.
The passive is a nice armor aura.
Use the active to secure a kill or to farm minions.
DazzleTaric fires a sphere of prismatic light at an enemy, dealing 0 - 80 / 160 / 240 / 320 / 400 (+1 per ability power) magic damage (lower damage the further the target is), and stunning them for 1 - 2 seconds (higher stun the further the target is).
Use it in teamfights to to guarantee kills, to keep opponents from running away and to save allies.
RadianceToggle: Taric emits brilliant light, healing himself for 30/40/50 (+0.2 per ability power) a second and increasing his and nearby allies attack damage by 30/60/90 (half effect for nearby allies). The cost to sustain Radiance increases by 4/7/10 each second.
Activate this aura in teamfights and towerpushes. But don't overdo it. You will quickly run out of Mana.
10 Initial Mana Cost
Exhaust - Makes you able to shutdown physical damagedealer or to flee.
Ghost - Makes you able to catch somone with Dazzle or to flee.
Masteries & Runes
We'll use a typical caster build: 9 Points in the Offense tree to get the Magic Penetration and 21 Points in Utility tree to get Mana Regen, Movement Speed, Cooldown Reduction...
Greater Mark of Attack Speed - Attackspeed (Passive + Imbue Cooldown abuse)
Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration - Mana Regen per Lvl
Greater Glyph of Scaling Mana Regeneration - Mana Regen per Lvl
Greater Quintessence of Health - Health
Marks and Quintessences are personal preference. But you definitely have to get those Seals and Glyphs. You need the Mana Regen. You may say 3690IP are too much, but you could also get Lvl 1 Runes for 270 IP to try them out. However their stats are only 50% worse than Lvl 3 ones.
Start off with buying a Mana Manipulator 'cause it fixes your and your lanemate' mana issues.
At your first return to base, you should purchase at least Boots of Speed and work your way towards Aegis of the Legion, starting with the components you feel you need the most.
Build your Boots of Speed into Mercury's Treads next.
Purchase Guinsoo's Rageblade next.
All following items are situational, so go ahead and check what the match looks like.
Aura, Mana Regen for you and your team. Really useful in the laning phase.
They reduce the time of CC and DoTs. The Magic Resistance is a nice bonus.
Aegis of the Legion
Aura, one of the best items ingame. It buffs all important stats such as Health, Armor and Magic Resistance.
This item is nice for Taric. Allows you to push, heal and actually dish out some damage.
Aura, Mana Regen and CDR for you and your team. Really useful in almost every game.
Health, Armor, HP/5 and CDR, what's there not to like. Use it when fighting against physical damage opponents.
Health, Magic Resist and the spell blocking bubble. You can do a lot of things knowing you have that bubble up.
Use it when against CC and/or magical damage heavy opponents.
Aura, Health Regen, Attackspeed, Lifesteal and Armor Reduction for your team. Makes your pushes easier and more effective. Use it when you need more pushing power.
Aura, Magic Restistance Reduction for your team. It will give you Magic Resistance and Ability Power as a bonus. Use it with when fighting with a magic damage heavy team or against magic damage heavy opponents.
Start buying Sight Ward if you want to win your games. They're pretty damn cheap and help you turn the course of games. Start to ward dragon/baron by the 15/25 minute mark. I can't tell you how many games I have won "lost" games by ganking the other team doing baron, scoring an ace and getting the baron buff.
General Gameplay Tips
- Soak up damage for your team - but you aren't the main tank
- Heal your teammates
- Stay with your team - DO NOT make your auras useless
- Push in the right situations
- Learn to adapt your entire playstyle - DO NOT stick to a single build
- Be aware of the map - let the minimap and sight wards help you
Your main goal should be to protect and support your ally. You might get some kills but don't die for a kill. Remember to autoattack to reduce the Cooldown of Imbue. You should adapt your skillorder if necessary.
Use Gemcraft and Imbue to keep you and your ally in your lane.
Use Shatter to farm or to secure a kill (better an assist though).
Use Dazzle to harass opponents with your ally or to go in for the killing (=assisting) blow.
Use Radiance to destroy their turret or to turn the course of fights.
After Laning Phase
You are the supporter. You have to support your team as much as possible and lead your team to victory. In order to do so you have to heal your team, stun targets, stay alive (keep the auras up) etc.
Use Imbue to keep your team alive.
Use Shatter to secure a kill (better an assist though).
Use Dazzle to go in for the killing (=assisting) blow or to shutdown dangerous opponents.
Use Radiance to destroy turrets or in teamfights.
