This is a build for mordenkaiser. I usually end up with a kill/death ratio of 2/1 and more.
I usually take the skills in this order:
Because your third skill will be your main shield builder. As it build additional shield per target affected, it is imperative to get it as high as possible, as quickly as possible. Your first skill is what will be used to kill other players, so with a skill level of 2, it gives you a decent damage bonus, while leaving you the time to build up your third skill. Creeping death, the second skill, is totally useless. When maxed out, it gives +30 armor for 6 seconds, while damaging surrounding enemies for a small amount of damage. Nevertheless, I usually use it on my teammates who are being attacked, since a little armor bonus is better than no armor at all.
I usually go 0/21/9 or something similar, so I get the 4% damage reduction from the defensive tree. I am not sure, but my guess would be that every damage received by your shield is still mitigated by all your armor. So let's say you receive a 100 damage physical blow; you absorb about 50% physical damage with all armor up, so it's 50, then you get your 4% off, so you get hit for 48. Not bad at all. I also choose to boost my ghost walk ability, because it fits perfectly with the frozen mallet build, and I find it to be much better than flash.
I am still debating which runes to take. I find that keeping my shield up is a good challenge, so I would go with:
- some magic penetration, (so your third skill hits for more)
- magic armor runes, because even physical damage characters have a part of their skills based on AP, so it always helps.
- Health runes, or AP runes that scales with your level, so your abilities will scale much better late game.
I've been playing with an AP Jax build until now, and the dodge AP runes have been playing a good part of my success.
I posted my usual item order. The warmog is NOT mandatory, but I like it with spirit visage. After that, I go with the flow. If my friends need support, I'd go with an aegis and a stark's fervor. If we need damage, I start building a bloodthirster and a phantom dancer. All of those items benefit Mr. Tin can here. If not, you can go pure defense, and build a force of nature, a thornmail, or what ever else you need. But the mallet is IMPERATIVE. You have no escape mechanism, no stuns, no nothing. With the mallet and ghost walk, you'll be able to chase pretty well, or run away depending on the situation. In team fights, ignite and your ultimate skill are priceless. Stack both of them on a target and watch it die a painful death.
I know the basic part of the build rarely change, but what will make you dangerous is your ability to adapt to any situation. Don't panic, focus on building and maitain it. You'll have to hit someone to build i anyways, so no need to run around like a chicken.
