Hi.... i am here to explain to people about tanks ...

Before you start read. Be CAREFUL! A tank is one of the most difficult role in LoL! This article will show you some tricks and types of tanks that you can use.

After a lot of fun with tanks, this is my contribution with them.

So.... do you plan to play as tank? Welcome to the teamplay world!

You will NEVER see pentakill on your score, you Will NEVER become the most damage dealer on the match, you will die a lot of times to save your carry and you will take A HUGE amount of damage!

Yes... this ... is... a... TANK! =D

So, why are you choosing a tank? My personal answer is: every team needs a tank to be successful and (almost) nobody wants to fill this difficult role.

Is it possible to be a tank and carry the game? NO! It was possible if you got an OP Mordekaiser or an OP Garen with tons of sunfire stacks. However, it is not possible anymore. And believe me, this is not a way to play as a tank, if you like to kill, try AP or AD carries, the tank role should not be your role.

There are too many different types of tanks in LoL, and I will tell you a little bit about them. This is my personal characterization of tankers, feel free to not agree with it. I think it works very well, at least, for me.

3. Main Tanks

They are a MUST have in a team, if you don�¢ï¿½ï¿½t have a good main tank, you will lose a game in 90% of the cases. They are very equilibrate and almost every tank item can be used by them without any problem. I think that the main tanks (at least for me!) are: Rammus, Shen, Amumu, Cho�¢ï¿½ï¿½Gath and Galio. To be a main tank, the champion should have at least a good skill to initiate a fight, protect the teammates, at least one type of CC (stun, airbone, taunt, slow) and should not be AD or AP dependent. They are tanks right? Yes�¢ï¿½�¦ so, their items should be banshee veil, sunfire cape, thornmail, force of nature, raduins, warmog, guardian angel, leviathan, aegis of the legion, etc. All teams needs one of them. However, those tanks are really really team dependant. You will never see a Rammus killing everyone, BUT, he will get more than 15 assists in a long game, because EVERY time he was there to save the teammates.

Tankers as solo laners: it is very difficult for main tanks, they can do it ONLY if they hug the turret. If you are a solo tank, don�¢ï¿½ï¿½t worry, you can solo (if you are lucky, you can kill enemis too) lanes. If you are support tanker, NEVER get a solo lane. You need farm and take a solo lane you will be easily outfarmed. There are some exceptions for the support tanks rule: Nasus and Vladmir can do a great job alone. And remember, the best way for a solo lane is "let it to the carry". If you are good enough to carry a team, OK! This is just a guide to people that want starts on this role. I will never recommend a starter Nunu player to be alone.

Tankers as junglers: The tankers that I know that can jungle very well are Shen, Amumu (not sooo well but they can do as well), Rammus and Nunu. Is there other tanks that can do jungle? I don�¢ï¿½ï¿½t recommend tanks for jungle BUT, if your team needs a jungler, you can do it without any problem.

Always remember, a good team NEEDS a main tank, an AP carry, an AD Carry, a support and a jungler. Don�¢ï¿½ï¿½t worry if you are a support tank, like nunu, and your team has already a support champ, in this case, your role in early game is jungle, you will let someone to have a level advantage

OK, are you a main tank? Good�¢ï¿½�¦ now you need to choose carefully your items because you will COUNTER the enemies. There is no core build for a main tank. A main tank need the best item for every different game. For example, I LOVE sunfire cape, and if ask me, how often do you rush this item? It is very rare! Because I need to counter the enemies and there are a lot of items that are more important than sunfire when you are a main tank.

AP nukers, low CC on the enemies (e.g. annie, akali, vladmir, kassadin, karthus): force of nature, hexdrinker and guardian angel. It will keep your HP and will give you MR.

High CC on the enemies (e.g. ryze, morgana, pantheon, jax, eve, sion, etc): Banshee Veil and Mercury Threads. It will keep you without CC.

High auto attack damage (e.g. kog�¢ï¿½ï¿½maw, tryndamere, twitch, tristana, fortune, etc): thornmail, sunfire and frozen heart. It will rape them more than sunfire.

Lots of squishy teammates (e.g. TF, Ryze, Annie, Corki, Ashe, Tristana, Tryndamere, etc): Aegis of the legion!

Vs. Madred Bloodrazor? Stack MR and it will solve some of your problems.

A heal guy on your team: spirit visage. It will reduce your cooldown and will boost the effectiveness in heal that you will receive.

Do you need more HP?: warmog (Remember, rush a defensive item BEFORE this item)

For a better CD and chance do slow: Raduins Omen. (Yeah, lets spam the ultimate!)

Are you outfarmed or buying lots of wards? Go for heart of gold as the first item. (I always rush this as my first item!)

Are you outleveled and outfarmed and you can�¢ï¿½ï¿½t play as a tank because you are too weak? Stack doran shield. Remember this is the LAST thing that you should do. Stack doran shield is very different than stack doran blade or doran ring.

Be wise with EVERY item that you will start. ALWAYS keep the survivability rather than damage. It means, not sunfire just for an easy farm!
