Introduction

Hey, there
as you are here to read this build guide, you chose to play Varus.
Nice choice.
Before I start, please remember:
English is not my mother tongue, so there will be some (or a lot of) mistakes in this guide.
Feel free to Grammar Nazi me, constructive feedback is welcome.

Now, let's start.

Runes

I guess I don't have to tell you, why to take these.

Greater Seal of Vitality
Like most of the carries, he hasn't got much health.

Greater Glyph of Knowledge
You will need these to encounter his constantly lack of mana.

Greater Quintessence of Desolation
Armor penetration makes him even more powerful.

Enough said, I think there shouldn't be any questions about this.

Masteries

There is not much to say either, just take everything that builds in AD and Health.

Items

Now it's getting intersting.

Start:

This is a great item to start, it gives you AD and health, which allows you to farm longer.

You may also start with this and two pots, but you will go down quickly if you are not 100% aware of avoiding mistakes. I prefer Doran's Blade.

Early game:

Everyone is going to purchase this early and so are you.

If you haven't started with this one, you should buy it now.
Later this item will be upgraded to .

This is one of your core items. It gives you movement speed and 15% cooldown reduction.
Why not Berserker's Greaves? Because you are no auto attack champion.

This item is good in early and mid game. It gives you AD, armor penetration and
cooldown reduction. You won't need this anymore later, so you should sell it then.
But until you get Nashor's, you should keep it.

Mid game:

This item is needed for Bilgewater.

Bilgewater
This item is awesome. The recipe price is only 400, for this little money you get
5% life steal, 10 attack damage and a really nice active. Now you may wonder why to get this with a carry. As you might have seen, Varus is really slow and has not much health.
Until you get your The, you will need the life steal it gives you.
Getting out of a gank is nearly impossible with this guy, so you can use the active to slow down an enemy. You can upgrade this later to Hextech or just sell it.
