I played Veigar a lot of time, and I almost never failed him at mid.


It´s simple, at start of the game just farm your q spell and play defensive.

Normally you don´t need ganks in early game.
If you have low life, you can port back and use "Teleport" to be back in seconds.
Play defensive, farm the rear minions with your W spell and last hit so often you can with your Q spell.

When you have Deathfire Grasps and lvl 6, you can start to play aggressive at the mid lane
Try to stun your enemy, and if it worked, spell first Deathfire Grasps, and then W, R, Q.
You must be fast, to aim him with all skills, but if it worked, AP Champs like Brand are normally dead.

You can also wait for your junngler, but its important to hit your enemy with the stun, cause normally they flash out of your range and douge the W skill.

In late game, you can normally 2 hit AP Champs like Brand or Ahri with Deathfire Graps and your Ulti, you must try to stun the AD Carrys in teamfights and you must nuke down one AP Champ.

IMPORTANT, never run in the middle of teamfights, you have a good range with veigar - use it ;)

Pros
+Good Magic dmg
+Stun every 8 seconds in late game (for Teamfights)
+Nice Nuke against AP Champs (your Ulti and Deathfire Graps)
+You can farm your AP through your Q spell
+Easy Combo against AP Champs

Cons
-Extremly squishy (Low Magic Resist, Armor and HP
-Must play defensively in early game
-Very mana dependent in early game
-Useless while skills are on cool-down like every AP Champ
-A lot of Magic resist and Banshee´s counters the burst dmg (normally no problem, cause you have an ad carry in team)
-Merkury Shoes counter your skill combo (First Stun then all skills)
-Silence is a big problem for Veigar
