Welcome to my guide..
In DotA, you had to choose between early, late and balanced. I always picked late even if my character wasn't build this way.
I'm pretty sure most of you know that Volibear is a great late Character for tanking. I'm thinking of him more of a mid-way carry. I've carried a game with voli plenty of times.
It's of great importance to get a good headstart.
Also, I'm not sure if this is suited to Ranked play. I haven't got there yet (as a new LoL player).
When I get there and try this, I'll let you know.
Voli is so freaking adaptable that he can play either top, jungle or bot.
It's commmon sense he shouldn't go against an AP in mid.
I prefer to tag along with a team-mate with stun or slow. This turns Voli to an extremely efficient early character.
But as I'm used to say, either you go all the way or you don't go at all.
,Greater mark of desolation, and Greater Quintessence of Desolation along with his "Frenzy" can make a fight 1v1 easily won.
However, you are encouraged to use an "armored" rune build along with attack speed.
As I see it, those six items go like this:
: Aggresive
Zeke's Herald: Passively defensive
: Heavily defensive
: Passively aggresive
: Heavily aggresive
: Balanced
In the beginning, Voli has a great advantage with his running and slow. That makes him a really nice ganger (and a really good team-member to have abide you in the lane). Use this to make some quick kills-assists so you can earn your boots as fast as possible.
If, however, you find yourself having a bad early game, don't go for zeke's before warmog.
Don't forget to use potions when you finish your build. Especially agility and fortitude can give you the edge you need to own the last teamfight.
You see how I prefer instant damage with Roar rather than the neutral rolling thunder.
It turns out that it helps me get more kills and get my build finished asap.
If you're doing extremelly well (talking about 3-4 kills in the first 5-10 minutes), start teching your frenzy instead.
I will write about choosing instead of . If you see me playing voli, most of the time you'll catch me using and . I do this because I see my beginning in the game CRUCIAL. Even If I die, I'll have to be immediately back. Farm, try to kill, gang etc. Also, it rocks when you are about to gang. (Especially if a teamate has a ward closer to the opponent in the bushes).
It's your own choice. Logic says , I say . Pick what you see fit.
My two cents on this subject refer to the usage of Voli's ulti. Most people consantly save his ulti only for teamfights (in best occasions to get the blue aura).
In my opinion this is absoulutely wrong. I see myself using my ulti more often on a bunch of creeps (that have been pushing a lane and are more than 10) than in teamfights.
Of course, I don't mean that you get to spend your ulti without thought.
You should always try and have it available for teamfights as it's the one to get you the kills.
I'm just saying you shouldn't be tightfisted.
If you want to go as [Volibear] in such situation, you must really build him as a Tank or even better, don't pick him.
is meant to be played as a bear should. In a classy-attacking way of play.
