Quoted:

XIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN OFFTANK

yh but it was easier to build more damage and less tank before the rework. <== thats just my opinion

it still works and omg no xin is not a off tank this is hands down the best build for him as you pretty much can destroy anyone even tanks..................... so no

ok we get the point. can you stop going round all the offtank builds and downvoting them cos you think this one is better. i personally think that this build isnt great because: 1) xin shouldent be the AD carry of a team (ranged carries are far better). 2) there isnt any defence so like Gasparde said in his build - any hard cc and youre dead (well, very likely). like i said, i dont like this build, i can see it would work, but its not great. but im not downvoting it cos it WORKS. like offtank. :)

EDIT: also offtank works better with the rework imo

BEST. XIN ZHAO. BUILD. EVER. It might be expired and all, but I still use it. And believe me, even though the new atualizations nerfed Xin a lot, he still STOMPS everybody. Many people prefer Jungling builds, but in my opinion, Asian Devastation is, BY FAR, the best. I've pwned MANY people with this build. Major issue: you need a hell of a lot of farming early game or you're not going to do anything. Thank you, HiaCliff. Thank you.

Nice build!

Also, I agree with sangtech that a little more tank could be good, but at the same time, if you are fed, you don't need tanky stuff, cuz you'll be doing more damage than they can count at once.

Check out my Jax guide

Jax: the Grandmaster of Farm

Once again, good job

[-]
sangtech | May 12, 2012 12:42am
WTF! I like your build for bots game, but still mine is better for bots game and more fun. Your build is so bad, especially when you are not fed. In 5's your build is ****ty, even your runes. I would go a little tanky which still do a lot of damage and tanky.

I'd like to chime in on two places. 1. your build kicks butt, my first game I had 21 kills and 2 deaths, my last 4 games have been 10-1, 24-0, 8-0, and 34-5. 2. in regards to optional items, randiun's omen works very well, it was actually the 34-5 game I had, this basically allowed me to jump in on team fights and take out my target and then if someone else locked on to me, i just had to hit him once or twice for the slow down and i could move away and refresh, I would say that is the best defensive armor based on this build, also late in the game, you might consider a second phantom dancer and sell your beserker greaves, i still kept enough speed and was able to pack even more of a punch, great guide

This build is amazing. The only things I change is sometimes replacing the Trinity Force with a 2nd Phantom Dancer (just to be OP) or building the items in a different order. Other than that though, I've played 20+ games using this build with Xin and I consistently destroy with it. Even if I lose, I still manage to keep a positive K/D. Anyone who has ever said that Xin Zhao sucks has never fought me with this build.
Thanks for making this guide! Well deserving of the upvote.

This guide's position as the highest ranked one causes the noobs to emerge out of their disguises or perhaps it creates new "Überfeeders": There is no single game in which my friends or I have a teammate who builds as a copy from your Cheatsheet, suicides often (that's what Xins tend to do, often they are not over 7 years old...) and the game is obviously lost (entirely by Xin!). As I tend to say- if you build him like an Ashe, he shouldn't go on a rampage of ******ation like he wouldn't with Ashe.

I assume that thanks to your experience, you obviously know that building him with a ****load of damage isn't too successful when over Summoner Level 15, and that you know how to add tanky items to your item order. But your readers can't, as they only read the Cheatsheet! (they play Xin...)

If I may recommend something, it would be EMPHASIZING the importance of tankiness on Xin, rather than thrusting it into the remote regions of Situational Items.

You guys might wanna consider using a manmune, in my eyes, a item that can't be missed if you are a mana-hungry, high DPS and especially when you can spam your skills and/or have a high AS. This item ads a lot of damage and mana, espacially late-game. Also it's a pretty cheap item, so you can buy it early-game. This item makes sure that you'll never get OOM

Solid build. My current favourite although I start with dorans blade.
I often buy a Youmuu's ghostblade after phantom dancer (replacing trinity force) for some cooldown reduction, some bonus AD and its great active effect.
What do you think of this?

I JUST WANT TO ASK, WHY NOBODY BUILDS ZEKE'S HERALD ON XIN. IT GIVES HP FOR SURVIVABILITY, LIFESTEAL AND ATTACK SPEED, SO WHY ??

Because it's considered a support item. It's also got cooldowns which isn't so important. The old item would have been much more suitable Stark's Fervour
1
[-]
Bozbacca | April 2, 2012 2:14pm
Your cheat sheet makes it look like you're priotising AD over being a tanky *** pain in the ***. However, i commend the inclusion of a defensive item section, that's cool BUT you don't make it clear you need to focus defensive items. IMO tankyness is not an option on Xin but a must...

Excellent build. As posted above, I also get Thornmail; although I tend to get it early if I'm matched up against AD. By the time you spend 1000 you can take their hits with ease and unload on them. Towards end game, you're practically unstoppable if you make the right Def Item adjustments. And ALWAYS get the buffs.

I figured this build out in a game and I've been fairly disappointed. I was facing a GP top and honestly, I had no sustain, since I followed the exact same runes you suggested. He could of easily poke me and after 3 bullets I was at 1/4 of my hp. I must say, this build is very strong and I've seen a bit of its potential when with a lot of aggressiveness, I killed the GP many times, sometimes half-hp, sometimes below 100 hp. Although, I had to get a wriggle's lantern because I couldn't keep it. While he was growing strong and his Q was getting even more painful, I was standing there trying to recover a bit of my HP with my passive. I found out that the only way I could of recover my HP faster was to AA the minions which ended as a result that I was pushing my lane and trading kills with the jungler. It took me too long to get my bf sword and maybe if I had all the CDR/lvl glyphs (which I realized that they could of saved me many times in that fight), I could of made it, which, in conclusion, I suppose the only way to finish this expensive but godlike build is to get fed. This build has a lot of potential and I would love to discuss it with you and learn how you would have done it because I have no clue.
PS. We surrendered and my score was 8/11/2 (sorry I couldn't find a way to upload my last match history without a big white screen screwing it all)

One of the most bad-*** builds to a vet Xin player.

11/3/4

Even with a D/C'd Fizz that never came back.

Oh yeah, Don't mind that Cooper vato. He's just a Xin hater.

But yes, My team was digging the whole 'CARRY ME ON YOUR BROAD SEXY SHOULDERS, Xin!'

I have a few problems with this guide.

#1 Maxing Q is a bad idea. It only does more bonus dmg vs E when its lvl 3, and then drops again. Not to mention you DO have to hit all 3 times to get the full effect. Maxing E on the other hand does about 5-15 more bonus dmg depending on level, AOE dmg, and each level reduces its cool down and aswell as increasing the slow. I actually would suggest getting maxing E>Q>W

#2 Black cleaver is a bad item on everyone. Just get a Wits end.

Hye guys, I never played Xin Zhao and never played Udyr. Right now I'm hesitating which one of the two to buy. I don't jungle, ever, and I,Ve heard tht Udyr is best when jungling, that true? I play a fair amount of dominion, so having a hero that performs well in both game modes would be great.

Heres my play style in 5v5 oe 3v3 : I like to harass a lot. Nuff said. Thanks guys.

Hey, please update this build more often. I like it a lot, but not only do I really want to know what sort of offensive situational items you would recomment (I personally like Madred's Bloodrazors for teams that build straight health), but they have also changed the Deadliness Mastery to give extra attack DMG rather than Crit chance.

Thanks for a great build

That said, I definitely think the base item sequence could be combined with the secondary items for better effect. I don't even think about grabbing damage items with Xin until I have some extra health/regen, MR, or armor going on.

I would suggest you to take only one point in q spell and the rest on w and e spell:

e spell makes 70/110/150/190/230 (+0.40) additional MAGICAL Damage with 16/15/14/13/12 cd and 20/25/30/35/40% slow
so even if you hit your full q combo you do less damage then with your e spell and usually enemies have more armor than magic resistance so you do even more damage. Furthermore you have a stronger slow up to 40% so you can land more hits cause you don't have to run that much. In the end the cooldown is just a little bit more, so e spell is more worth it. Try it out yourself. The only problem is the higher mana amount of cost

You have a good point, E does more damage upfront than Q. However, your Q hits the target THREE times, so triple the damage (plus your attack damage). You then have the overall damage of your Q. Maxing E is not good also, due to its high mana cost.
Maxing E should come last, while W is maxed second. (The initial slow paired with your high AS should be more than enough to pop them up in the air with your Q)

Hello!

Congratz for the guide, I'll be following it and my performance has improved a lot.

I also find this build to leave Xin a little squishy, mainly against mages...in teamfights you either enter after everybody or chances are you're going down quickly if focused. I'd like some more health/mr...

Playstyle section is much needed also!!! For us new players it would help even more than the build itself....one of my biggest issues is earning enough gold to actually make the items... :--) looking forward to reading the playstyle section!!

[-]
J4nG (1) | January 10, 2012 7:02pm
In my opinion, this build really needs some tank items earlier on. Building Xin for pure damage is always suicide, and being squishy until you get a good amount of gold is not ideal.

This guide is pretty terrible.

#1 It is outdated HEAVILY. Xin Zhao is garbage now. Release Xin was so incredibly broken, that you could use this build and do fine.

#2 You are building a melee fighter with no resistances and no health. If you are up against any team with the slightest idea of what they are doing, you will get CCed and die within half a second. You do not build melee fighters with all carry items, as you have to get within breathing range to do damage. If you walk anywhere near the enemy team, they will blow you up immediately.

#3 Ok, so you added defensive items as SITUATIONAL items. They are not situational, they are core items. Do you know how many people will come to this guide, and simply copy the build order at the top of the page? Further more, you didn't even acknowledge how squishy you are, and the fact that you have no escapes or CC reduction.

Classic Mobafire guide.

cmon now are you serious???? in a ranked game a xin dressed up with a build like this will be just food for the enemy unless normal ones are your moto...........as you have said above xin has no natural escape mechanism somethink that premisses the purchase of survivability items and mainly those that offer you magik resist since casters are xin's main enemies!!!! xin is a bruiser and we cannot change this fact.he s neither a tank nor a carry but a BRUISER!!!! you ll have to fulfill 2 major roles as zhao.......make quick job of the enemy carries as well as absorbing enough dmg in order to properly contribute in the domination of teamfights agains the enemy.... youmous ghostblade along with black cleaver amd last whisper are more than enough for the first role to be succesfully accomblished!!!!now for the second one randuins omen is a must buy item in my eyes....you initie with e pop out r then activate randuins and what do we have here.....aoe over effect slows accompanied with next to,if not true dmg from your ulti with all thsi armor penetration we re supplied with......you dont need trinity force or mallet for 2 major reasons.....firstly your e along with exhaust are just enough to make somenone's escape impossible......the 20% cdr you get from youmous and randuins in combination with the crd you get from your glyphs will make your e be available in like 3 secs more or less and secondly in my eyes filling a slot with one of these 2 is just a slot wasted since it gives you next to zero survivability but dmg but we unleash ****loads of dgm already why should we get more???? last but not least the best defensive item in my eyes bansheis veil should have a place to fit in since its way to valuable to just overlook it.....ONE THINK...it blocks one negative spell every 45 secs comes in handy with your auducious charge gives you health mana magik resist....need i say more???? i hope you ll take into account my advice over the issue about xin zhao......nevertheless someone as experienced as i with xin zhao( dont take it as a boasting ;) ) can make use of your all offensive build pretty well so ill give you +1 mate!!!!

Bad choice of seals and trinity. Try more tanky seals and an item that has MR +HR or +H/M = more wins. Way too squishy for league play, but even in normal casual games it lacks a bit. Plus your very low K/D/A should go up a bit.

Last solo normal with Xin = 43/8/18
Solo ranked 5v5 with Xin = 36/9/13

Good luck!

Nice guide, in my first 4 games with it, I had 3 wins and an overall KD of 33-18. One of the wins (10/2/8 for my part) was a 2 vs 3 after 10 minutes.
I definitly like your build, my only problem has been low health. To counter that, I got a warmogs, because I noticed that I almost one-hit the minions after getting black cleaver and phantom dancer. You might wanna add this item to your build, even though it is another expensive one. It is especially great when you play a 3vs3 and are the only melee champ. I also got warmogs in another game, in which I got focused first in every single fight, being the only one of our team who got killed while the enemy team got aced. The warmogs made me survive the next to team fights and the enemy team surrendered.

I agree that build good, but is big BUT. The problem with survival rate I not to advertize mine build, nevertheless I suggest to consider now already RONDUIN'S OMEN as item good and would help with a difficult situation and if hands straight it is possible to kill a two and even more.

Hey!

Really kick-*** build! I started playing Xin like 3 days ago, and I already do scores like 10/0/8 with that build xD

I just changed the item order a bit, but still, it's kinda the same build. I switched Trinity Force and Infinity Edge because I want my crits to do more damage earlier.

Anyway, your build helped me a lot! Good work, keep it up dude! :)

Where is Hexdrinker >.<

I love that item :D and on Xin, I normally go

The Black Cleaver
Berserker's Greaves
Wriggle's Lantern
Hexdrinker
Phantom Dancer
Frozen Mallet

That way I get a little of every resist type and still make my damage become beast :D

I'd say though, that Hexdrinker is one item for the risk takers, since you just may not trigger the passive :x anyways, you did a very nice work here ^^ congratulations

Not 7, but 5 seconds. It's still awesome, but a little less. ;)

Very good guide, but I can't upvote it because you didn't set new masteries. Typical set of 21/9/0 would fit perfectly.

I dont have that much experience with the game (only lvl 17) but i usually go with frozen mallet instead of trinity force. You get massive health and a slow applying for your attacks and it is cheaper so you should at least put it up on your situational items :) please tell me if i'm wrong

madalin120988 (23) | November 25, 2011 6:05am
This is what people call a glass-cannon build, all offense, no defense, it works on carries, even melee ones like Tryndamere and Master Yi, but an assassin should not be built like this, plus Xin is also a fighter, you need to have at least a little bit of bulk, or you'll get focused like crazy and all the life-steal in the world won't help you against 3 guys attacking you at the same time, a build like this is good for shredding anyone in a 1 vs 1 situation(probably even a Tryndamere), but in team fights it means you either melt or have to run away leaving your team vulnerable. You are not a ranged carry that can stay in the back and shoot people, neither a guy like Tryndamere and Master Yi that can always escape unharmed. One of your situational items should be in the core build, although I think Xin should always have 2 defensive items.

Its a pwn build after Trinity however don't you find it a little underpowered at mid game without Life Steal?
Other than that question I've got to say:
Early Game 86% of cases I get First blood- people (even tanks) are a Three Talon Strike from
sure death.
Late Game: Pleeeaaase brother! You think you can go against me? Even with 4 guys behind you?

I don't buy Trinity on Xin, it's a waste. It's so expensive, time and slot consuming, and he wouldn't benefit from it as much as say Infinity Edge, Black Cleaver, Last Whisper, etc.
IMO if you have your Phantom Dancer (most important item, I rush greaves, then that as well.) You don't need the effects of Phage, you're Xin. You get 3 hits off, and there's the on of the meanest CC's in the game. Slow shouldn't be an issue. Possible benefits from Sheen are ok, but honestly just beef up AD and Armor Pen, and make those 3 hits, and the 3 after it totally demolish them.
Skip that Trinity step, and go straight to those high end dps items with the BF Sword!

(let me die twice in about 3 minutes due to missing skill shots real bad.) I remembered this build. The Attack speed was able to keep me healed quite well Against my over farmed lane. Turned the game quite fast. Picked up a nice triple kill due to the healing factor. I now favor this build over anything. +1 and +100 from me.

ok i have a few pieces of helpful critisism: 1. i think you have out infinity edge in way to late. i think its one of his core items. 2. in the masteries you have put one into magic pent and 4 in CDR and left out 2 from attack dmg? that confuses me... pls explain?

[-]
elthana | August 13, 2011 6:25pm
yes this build is good and i used somthing close to this before i saw this, i think its one of the most effective way to play xin, another Situationual items would be to replace phantom dancer with a stinger, that way you can start working on the TF. if you do choose to get a stinger for a quick attack speed boost you will have to change out IE for something else, but i never usually get that far

KenanAndKel | August 11, 2011 9:31am
Been using this build since I started playing and love it. Generally get Banshee's in place of one of the later offensive items.

I've found one of the best partners a Xin can have is an Alistar. Alistar's charge combined with Xin's knock-up practically guarantees a kill before the mobs spawn if the opposing team is foolhardy enough to face check the bush. If your Alistar builds AP, you can kill most squishes mid and late game before they can even hit the ground.

Good work on the build, man.

A very offensive build. You have put up some optional items. In most games you will need at least one of them. I would like to see a list of good lane partners. And add taric to that list. Stun allows xin to instantly catch up. Shatter allows him to kill enemy's fast because of the armor reduction. Heal allows xin to play aggressive. And because taric is a support, xin can get all the last hits. Since gold is more important for him then exp.
I never played xin, but i'm a taric user :P. I often duo lane bot with a friend of mine. He uses xin allot. It works very well. I will tell him to take a look at this guide.

Very popular xin build and also very effective but only in normal games. In ranked games people knows how to play and they never let xin farm so much and he's the first one to focus at most of the time.
In other words - full attack/damage build is good only for normal games not ranked ones.

this build is not that great tbh. xin only needs 2-3 offensive items and the rest has to be defensive items. Having banshees and atmas impalar late game is way more important than more offense. i normally build trinity and cleaver and rest defensive items.

lets build a melee character with no escape mechanisms and two iniation skills and high base damage with pure DPS items lol makes pure sense.

lets charge into 5 people team with a 30 armour/mr 1.7k health melee character who is squishier than ashe with no escape mechanism and two initation skills and high base damage and expect not to get gibbed in 0.02 seconds pure sense.

pure logic is pure.

If you play Xin in this style, you deserve the many defeats that will come to you.

But for the record, Xin is not squishier than an Ashe.

I like the build, however, I can't get passed the whole building Xin into a Glass Cannon of sorts. I've seen others (enemies and teammates) do it and they just get owned so quick. Yeah your attack speed is up there, and your lifesteal from your output can keep you alive, it and only if you don't get hit by a stun lasting 2 or more seconds.

I find building him like this would be great in normal games but in ranked there is always atleast 2 stuns on a good team, and as Xin your gonna be focused if you don't wait till after the initiation is over for you tank to soak all the CC. If you show up to early to a fight your getting shut down hard, Xin with this build makes you Prime Target #1 and even showing up late to team fights by a few seconds might help your chance for living through it, but a good team will wait for the DPS to show up to unload on unless the Tank is a real threat.

I know that if you get fed early on, this could work out insanely well, but if the other team can turtle long enough and extend the game, they build bulk and survival and tons of damage and will be able to shut you out from killing them at that point.

Yeah I see many people build TriForce on him and call it survival, yeah you get decent Hp and a higher Output, but if your CC'd down your just sitting there wondering what went wrong. Building HP's with the current meta isn't enough and as a melee AD, you need bulk and defense to survive in the middle of the action rather then melting after you get hit by Brands 3 second stun, that your charge, yeah auto hits you, unless you roll with Flash like me and flash to the side and charge, but then some see that as a waist even though it gets the job done.

But as you can see I can be very long winded on Xin as a Glass Cannon, so I think I got my point across. Overall, great layout on the guide, but I would personally say Items need a bit of a revamp for you main build rather than running Glass Cannon.

Rep given for excellent feedback. Everything you have said is somewhat true, so I can't really argue against it. I personally use it quite often in ranked, and even moreso as a jungle swapping PD for Madred's. However, it takes a certain degree of patience and a lot of experience on when to join in a team fight. Like you said, if you wait a couple seconds your chance of survival is much higher. If your tank is doing a decent job, I can normally hop in the middle of a team fight and kill at least 2 before I'm focused down enough to be killed.

I have used boots of mobility on Xin 95% of all my games and I find them to more than compensate for the attack speed lost when not using beserkers. The plus 5 out of combat combined with phantoms and tri equals invaluable time shed off cross map treks, and could be the difference between life and death encounters, or the last hit on the ace who might get away with berserkers. Otherwise, pro guide.

Boots of Mobility will work just fine. I may even recommend that, or change it in my guide. When I first wrote this, I worried less about ganking and moving across the map and more about solid lane dominance. I'll go back to Xin for a couple games, try the boots change, and let you know.

i replace sheen with sword of the divine

1. Xin doesnt need the mana
2. the passive ability is just as good or even better when u reached a high attk speed.
3. the 60% extra attack speed is a must :)
4. the active ;)

Great guide, helped me a lot when I purchased Xin and when leveling up. Damage was unreal, against less skilled opponents I've managed some extraordinary scores.

However, once I was lvl30 and starting solo ranked or vs premades on normal, this build just didn't cut it anymore. When you have a tank, healer, ap and no jungler, you usually need an off-tank, and that's where Xin comes in handy. I usually start with Doran's shield and Mercury's threads. The core item is Madred's as it gives me speed, armor and damage plus nice passive, very useful against tanks. I get Vampiric Scepter somewhere in between. Depending on the situation I either go for Frozen Mallet for more hp and again great passive or Aegis of the Legion for team buff. Usually the last item is Banshee's Veil, again, depending on the situation. That's over 3k health, 130ish armor and ~170 MR with attack speed 1.5 and around 270dmg + Madred's proc(I also use a different set of Runes with 19% AS increase and 18 Armor pen or sometimes I throw in some CDR runes). It's also 2k coins cheaper.

Someone might say I'm playing Xin the wrong way but I've learned to master him a bit differently than other people are playing him and it's working for me.

In case you try my build, let me know how does it work for you. And thanks to the author for this great build as it helped me a lot.

very nice guide!
used it and went 18/5/11 on summoners rift.
however, i might suggest a small change. I used Phanton Dancer,Beserkers Greaves,Black Cleaver, Infinity Edge, Sword of the Divine and Last Whisper. It gave me a great amount of attack speed, Armor Penetration and undodgeable attacks.
Reasons of my changes: Last whisper i find to be a great item on any physical carry. the ability to shred armor with black cleaver and LW can sometimes reduce armor to Zero or below, thus allowing Xin Zhao to strike even harder. Sword of the Divine i always use on Twisted Fate and im incorporating it into Xin Zhao as well. the passive 100 magic damage every four hits, combined with his amazing attack speed and the masteries/runes, enable builds with SotD/Madred's Bloodrazor into them can allow an already beefy AD carry to dominate even more!

Very nice build. Also, I think you should try out Wit's End after you got enough movement speed, especially against AP carries or nukers or if they stack armor. It adds magic damage comparable to a BF Sword, the attack speed of a Recurve Bow and magic resistance comparable to a Negatron Cloak. Xin needs them all (magic resist often, unless there are 3+ AD carries), and for such a small price, it's works extremely well for him.

Now that I know what I'm doing I change it around to my playing style, but this really gave me a good start on what to look for. If you ever get enough money to build everything and still have left over, go ahead and get a second PD.

@ninja
Sword of the Occult is a great item for this build, but I tend to not include snowball items in guides since you have to be having a great game for it to work well.

I love and always use this build except once. This once was when I bought sword of occult. I maxed out stacks and by endgame i had full build except trinity force (because I got sword of occult) I sold my Boots and Bought Last Whisper because they were stacking armor. If I hadn't bought last whisper though I would've gotten Trinity force. This will give you a ton more damage and give you a lot of movement speed too. So we end up with: Sword of Occult, Trinity Force, Black Cleaver, Phantom Dancer, Bloodthirsters, and Infinity Edge. All those equal total and epic domination.

WAAAAY to squishy. I just played a coop game to test it out and i died ALOT, 12 times to be exact. Although i did get 30 kills ;D Even so, it was only a bot game and even though it is true i did get focused alot by the bots, i feel i would have gotten focused and pwned even harder by real ppl. I was dying 1v1 against all but ashe bot for a good chunk of the late game. I just used to quick reference build at the top though but added banshee's. I will try using some of the reccomended defense item next time. But I feel every build, even in the quick guide at top should have defense items in it because there is NO champion that can survive effectively(especially not a melee one) without a single defense item. Just something to think about

okay so i've looked through so many xin builds and threads, and tried many different builds(including yours several times). and i believe i found the perfect build for him. 1st lemme say your build is okay, but i really dont understand trinity force on him, to be honest(and i really dont mean to be offensive) seeing it on him makes me wanna puke :p
the ability power is next to uselss, the mana isn't necessary, it isnt that often that i'm out of mana, and if i want more mana i get blue buff, the slow is on chance, and the 'on cast' is only 150% of his BASE dmg. now as for my build(in this order):

berzerker's greaves(if they have some cc's then mercury treads)
phantom dancer(if the other team is more AP or theyre stacking armor then wit's end)
youmuu's ghostblade(after i get this i want more mana because CDR, so i get blue buff)
randuin's omen(the active slow is AoE, if the other team is more AP then frozen mallet)
sword of the divine(the active scales with xin's ultimate)
the bloodthirster(if you got wit's end then madred's bloodrazor scales better with it so get it)

i HIGHLY suggest you try this.

i think this build is great but im not very agreed with your build... look mine ! i hate that items like starting with dagger , i know u think its for stacking the passive of xin zhao but i start with dorans blade that gives 100 life 3% lifesteal and 10 dmg including my runes i have 87 dmg at start so i rape but other thing i think that is bad from your build is your trinity force it doesnt work well with xin zhao but im agreed with all the rest of the items depending on the other team you can use the Black Cleaver because if thy are all squishies they will die anyways with no Black Cleaver.... Im not very agreed with the Summoner spells but im agreed with ghost i think you can change the exahust for a ignite because if your enemy is like ww or mundo or idk someone that heals its a great idea to use ignite hes heal regen or lifesteal will reduce by 50% of his lifesteal or his heal ok this is what i think of your build dont take it bad its just my opinion well but nice job anyways ... MY BUILD is BONEBROKER!.

It's ok to have differences of opinion on Xin, but the one thing I can't let go is Trinity Force is truly one of the best items for Xin Zhao.

Not saying it's bad, I just normally die really fast if I don't have at least one survivability item.

This is one of the biggest issues with this build and it really depends on gameplay. Recently I almost always jungle which means I normally have the element of surprise and can take down enemies before a coordinated reaction happens. However, I have the optional items listed because it is not uncommon for me to grab a survivability item.

Really good build. The only thing i could suggest is maybe putting a jungling guide (what i usually do), add building more defensive items help. Also, i don't know why a lot of people like upgrading q before e. E does same damage and the slow levels up each rank. Its better for ganking or getting that kill in my opinion. Either way, solid build, +1.

why this terrible build is the #1 for xin i have no idea

TBasil13 (4) | June 13, 2011 8:58am
Awful... the attack speed isn't high enough early game. I don't understand why you max your Q first. Absolute garbage... I'm sorry, but this is the worst Xin Zhao build I have ever come across. I find it to be laughable that this build was made this year and that it has so many up votes. Truly a great many people tried this against incompetent players who didn't know how to counter Xin. He needs more attack speed early game and with the buff to his W, I don't see why you max his Q first.

I feel like a youmuu's ghostblade is a better pick than trinity force. The armor pen, atk spd, move speed, and crit chance seems to fit this build quite nicely

I would prefer take Frozen mallet or another Bloodthirster if you are farming well instead of Trinity force , since Xin has tons of ASPD , the 100% hit after cast doesnt really worth it.

Yes I'm also wondering if Sheen/Trinity Force is worth it. First off, Sheen. Are the 25 AP and the proc worth it?

I've played a few games now quite strictly to this build and it's not bad, but I still think getting boots as your first item paired with 3 health pots gives more merit to you in the start (at least it does to me). As an explanation to why, you get your q to hit all 3 strikes more often, since at the start it's rather easy to outrun or avoid you.

Black cleaver and phantom dancer were solid items and I stand by them, but trinity force really didn't seem to carry it's weight with the price tag on it being rather high. The move speed is nice, but other than that, it seemed weak. Especially due to grabbing red buff quite continuously, the phage effect also loses it's meaning more or less. The sheen effect is somewhat okish, but I'd vouch for moving on to other items like bloodthirster.

If you really want the "better" trinity force effects, I'd build another phantom dancer and a phage, totaling to something like 4015 gold? Giving you the slow effect and the move speed. Just basically removes the sheen out of the equation. Surely you lose a space from your inventory, but later on if you really get there you can sell the phage.

Why am I so against sheen you say? I find it really hard to utilize it to it's max potential on xin. You usually hit your skills very fast when entering combat in a swift burst, sure you get your q and e cd's back with w, but still not really a major boost to damage as I see it.

These are all just things I've figured out from playing, not trying to diss your guide or anything, rather I found it to be very well written so I wanna offer my ideas in case they'd help make it even better. Keep it up :)

Olmond | June 3, 2011 12:50am
Looks pretty solid, never tried xin before with trinity force but will do so. Also I usually play with flat armor seals and per lvl magic resist glyphs. Do you think the attack speed and cdr are better? Also I usually start off with boots rather than a dagger, not sure what you think about that. Anyway, will give this spec a shot :)
Ps. This looks very similar to your poppy build :D

[-]
Velin | June 2, 2011 4:54pm
This is a very good build, the runes are great the masteries are great. However there is a problem with the item build. The Trinity force is not needed. I Recommend following the items but dropping the trinity force skip straight to the blood thirster item build up, build up the infinity edge followed by another blood thirster. It will increase you damage and life steal. other than that great job on this build.

I prefer to not buy The black Cleaver, and instead buy starks fervor and another phantom dancer, I know xin zhao passive lifesteal but still the passive and bloodthurster isnt enough. when i play xin zhao i ussually go for attack speed, Lifesteal and crit.

So i buy Infinity edge, phantom dancer, bloodthurster and a starksfervor!

But il give this a try and see whjat happens! Vote!

Really loved it and it helped me a lot when i started playing xin
Gz for mentioning Quicksilver Sash that is one awesome Item
But as a reccomendation : I found that a Sword of the Divine really helps if u get it early after The Black Cleaver. Great Attack speed and the passive is insane with ap builds. 100magic dmg every 2 seconds:D also the armor penetration from its active stacks nicely with The Black Cleaver

This build is ok I've had some great games using it but I've had more success with Guardsman Bob's guide here on mobafire. The Guardsman's is just all around better mostly because of some defensive items and it's cost for items is more realistic. The starting build for Guardsman allows for more flexibility in situational games. This build lacks attack damage early because you spend sooooo much time and money farming the BF sword for Black Cleaver it's just hard to gather gold when you can't do damage. You are much better off trying to farm a Brutalizer and using that to get you more gold faster. Furthermore you rely on TTS to farm but the ability is really only good on kills when you get the knockup. Leveling your E then W before Q is a much better idea cause it allows you to farm well and the slow last longer which allows you to land more auto attacks and 3 hits with TTS. Guardsmans Bob theory is don't follow guides just do what is best for the current game and he is so right. I've had much success with ghostblade > merc > lantern > trinity force then two items of my choice. Lately I've been finishing with bloodrazors and wit's end because they are solid offensive items with defensive attributes. The magic damage you gain from those last two items makes you very difficult to defend against. You will literally shred opponents to pieces after they stack tons of armor because you will also do tons of magic damage.

I modified this build a bit, going Cloth Armor + 5 HP Pots, two Hearts of Gold, then building Zerkers or Mercs, Bloodthirster's, Randuins, Ghostblade. By then, it's usually over (Unless I play mid, in which case build a defense item or BF Sword)... Recently went 11/1/4 and then 12/6/3 mids, at level 10. Good build.

Props to you HIACliff. I have used this build for well over 150 matches and as long as I play with another competent person, I can easily go 30+ kills and less than 10 deaths. The item selection is perfect, and the defensive items you suggest have saved me countless times when I overextended myself with Xin, which is hard to do ;). Thanks so much and keep up the stellar work.

So I just bought Xin Zhao, I was in love with him since I saw the Spotlight, and even now as I play him I consider him the best Carry character in the game. But besides the point, I've been following this guide like religiously, and I can honestly say it is a lot of work to get it all down, but when I do get it all down, as in items substantially speaking of course, I mainly get to Trinity Force and start the dominating. Again off topic, I'm really terrible at this.

QUESTION:
My question is that I don't actually know how to start off with Xin, how can I make him more effective in the beginning? I mean I enjoy the whole passive and all that with the TTS, but like I don't really know how to use it properly, or how to even abuse with Xin. And also I was thinking of forming a team for my friend and I, he was going to go Patheon and I as Xin Zhao, and we were going to see how the two worked out together, I was going to ask of your personal experience, would you happen to have any Idea if these two Champions have ever worked together or against you? I mean I was always curious about the spear user combo.

Anyways, these are things I think would help your guide greatly, I mean not that it isn't bad atm, its pretty much god like.

I don't know just a suggestion, my summoner name is *****bagfive58 ._. It wasn't my decision my friend typed it in when I wasn't looking...

Done blabbering, excellent work man, I can't believe how much better I've gotten with him just by looking at this guide. Thanks for all your effort.

I was wondering about your glyphs. The Glyph of Celerity is argued not to be as strong as Glyph of Focus. I found this site where people talk about it. http://runeterra.com/forums/index.php?topic=100.0

So is it true that you are better off taking the Focus ones because they don't break even till about level 13 in which most people said fights should be over by then in which would mean that the Focus glyphs would be a lot more better through out the game.

It's not tanky enough for my taste, although I appreciate the "situational items" section where you discuss alternatives. I feel like at least one tanky item should be core, though. :/

The lack of cheap, quick attack speed surprises me. Triforce+TBC+Phantom Dancer is plenty but Ghostblade+Sword of the Divine gives you about the same amount of AS for about a third of the price, along with a substantial amount of armor penetration and all-around goodness.

Still, it clearly works for you - I'm just throwing some more commonly used variants out there.

If it were me, I would probably swap that for the Phantom Dancer. This will make up for each other with the attack speed, but just keep in mind you are losing the movement speed and critical chance bonuses.

And start with a Dorans Sheild. The only good about this guide is the Runes(very nice choice) and the masteries. Black Cleaver yes and Phantom Dancer too. OR Blood Thirster if your gonna farm it up and get it to 100 AD.

The Xin buff will only help! Doesn't change the build whatsoever, but just makes your w spell even more useful.

As far as the Phantom Dancer swap goes, definitely go for it. I didn't mention that in the guide because it is very rare to get that much money, but if you get that much go ahead.

Yes, and it is a great alternative item to the build given. It will definitely be in the suggested item section when I can complete it.

This isn't a bad thing! Your 3-4 items are just as good as a whole as the other players' 6 items that are mediocre items. No matter whether you complete the whole build or not, you will be on the same level as people who have spent about the same amount of money. The difference is, if the game goes on for a long time and you do happen to complete the entire build, you just become completely unstoppable!

For those talking about the lack of defense: see optional item section. It's there for a reason.

The majority of the time, the 15% extra pen is worth it more than just a single attack damage if you have even 1 skill that deals magic damage. Xin has only one, but it may deal a lot more than 1 damage extra with this mastery.

Great question. I personally throw it in there because 15% of your AC (or sunfire cape and other magic damage) can add up to a lot more than a single attack damage. If you want to make that change, feel free. It will be only a minor difference overall.

and beginning with 30% critical chance, maybe its not a good choice too?

Some people say about armor penetration...but then why exists other runes? =/ If i hit a critical isnt a double damage? That will not rape more?

That particular hit will deal more damage, yes. But over an average of say, 10 hits, you will be dealing more damage overall with armor penetration runes. I fully realize that I am just stating this with no proof, but if you still aren't convinced I can get you a link to the forums where it has been proven a couple of times mathematically.

3 games in a row and i could not stay in fight long enough until late game to do anything for all 3. Each game we lost, 2 out of 3 premade

once ur disabled (especialy attack speed slowed) ur screwed. end of story.

Xin is one of my mains. Ive been playing him a little after he came out so i am not used to doing this bad with him.

I'm sorry you did poorly. Were you playing 5's? Either way, you shouldn't be the one initiating. If you wait for the fight to start, then most of the time the other team uses up their cc's.

Xin as a "glass cannon" is clearly not useless, as 92% of people reading this guide had good luck with it. I'm just sharing the style I play him with.

You don't leave much of a comment to understand. I tried to interpret the one line as much as I could. Sentences like "joking?" don't leave a lot to be interpreted.

I didn't downvote your guide because you downvoted mine. I downvoted your guide because you left a rude, non-constructive comment with your downvote and I didn't think your guide was worthy. All I said was "Eh" because that's exactly what I think of your guide, it's mediocre. If you want a full description of all the reasons why I downvoted, I'd be happy to go back and leave a full message. Plenty of people have downvoted by guide and left constructive criticism, and I have gone on to give their guides the same criticism, often with a thumbs up. Anybody who gives my guide legitimate criticism for the betterment of the guide won't receive a downvote from me, they will receive the same critical comment so that their guide can also be better.

Also, I've played with and talked to many 12 year olds that are more mature than some of the 20 year olds on the game, so your comment doesn't really offend me. If you think I'm pathetic and sad, then you have the right to your opinion, and I won't lose sleep over it.

Failure to read the actual guide? There is a full section devoted to defensive items.

At any rate, without ultimates for either party a Xin Zhao would destroy a Yi in my opinion, and with ultimates I imagine Yi would probably win but it would be a pretty close fight.

The Burst/Dps in this build is immense, but I must agree with a lot of people that this build makes you too squishy. I like situational items and that is why I'm giving it a thumbs up. With the all-tab version, I get killed within the first few seconds of a team fight, and if not, I will come in to clean up the mess. I usually wait about 3 seconds before joining the teamfight, but by then my ult doesn't have quite as much effect. By the way, Good job. Azns Ftw... It has begun

@skerrakis
Exactly. You pretty much nailed it. You have to play a bunch of games to get the feel for when it's the right time to go at it, but once you get that feeling down you can really dominate games without defensive items.

@JuicY
Frozen Mallet is a viable alternative to Trinity. In my opinion, I think the TF is better. I do not have Frozen Mallet listed in the situational items section yet because I consider an offensive weapon for this build more than defensive.

@MrWhity
I just have to disagree here. :P I think Xin is one of the best early game champs for ganks period.

I been playing Xin recently and I thought I discovered the awesomeness of the Trinity Force on him, but looks like you found it first.

With his w and insane attack speed, you're spamming (and respamming) your abilities after you initiate with e, and each time you spam an ability, you are hitting for 2.5 times your base damage. Couple that with armor pen and it is gee gee!

Armor penetration is more effective in dealing damage then critical runes in almost all cases. If you'd like some references there are many places where people have shown the math. I can get you a link.

I like this build very much because it allows him to dish out great amounts of damage, however he does seem to melt immediately in teamfights although our team has a tank to initiate which is a pain in the ***. I can never deal any real damage and I'm already dead before any of that happens. Upvote from me :)

I'm not sure it'll remove Malzahars ult. Are you 100%? Cleanse cannot remove it.

DAAAAMN XD this last match i had was INTENSE!!! WE WON THOUGH =D!!! 53min!!! thanks to your guide i think i did alot better this time!

To sum it up: they left us with 1 nexus turret down and top n mid inhibitors down but THANK GOD our TF was able to backdoor 2 inhibitors after i destroyed the turrets and i myself destroyed an ihbitor and got back just in time to save our base...too bad our garen fed so much and our tyr wasnt doing so good...

when i got to infinity edge (right before destroyin the inhibitors) and even if we had no tank, i just tanked the hell out of heimer, mf n shaco xD...alistar and yi gave me a hard time though =/... anyways, here's the score =)

i think i found a new champ to play with (being my main ezreal, then fiddle, then ryze then garen)

I kinda wanna upvote now cause I overlooked you designed this build for 3v3 success, which I totally have no clue cause I used it in 5v5, and since 5v5 teamfights are so chaotic and big, you most times receive much damage.

[-]
HIACliff (59) | March 7, 2011 12:35pm
I'm glad to see you had such success. As you play more and more (especially in ranked games, the experience helps) you will find that your deaths will decrease as you learn the limits of this build. It definitely has its survivability limits, but it also has nearly unmatched killing potential. If you are smart about when you attack, you will easily have games that have a KD ratio of 5:1 or even better.

Like you I'm a Xin Zhao fan and created a build.
What I dislike about yours and the reason why I downvote is that I don't like the way why you go directly for The Black Cleaver.
It's quiet expensive and before that you don't have any defensive items, damage output.
Your build is great in end game but in teamfights you die so quick cause you depend on The Bloodthirster which gives you lifesteal.
Anyways nice write-ups but can't agree with your item choices/build.

I personally depend on the Bloodthirster very little, which is why it is towards the end of this build. In a Twisted Treeline game I rarely find getting defensive items necessary, as the other team is dead before they are needed. Play with some intelligence early game before you get the cleaver, and that shouldn't be an issue either. That being said, sometimes you do need these things which is why I have situational defensive items and a couple optional items in the beginning of the build.

Thanks for the comment.

The Poppy build was first, but I took it and tweaked it for the way I play Xin and have been adding to this one ever since. The items are the same, but much of the strategy and such is different.

There are a few possible reasons to the problems you are having, and I hope in the future you might try to realize that the problem isn't necessarily the guide. Since I've addressed the issues you've mentioned multiple times, I start to feel slightly bitter at the downvote. Not to mention trolls like the post beneath you.

The items being expensive is not really an issue. If you only have 4 really expensive items, you will be just as good as a player with 6 cheap or medium items. They are expensive for a reason, and that is because they give stats that are worth it. Most expensive items also have good intermediary items, such as trinity force. The only time where you might genuinely be a bit behind your opponents is if you wait for the BF sword immediately after Berserker's Greaves like I suggest. During this 4 minute window of time, just be aware that your opponents will probably have better items and focus on minion kills.

You do NOT have to be squishy. If you are finding that you are too squishy with this guide, its because you are just reading what the items are and not the actual guide. If you read the guide itself, you will find that I listed 7 or 8 defensive items that are good alternatives. I also mentioned multiple times that this build is for 3 v 3 and if you are getting focused by a team of 5 then there is no way in hell you'll survive. If you bought a couple defensive items and you were still not staying alive, then you need to work on your playstyle a bit and come check in when I post that section of the guide. There are 200+ people here who were able to stay alive, so consider that the player may be the problem every once in a while and not this guide.

(/end rant)

I'd consider replacing the Berserker Boots with Mercury Treads. You already have tons of attack speed, and one second less of CC + the magic resist can make a huge difference in competitive play. Bloodrazor would be a nice fit as well - perhaps replacing Trinity Force. The added magical damage with Xin's insane attack speed would make it that much harder for them to build against you, as you'd be doing tons of both physical and magical damage.

I'd end up getting Guardian Angel somewhere in there as well, to help your survivability. Perhaps instead of the Infinity Edge. Guardian's Angels bonuses to both MR and Armor, along with your ultimate's defensive bonus should pump you up into the 60% damage reduction for both armor and magic, and the reviving effect is awesome considering you'll likely be focus fired as soon as you initiate.

Thank you, as I forgot to put Mercury's Treads in the situational items. I completely agree with you, and that was an oversight on my part.

Madred's will be an optional item. I would be careful getting rid of Trinity and IE, as you are really going to start hurting your damage output. In some games that is necessary to stay alive, however.

That's an interesting idea, that I admittedly hadn't thought of. How is your movement speed doing this? I'm sure you take a hit without the boots but since you already are so damn fast with this build that might be a viable idea... I'll have to look into this and test it.

Precisely. If you play over aggressively or with a lack of good judgement, you will die a lot. If you want to be able to charge into large groups by yourself I suggest you play a tank. However, if you use common sense and swoop into team fights that have just started you can find yourself killing the entire team.

Not true by any means. If you've never seen an AD carry not get shut down, then you need to play a lot more games before you comment on guides.

If you are having trouble with survivability, by all means grab a defensive item.

If you change Trinity Force to another Phantom there is no-one you cant defeat, Crits all the time, but Trinity force I might say is good but no Critical Rate and not good attack speed as well...

hi.
i tried this guide the first time and that should really say nothin about this guide but...: 28-17-16.^^

i did it as ur guide is showing and expected an early dead coz of lack of defense..but i was surprised.
died only a few time in the early. earnd enough money and that very quick!.
got the complete build and a lot money at the end to spend: berzeker boots, PD,Black Cleaver, Trinity,Bloodthurster, IE

i shreddered threw the enemies but died a lot of coz...rest of the team was a bit ..."scared to fight"
the build is really good: an enemy who is dead cant hurt u..hm.

the situational items are important i think: Force of Nature, QS etc.(can u use quicksilver when u are silenced?)

the strenght of this build in my opinion is the movementspeed and the dmg-output. not surviveability.
but what do u think about ghostblade instead of PD or BC? (the active is important)
Whats with aditional lefeleech items like Starks fervor ?

thx anyway for this guide/bild
hope u work further on it.

sry for my english, its not my native language.

GetsugaTenshou | February 23, 2011 12:30pm
man well job done my friend!!!it was an honor to try this build because xin is my main char...and it was very good i can tell!!!As i see from ur core build u play xin zhao as a full DPS only and u have to rely on ur teams tank...i ve seen that u have some situational items for more survivability but when u dont have a tank in ur team is really difficult to initiate to battle...i ve tried tons of builds on xin zhao and this period of time i use a build in order to go to initiate to battle sometimes alone because we dont have a pure tank char or just a tank to go to first line to initiate...i ve have this build and i want ur opinion
> dorans shield >bersekers >last whisper >forzen mallet >bloodrazor >bansees or force of nature or guardians or randuins(note: if i get fed early i go build bloodrazor first and go to frozen mallet)...i am thinking of doing starks frevor after last whisper or,considering the note above, bloodrazor and then frozen...What's ur opinion???..... ANYWAYS GREAT BUILD MAN +1 FROM ME .....XIN ZHAO IS A BEAST!!!

so i started xin new about a week ago and stayed totally loyal to this guide.
then i started spotting tanks and other fighter champions.
i would DEFF say that after getting the 1.8 attack speed from Battle Cry/Phantom Dancer/Zerk boots/ Cleaver, the next smartest idea is the Bloodrazor.
From personal experience it TEARS through guys like its not even funny.
i play smart and dont run in unless i know i can pull out at LEAST kill
when i have those 4 items. i run into 1v5- 2v5 and can pull out 2 maybe 3 kills, and with flash get away.
the bloodrazor gives you .4 almost .5 extra attack speed bringing you up to 2.2-2.3 wep att.
big difference.
and the 4% total health is AMAZING with that attack speed.
i love your guide, and everything you have in it. im a loyal follower. but that should def be up there.

I learned a lot of useful information from this guide, and, like you said, a defensive item or two would be very helpful for 5v5, which I primarily play. When I play a 5v5 match, I personally find that Phantom Dancer is a better early investment for the early game, since it seems to take less time to burn through the component pieces. Getting those enemies up in the air and another second or two off cooldown timers just seem to help me out a ton. It may simply be my playstyle though.

Again, it was a great help.

It can definitely work for both styles of play, but I would at get a defensive item or two for 5's. Xin is much better for 3's.

I agree that they have a very diminished use late game, but early game they can prove invaluable since you don't get your w skill until level 4. Attack speed glyphs don't give a great bonus, but that would be one of your best options.

I definitely get Stark's fervor in a situation where I have multiple physical players on my team, but oftentimes the aura is wasted if I have a team full of casters and tanks.

I think a primary difference between the build you described and mine is a style of play. I leave the initiation to tanks, as that is there job. Once the battle begins, then I can hop into the confusion with Audacious Charge and easily take out 2 or 3 enemies before the team realizes I'm in there destroying them. I don't like initiating so much, because it makes it even easier to get focused. On 3's, it's totally different because I can normally take down at LEAST one enemy before I'm killed if I recklessly charge into a group of 3. (This is late game I'm referring to)

@HIACliff

I really like your build, but i find it expensive, and also you depend on your team as you have no surviability items.

Going for ArPen + AS + CDR permits you to do really good with your skills, especially with your ultimate, all that armor penetration permits your ult to do MASSIVE DAMAGE as you engage the enemy team. Tanky Armor Penetrating Xin Zhao can initiate the fight, targetting the squishiest in the range of Audacious Charge, activating his items and obviously DEVASTATING your opponents' lives with ultimate (Armor Penetration makes the ultimate really a beast), then destroy the squishy first targetted. After you've done this, even if you die, it's really hard for your team to loose that teamfight as it's like they are 3v4, but however you shouldn't die, that's not the plan xD

And also with high surviability, if there is a skermish and you're not there when you'll come you'll kill everyone as they are probably out of mana, with half or 3/4 health etc.. Even if they are 4, or 5.

You can really be the difference between winning and loosing, you can be the man who decides the sort of the match ALONE. So i think that the ArPen Xin is really good for Solos, when you are in an arranged team that you trust than i think that you could really dominate with your build, getting protected by your teammates. But however i don't really like Triforce on Xin, i'd prefer Stark's Fervor, it helps your team too with global Armor Reduction, AS, Lifesteal. Nothing better to do more damage without fearing the death.

This is probably a very common divergence from my build. Doran's Blade is just a personal choice, and Mercury's Treads can majorly help your survivability.
