This is my first guide ever and let me tell you something about me as a player. I always play the older generation champions (I never played Karma/ Renekton or any champions produced after) but for some reason I decided to spend 6,300 IP on Yorick the day after free Yorick week ended. In the beginning I pretty much lost 3 games in a row with him with negative scores but after much theorycrafting, I was able to improve and bury all my enemies.
After playing Yorick for a dozen games I realize that he dominates his lane, whether he is solo or duo, with unbelievable sustainability and harassment due to his ranged skills (W and E).
In team fights I take the majority of the damage as a semi-tank while using my ghouls to slow and heal myself. I have found that even though I get focused in fights, I end up with nearly full hp at the end of the fight because of my ghoul.
Masteries and Runes
I chose 9-0-21 because Yorick desperately needs cooldown reduction to effectively spam his skills. For me, Yorick is more of a mage than fighter because his W and E both deal magic damage. That is why I use the 15% MR penetration mastery and marks. The yellow, blues, and quints make him tankier but you can use other runes like cool down and dodge too.
Exhaust + flash is really my preference because not only they are at the lowest cool downs because of the msateries, they really help Yorick in 1v1s and even in team fights.
Of course, you can also go ignite + flash but I feel that is not enough CC.
One reason why I am so successful with my Yorick is because I put his W and E skills on smartcast, meaning that I can activate them both pretty much at the same time. It is really helpful when you need that last second hit.
Skills : Omen Of War
This skill is pretty much Nasus' Siphon Strike. It adds a nice bonus damage and a ghoul but it's not as important as the other skills early game so I max this last. I level this at level 3 to help me last hit better because it refreshes my melee attack.
Skills : Omen of Pestilence
This skill is really useful in team fights because of the AOE slow and is similar to Singed glue because it prevents enemies from chasing you down. That is why I skill it first but make it the 2nd priority out of (QWE).
Skills: Omen of Famine
This skill is what makes Yorick such a good lane sustainer. Early game, you can pretty much heal over 60 hp by using it on a creep or a champion and since the ratio to AD is 1, it is a given to max this first.
Skills: Omen of Death
Yorick's ult is like Zilean ult except that it is much more versatile. There are many situations to use his ult.
1) Killing (tower, dragon, baron, golems) faster
2) Cloning your damage hero just as a fight is about to start to make it 6v5
3) When you get caught by enemies and your team is around the corner so that you can still be in the fight
4) Many more...
I find that these items really suit Yorick and have great synergy with manamune since a majority give mana and make him tanky. In addition, his masteries + spirit visage + frozen heart gives him 39% cooldown reduction.
