Marks: 6 armor and magic pen -> hybrid runes and 3 magic pen so you can get 6 armor and magic pen... cause maokai's auto attacks are great that way...

this build gives you a good jungle and a good laning

the items i choose are aimed to deal a lot of damage and to take even more... i tell you that if you can finish this build you deal a lot of damage and tank during 3-5min or more when you have your ulti... 1 thing that gives you a lot of surival is zhonya's in the right time

i start my item purchase with those items to give me early mana regen so i don't need to go back to often... the boots reduce the cc's, as you know, and i buy catalyst to survival in the begging...
after that i buy armor and magic resist just to tank a little more since by then you're almost lvl10 and teamfights are on... then i just do my build...

those 5 initial items bought in that order give you a lot of sustainability so you better buy them in that order instead of just finishing them 1by1

promote may sound weird but maokai is pusher so promote + solo top or something is great to push the turret in 10min and move freely after that... furthermore it gives you gold even when you're not around so give it a try... and ghost is cool to chase them when they're almost in range to snare and you can't jump for a little bit
