Hi! I am iAkeno from the OCE server as of 5/5/2017 I am top 65 with 280k zed mastery points among approximately over 100 - 200k players in the oce server.

I was level 15 and loved katarina because of how well she burst people down and then escape with her E (old katarina). My friend then told me that was going to mid next game, and showed me a new champion called Zed. That's when I first saw Zed and fell in love with it's playstyle.

Q: Zed and his shadow both throw their spinning blades forward, dealing damage to any targets they pass through. Damage reduces when it goes through more targets.
W: Zed places a shadow that stays for 4 seconds and mimicking any spells casted, Zed can reactivate to swap places with shadow
E: Zed and his shadow spin their blades, the shadow spin slows enemies.
R: Zed leaves a shadow behind and dashes to the enemy champion, marking them for death, dealing a percentage of the damage Zed has dealt while the mark was active. If target dies, Zed gets a portion of their AD.

I go cooldown instead of magic resist because it makes poking and farming very easy.

Farming with zed is not too hard as his passive makes it easy, however, when the opponent is zoning you, use your Q. Use W>E>Q to clear waves quick

Explaining combos would be too difficult to explain in words as it is very situational. I recommend watching videos from people like RedMercy who goes in depth. Montages also help!Zed Combos
Zed Montage

Always roam with Zed when gives the chance, I like to roam bot/top when level 4+ if their lanes are pushed out. By roaming and successfully getting kills, it would pressure the jungler and other laners which would affect the outcome of the game later on. It would also give you advantage against your laner when you pickup a few kills.

This would help you get away from champions with CC that can turn out lethal like Ahri
It would honestly help you against champs who has healing like Nidalee
I really love GA on Zed as it gives you a second chance basically and also has AD now
I sometimes build black cleaver on Zed as it has some nice benefits and also gives some tankiness
This would help you kill a lot of duelist and tanks in a 1 v 1 scenario
Basically, an after effect for the adc if your ult doesn't kill them already
I like this item because it gives you some tankiness, now you can help in teamfights even more
When you have to be tanky and splitpush at the same time, build this!
This might be the difference if your screen would turn grey or not!
Basically the banshee's veil but the AD version and lesser CD.
Very essential! Would help you catch up against adcs or targets with high mobility.

Teamfighting with Zed is pretty difficult against a team full of CC. Zed's teamfight strat is basically to kill the carry in an isolated place. Therefore, you have to time everything right or risk losing the game. I would normally wait for my team to engage or pick off the adc when they are very vunerable and open.

Good Champion Overall?

Yes! Zed is a great champion! So much fun to play and has so much potential to make a outplay.

Good Champions To Climb With?

Low elo, Yes! High elo, No! Basically because low elo is more mechanics wise and high elo has better game knowledge, in high elo, they would just shut Zed down with CC. Not impossible to climb with in high elo though!

Is there better mid laners?

Of course! Cass, Ori, Zyra etc etc. They have game changing ults while Zed only targets 1 person.

Everything In Summary

Zed is indeed a very interesting and fun champion to play with. However, he is made to take people out in isolated environment and I don't think you will have an easy time playing Zed in high elo. There are far way better mid laners than Zed. I recommend you pick him up but never go to him as your reliant pick. Peace!
