Hello All, I am new to the forum and I've been playing LoL for almost 2 weeks. I've hit Level 20 and I'm getting ready to purchase some runes for my Tryndamere Build. I've read countless discussions about ArPen runes vs Crit Damage runes, and I know most lean toward ArPen.

Specifically for Tryndamere (and maybe a few other champs) I want to build a full Life Steal / Crit Damage (or ArPen) Page

Quints: Life Steal (2%) x 3 = 6% / Quints: Crit Damage (4.46 x 3) = 13.38
Marks: Crit Damage (2.23 x 9) = 20.07 / Marks: ArPen (2.56 x 9) = 23.04
Seals: Crit damage (.78 x 9) = 7.02
Glyphs: Crit damage (.56 x 9) = 5.04

All Crit = 45.51
or 23.04 ArPen / 25.44 Crit damage.

Crit Damage
It seems to me that the only time this will work is when the majority of the enemy team doesn't purchase any armor type items. May be useful early on, but not as useful late game vs tanky champs

ArPen/Crit Damage
May be useful all around, but more toward mid/late game.

Any comments would be great, I'm running it through the damage calculator for more numerical data.

Tryndamere is the only champion in the game who might benefit more from crit damage, everyone else benefits from armor penetration or flat AD. Flat AD is also better on most champions because it helps you last-hit better and it does more early damage, which in turn helps you get early kills which gives you a better late-game by further ahead in gold than you would be if you'd run armor penetration runes.

AD marks > ArPen marks > crit damage marks

^Pretty much that, and Tryndamere only barely benefits from the crit damage more. Until end game, you'll probably get more damage from armor penetration or AD.

Alright, I see that Crit Runes should only be specialized for tryndamere/Ashe depending on their role. What is the opinion of Scaling AD runes? I know most of them start to show improvement by LVL 7-9 depending on their scaling. Also what would be the purpose of getting Critical Chance Runes with tryndamere?

Crit runes are really only good on Trynd like others have said, if your going for an ad page first go for falt ad or armor pen, I use flat AD right now because I'm a noob at last hitting

Armor Pen marks give 1.28 each, not 2.56.
