I know Sion takes a lot of heat cuz people are waiting on his rework, and because people complain about his combo (as AP), and because he's easily kited (as AD). Just curious, does anyone actually play him, either mid top or jungle? If so, can you let me know how you have success with him?

Every champion is viable. It's just a question of whether other champions do their job better, which is Sion's main problem. He's good to learn the game with and is above average, but is still outclassed.

What Darkon136 said everyone is viable but others just do the same job better. Or they just offer more to their team late game via having a better kit, or being able to split push/take objectives easier then others, Sion's a fun champion to play but there's a reason you don't see him being first picked or banned in ranked.

Eh. I'd personally say every champion is, on some level, functional. "Viable" would imply that they are actually good enough at what they do to be used in high level games.

Heimerdinger, for example, functions as an AP carry. He is not viable as an AP carry, however. Darius functions as a jungler, but isn't viable as one due to his low mobility, lack of true initiation, and astronomical gold requirements/mana costs.

Sion can function in several roles. There are none, however, where I would say that he is actually viable. He really only works if he gets fed (though if he does he's an absolute terror). "Needs to get fed" is a bad sign in any champion's description.

'Viable' means that you can effectively use it in solo queue. Sion can definitely work, Heimerdinger can be effective in mid, and Darius jungle works quite well. Don't know what you were smoking when you said that it isn't.

Also, as for champions that need to get fed, need I point out Riven?

Then we're working by entirely different definitions of "viable", and I'd argue that yours is so vague that it doesn't actually mean anything, since literally every champion can work. For me, "viable" means that they work consistently, and do enough things well enough that they can be used effectively in high-level games.

Again, the difference between what you're saying and what I'm saying is that you are contending that it can just work in general - in lower-level games, or can occasionally not suck too hard. Neither Heimerdinger nor Sion can do what they are supposed to do consistently enough to be viable by my definition.

Like I said, Darius is functional as a jungler. However, he has severe mana sustainability issues even when using blue buff and is one of the least mobile junglers out there. He also has no* hard engage and isn't exceptionally tanky. He can work, but he doesn't work consistently enough to be viable by my definition, since he's going to have an incredibly rough time of it if the enemy is warding sufficiently and/or has any mobility or disengage whatsoever.

I never said anything about Riven. I don't play Riven. But from what I can see, she's rather like Nocturne, where she can still work even if she doesn't get fed due to her steroids.

EDIT: *: Apprehend can work as a hard engage, but since you can render it useless just by walking away, I don't count it as such under most circumstances. Whether or not you agree, that's not really the point of my post. Just a slight clarification.

In my opinion, Sion has barely anything to offer in the current meta. I think he's best played as AP mid or jungle, but there are currently a lot of other champions that fit these roles better. I've played him top for quite a few weeks, but as soon as I got more in the game I realized that there were a lot of better options.
