‎‎ ‎ Introduction

Hello and welcome to LEC Season Finals! We're back for one final round of European competitive League of Legends as we're nearing the 2023 World Championship. As usual you can join the Fantasy Tournament at E-Go to enjoy the competition in even more ways and maybe even pick up some prizes!

If your looking for information about the Fantasy Tournament, tips on which players to pick etc, or just to get to know LoL esports and what the format of LEC Season Finals looks like, we've got you covered!

‎‎ ‎ Intro To The Fantasy Tournament

If you participated in any of our previous Fantasy Tournaments (Worlds 2022, MSI 2023, LEC Winter, Spring & Summer) you know how it works. If not, here's a quick breakdown of MOBAFire's EMEA Fantasy Tournament:

You will create a team of pro players from different teams playing in the LEC this year. You will then earn points based on the real world performance of the players you've chosen. Put together the best team you can and see how many points you can earn while you're enjoying the LEC. Some frequently asked questions and our answers for you...:

📋 Which players should I choose?

That’s something that this article should hopefully help you with! Essentially, you’re meant to pick players that you think are going to do well in the LEC Season Finals. You earn points when the player you’ve chosen has gotten a kill, an assist, has killed a minion, and you lose points when the player has died. Additionally, you’ll earn points when the player’s team destroys a turret, kills the Dragon or Baron Nashor, achieves First Blood, and, naturally, when the team wins a game.

Sounds tempting to just pick up every player from the historically most dominating team, right? Well, there are two restrictions to keep in mind:

  • You may only have up to two players from each time. Unfortunately, it won't be as easy as just grabbing every single G2 or Fnatic player; you'll need to diversify!
  • Cost - each player is assigned a certain cost and you will only have $1000 to spend in total. This also forces you to diversify and mix ‘n’ match players from different teams and of different costs.

💰 What are the prizes?
  • 1st place: $500 USD
  • 2nd Place: $300 USD
  • 3rd Place: $200 USD

‎‎ ‎ Intro To The Season Finals Format

The majority of the LEC season, the 3 splits of Winter, Spring and Summer have wrapped up. The Season Finals are the culmination of a whole year of LEC competition. Our 6 best performing teams throughout the year will participate in a bracket of Bo5s for chance to become the LEC Grand Champion. That's not all, since the 2023 World Championship (or Worlds in short) is right around the corner. Worlds qualification is all decided during Season Finals as well. Every series counts!

So who qualified? First of all, the winners of each split, G2 (Winter & Summer) and MAD Lions (Spring), have automatically qualified for Season Finals. The other participants qualified because of Championship Points. Each team got awarded a certain amount of points based on their final standing each split. Important to note is that Summer split granted a higher amount of points than Winter or Spring, to make sure our current best performing teams can represent the region at Worlds. Team BDS, EXCEL, Fnatic and SK Gaming will join G2 and MAD through their Championship Points.

Click here for the full distribution of Championship Points.

So now let's take a look at the bracket. G2 and MAD start in the upper bracket as split champions. The teams with 3rd and 4th most Championship Points, BDS and XL, will also start in the upper bracket. G2 got to choose their opponents as 1st team and have opted into facing BDS in the first round. MAD will face XL.

Fnatic and SK, 5th and 6th on points respectively, will start in the lower bracket. Lose one series and they're out. They will face the losers of the upper bracket matches, with Fnatic getting the lower seeded opponent.

Any team can go to Worlds by winning at least 1 series. Top 3 teams qualify directly for the main event, while the 4th placed team will play a Bo5 vs NA LCS' 4th seed, Golden Guardians for the final ticket to Worlds. However please note that the victorious 4th seed will start their Worlds run in the play-in stage. I have edited LEC's graph to clarify which rounds need to be reached in order to secure a certain seed at Worlds.

Top 4
Top 4 is guaranteed. They will at the very least play in the Worlds Qualifier vs LCS' Golden Guardians for a chance at Worlds Play-ins as LEC's 4th seed.
Top 3
Top 3 is guaranteed. They will represent LEC at Worlds Main Stage as 3rd seed minimum.
Top 2
Top 2 is guaranteed. They will represent LEC at Worlds Main Stage as 2nd seed minimum. LEC Grand Champion will be 1st seed, runner-up 2nd seed.

‎‎ ‎ LEC Team Breakdown

We've long gotten accustomed to these teams already, but here is a short overview of our 6 teams participating in the Season Finals. 3 or 4 of them will make it to Worlds. But only 1 of them will be crowned the King of EMEA...

‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
G2 Esports
.BrokenBlade
.Yike
.Caps
.Hans Sama
.Mikyx
Winter: 1st
Spring: 4th
Summer: 1st
Can anyone best G2? The Winter and Summer champion looks to be head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. Every player can carry games and since Spring and a decent MSI performance they have become even more stable as a team. As long as G2 does not overcook with spicy drafts, there is no doubt they are in pole position to win the Season Finals.
‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
MAD Lions
.Chasy
.Elyoya
.Nisqy
.Carzzy
.Hylissang
Winter: 2nd
Spring: 1st
Summer: 7th
It's a mystery how MAD will show up on Saturday. After the victory in Spring, their MSI and Summer split were massive disappointments for MAD and with other teams ramping up recently, it's not sure whether MAD can return to the international stage. When MAD does fire on all cilinders though, they are a force to be reckoned with. The talent and experience to contest a Worlds spot is most certainly there, but will they return to form in time?
‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
Team BDS
.Adam
.Sheo
.nuc
.Crownie
.Labrov
Winter: 7th
Spring: 2nd
Summer: 5th
BDS had a remarkable 2nd place in Spring, just one game away from the trophy and MSI. In Winter and Summer they failed to make big waves, though last split they were rather unlucky in their Group draw as they faced both G2 and an in-form Team Heretics in those crucial Bo3s. Either way BDS is a team that can contend with the best when the meta suits them like in Spring. Though they have the tough task of facing G2 in the first round, so a strong start and good meta read will be crucial to make it to Worlds.
‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
Excel Esports
.Odoamne
.Peach
.Abbedagge
.Patrik
.LIMIT
Winter: 10th
Spring: 10th
Summer: 2nd
It's been a huge turnaround by XL. No one really expected them to make it to Season Finals after finishing 10th twice. Still this new roster found new success. First with straightforward comps, but eventually finding success with different approaches. Through their good macro they were the only team to really challenge G2 last split. The lost final was harsh, but most importantly they're here now. One more Bo5 win and this fairytale could have a happy ending.
‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
Fnatic
.Oscarinin
.Razork
.Humanoid
.Noah
.Trymbi
Winter: 9th
Spring: 8th
Summer: 3rd
It's also been a tough year for Fnatic, but gradually things got better. Bringing in Oscarinin and more recently Noah and Trymbi really revitalized the team. All the additions to the lineup have been successful and with Humanoid and especially Razork also showing better performances, this is a scary team coming into the Season Finals. Fnatic are one of the mainstays at Worlds, and this roster shouldn't aim for any less, although they are starting in the lower bracket.
‎‎‏‏‎ ‎
SK Gaming
.Irrelevant
.Markoon
.Sertuss
.Exakick
.Doss
Winter: 4th
Spring: 7th
Summer: 6th
SK has been okay throughout the year, with their main accomplishment being 4th place in Winter, though a bit inconsistent. Somewhat surprisingly they've been able to keep teams with bigger names like Vitality and KOI behind them, which does say something. This young squad is starting as 6th seeded team, so they will have a tough road ahead of them if they want to make Worlds. They most certainly have the potential to upset though. Remember, they have a winning record over Fnatic this year...

Obviously the team to beat remains G2. All of their players have pretty consistently shown a high level. Mainly the botlane, Hans Sama and Mikyx have been a terrifying duo. The latter especially looks like the frontrunner to become the 2023 LEC MVP. Not only the botlane, but BrokenBlade as well is coming off a great split. Ever since MSI he's been in great form. Beware of the 'Topfather'. Credit where it's due for XL too. They did the impossible to qualify for Season Finals and a lot of it is on the back of Odoamne. One of the most experienced players in the league, and he showed up big when it mattered the most. Not just on tanks, but also on carries like his signature Rumble. On the other side of the map XL could always rely on Patrik, back in form after a rough first half of the year. No titles just yet, but Worlds qualification would be well deserved for one of our longtime great botlaners. He will have to compete with the new kid on the block though. Noah made a spectacular entrace to the LEC. In just one split he has been topping KDA, DPM and CSPM rankings like he's been playing on Fnatic for years.
You can't really go wrong with any of these players for your fantasy team!

Cheaper Options (<$195)

TOP LANE
Irrelevant
SK Gaming
$191

JUNGLE
Razork
Fnatic
$194

JUNGLE
Sheo
Team BDS
$186
MID LANE
Abbedagge
EXCEL
$192

MID LANE
Nisqy
MAD Lions
$192

SUPPORT
Trymbi
Fnatic
$184

Fnatic didn't win the split, but that shouldn't take anything away from Razork's fantastic split. Especially when given carry picks and resources he shown the ability to completely take over games. It can't be coincidence that Razork's form massively improved when Trymbi joined Fnatic. The Polish support shotcalls, forms a great duo with Noah despite the language barrier, and all while putting up great individual performances himself. It's still surprising that KOI let him go so easily.

Alongside them in this list we have a former Fnatic player, MAD Lions' Nisqy. Even considering MAD's lackluster Summer performance, one cannot deny Nisqy had a great year so far. All his work effort has finally culminated in an LEC title, but no doubt he'll only be satisfied if he and MAD bounce back and qualify for Worlds. In order to do that he'll first has to get past Abbedagge (Fakerdagge), one of the standouts of Summer split and a huge part of XL's resurgence. After 2 years on 100 Thieves in NA, he has already made Worlds twice, and now he's looking for another appearance with XL.

Apart from the more experienced players, there's also plenty of young players hungry for their first international experience. Irrelevant has quietly been one of the best and most consistent toplaners in the LEC ever since his debut a year and a half ago. Even though he's not as flashy as Exakick or Sertuss, this man is probably the most valuable asset of SK. Similarly Sheo has been the quiet force behind 2023 BDS. A very smart jungler who always puts his laners before himself.
If you are on a budget, these players are most certainly worth a look for your fantasy teams!

‎‎ ‎ Fantasy Tournament Tips & Tricks

.
Assign the right captain. Captains will earn you 1.5x more points across the board, so do a little research once you've assembled your team to figure out which player should be made captain. In general, bot laners followed by top and midlaners tend to make great captains, as they tend to garner the most kills and creep score across the games. Supports, on the other hand, may be a bigger gamble because they are comparatively weaker which could spell dying a lot.
.
.
Choose teams that you predict will do well. Sounds obvious, but basically, you'll earn points if your fantasy players' teams win. Moreover, if your fantasy player is on a team that keeps losing, they'll probably not be able to deliver on fantastic stats. It's a lot harder to not die when your whole team is losing inhibitors by the 15th minute mark. There are players that tend to do well even on underperforming teams, but make sure to have at least a few players on your roster that are on winning teams.
.
.
If you do end up in a situation where you've selected and captained a player that, against all odds, is now eliminated from the tournament, you can always sell them. You have one sell token per stage, so this is a precious resource and you should treat it this way though. Beware that this is a knockout tournament, you could be in a situation where several of your players have been eliminated, so let your sell token count!
.
.
Invest more $$ on bot lane and top or midlane. As mentioned previously, these are the key roles when it comes to KDA. You won't be able to purchase five $200+ cost players, so focus your funds on bot lane > .... > supports. While supports can have great KDAs, and often do, most of the supports cost less than $200 and are actually fantastic. This is one category where it's totally okay to go low and not feel like you're missing out at all.

‎‎ ‎ Week 1 Preview

📺 Saturday 4 PM GMT - MAD Lions vs EXCEL

VS

XL could qualify for Worlds for the first time in the org's history, but the MAD Lions are hungry for revenge after their disappointing Summer split. These teams only recently faced each other, in their first Bo3 of Summer. XL won that series 2-0 and from that point on people starting realising this team might actually be able to make a decent run... Now XL is no longer the underdog. Will they be able to deal with the pressure, or will the momentum shift in MAD's favour? We know how high that team's ceiling is. It is bound to be an interesting series either way, hopefully both sides come out with their best form.

📺 Sunday 4 PM GMT - G2 Esports vs Team BDS

VS

On paper this should be just another day in the office for G2. They chose BDS as their opponent, so anything but a convincing victory would be a disappointment. Maybe BDS can put strength out of the underdog role and punish G2's potential overconfidence. If BDS can go back to the way they played in Spring, this could become a much closer series than one would predict. It would be fantastic for Team BDS to win vs G2 and qualify for the Worlds Main Stage in only their 2nd year in the LEC. They will have to play better and more consistent than during Summer however, and G2 is a terrifying opponent...
