‎‎ ‎ Introduction

Welcome back once again, fellow LEC enthusiasts! We are more than halfway through the regular season of the 2023 Summer Split of the LEC, and things have taken a drastic turn. G2 Esports and Fnatic are back at the top like in the old days of the league, and meanwhile some of the teams predicted to be the best in the league are sitting at the bottom.

In this article we'll be going over last week's games, taking a look at the Fantasy leaderboards, and briefly chatting about what we can expect from the games coming up this weekend.

‎‎ ‎ Fantasy Leaderboards

darkcat is currently at the top of the leaderboards with a team that could win the LEC themselves. This fantasy coach has managed to snag two members of MAD Lions and two G2 members, as well as Fnatic's new ADC who's proven he's more than worth his cost. darkcat has accumulated 351.2 points so far, nearly 80 points above the average, and based on the current standings he'll be able to keep raking the points in!

For the first time in a long time, Fnatic is back at the top of the standings, alongside their longtime rivals G2 Esports. The two teams have already faced off, and while Fnatic couldn't best G2, they've been outperforming every other opponent, and the rest of their schedule is looking great. On Saturday, Fnatic will play team BDS, followed by Team Heretics, and finally SK Gaming on Monday. With the performances they've shown thus far, Fnatic is looking like they could easily be ending their season with an amazing 8-1 score. G2 Esports is looking fantastic as ever, and, barring that one happy Neeko game, have not shown any signs of slowing down or letting up. Both teams have locked group stage.

Third place is being shared by the MAD Lions and Team Heretics, who were both squarely at the top with 3-0 scores in week 1. After a phenomenal week 1, Team Heretics had two quite surprising losses this week; one against the previously 0-3 EXCEL, and one against KOI, who weren't doing so hot themselves. Heretics managed to round out the week with a one against Team BDS, so they're still nearly guaranteed to make it to the group stage. The MAD Lions also unexpectedly lost to EXCEL, and they were also bested by the new roster of Fnatic. That said, they performed reasonably well and fans should have no worry that they'll make it to the group stage and beyond.

EXCEL has jumped from dead last and prospectless, to 5th place with a respectable score of 3-3. Was it because of an easy schedule? Not at all, EXCEL beat the two 1st place teams of MAD Lions and Team Heretics, as well as BDS, who, though slumping right now, were 2nd place in Spring. Unfortunately, team EXCEL has more hurdles to jump, as this final week of the regular season they'll have to face G2 Esports, Team Vitality, and Astralis. Honestly, nobody would've guessed they could go 3-0 this week, so there's a good shot they can defeat the currently last place Vitality and team Astralis and make it to groups for the first time in 2023. Everyone loves an underdog story, so let's get a good one!

Four teams are tied 6th with 2-4 scores to their names; SK Gaming, Astralis, KOI, and Team BDS. All of these teams have made it to the group stage in 2023 but this year there's a chance some may not. Team BDS in particular has had a surprisingly poor split so far and they have a very tough schedule ahead of them. They play Fnatic, Vitality, and MAD Lions in week 3 and will need to get every win they can to secure the group stage and hopefully change things for the better. Of all of these 2-4 teams, Astralis might have the best shot of securing a good spot in the standings as their schedule is the most lenient - they'll play SK Gaming, EXCEL, and KOI in the upcoming week.

Finally, in last place, we have Team Vitality. A huge surprise for sure, considering the names that are on this lineup. Things are bleak but not hopeless, as the team's upcoming schedule is not very tough. They'll need to beat two 2-4 teams (KOI and BDS) and team EXCEL, which is still a bit of a question mark right now. Team Vitality has during these past few days decided to substitute their jungler, Bo, for their academy jungler, Daglas. Abrupt mid-season changes don't tend to work so well, but we'll see what this young jungler can bring to the team in the coming weeknd, as it's do or die for Vitality in the regular split!

🏁 Game One

The first game of the second week of the Summer Split in the LEC took place on Saturday between SK Gaming and Team BDS. In Winter, these two teams were making waves by defeating some of our best teams. In Summer, both teams have been struggling greatly, and, at 1-2, both were itching for a win. First Blood was taken by Sheo as he ganked the mid lane at level 3, meanwhile Irrelevant secured a solo kill in the top lane and SK's bot lane killed Labrov in a 2v2. Things came to a head for the first time at the 15th minute mark as BDS snagged the Rift Herald. Markoon thought he found the perfect moment for a Flash Cyclone, but instead BDS were able to take 4 kills and secure a huge lead. BDS continued to focus on objectives, and less than 10 minutes later, they had four dragons, the Chemtech Soul, and Baron Nashor as well. With all of these buffs stacked up, it was only a matter of time before BDS won that final team fight and took down SK's base, securing their second win of the split.

🏁 Game Two

In our next game, it was a battle between first and last place. Everyone expected a clean game from Team Heretics, who started off on the right foot by securing First Blood in the mid lane. Top lane, Odoamne was styling on Evi, grabbing a solo kill 11 minutes in, and one beforehand with a little bit of help from Peach. By the time the first large team fight erupted, XL had a strong K'Sante and Azir, and TH had a powerful Draven. XL secured the second drake as LIMIT decided to hook Evi into the clutches of his team. Though the Nautilus was burst down rather quickly, the Renekton was as well, and TH found themselves scrambled in retreat. Abbedagge chased and killed Vetheo down, while the rest of the team cleaned up in the mid lane, overall securing four kills for one in favour of EXCEL. Soon after, XL was able to take down the Baron Nashor uncontested, and in the ensuing fight kill two and take down the inner middle turret. One more team fight was all they needed to ace Team Heretics and take down the Nexus, 27 minutes in, securing their very first win of the split.

🏁 Game Three

Fnatic and KOI swapped supports in the off-season, and we were getting to see who got the better deal in the next game. Appropriately, Trymbi was on fire this game, securing an early kill onto Comp in the bot lane and executing some super flashy Rakan plays and multimembers charms. Humanoid and Razork also had excellent games, the latter having 5 kills 20 minutes in and smite-stealing the Rift Herald away from KOI 10 minutes in. Fnatic continued to have excellent objective control, and gave little leeway for KOI in terms of kills either. After a super clean game, Fnatic was able to secure the Cloud Drake 29 minutes in and win one last team fight before they took down KOI's base.

🏁 Game Four

Just a few weeks back this match-up would be a match-of-the-week but Team Vitality has had a pretty poor showing so far, and G2 has, barring one little Neeko misplay, been performing super well in Summer. As such, expectations were that G2 would win this game without trouble. The game was slow, and First Blood wasn't taken until 9 minutes in as Bo engaged onto Caps in the mid lane. Luckily, Yike and the G2 bot lane were on standby, and what started as a great catch for Vitality turned into First Blood was G2 Esports as Perkz was taken down. Fifteen minutes in, G2 suddenly had five kills, a 3k gold lead, and two Dragons under their belt. It looked like Vitality could've turned things around as Baron spawned, however. They were able to catch Mikyx out and hoped to win a 4v5. Unfortunately, Yike and Caps were a little bit too strong by this point, and Vitality lost 4 for 2 in the ensuing fight, as well as the first Baron of the game. After that the gap grew a bit too wide, and G2 were able to end the game 25 minutes in, with an 11k gold lead.

🏁 Game Five

The following game was slow, until it wasn't. Eight minutes into the game, MAD were trying to sneakily grab the Rift Herald. Astralis' team rolled up and 113 was able to steal the Herald, and then some. Elyoya was taken down by 113, and Chasy couldn't escape from the blinking Akali or Kai'Sa either. MAD was able to turn the game around shortly as they caught JeongHoon in the top side jungle, and took two more as members of Astralis desperately tried to get something in return for that death. In spite of the great start, pretty soon one thing was clear, the Akali pick was going to be problematic for Astralis. She would need to pierce her way to the Xayah, who has her ultimate, by going through Poppy, Wukong, Gragas, and Rakan - all four champions practically made for denying assassins. Though Astralis was able to secure a few more kills, they had no way of winning a team fight against this sort of MAD lineup, and the Lions remained undefeated.

🏁 Game One

The first game of the day would be a super back-and-forth match between EXCEL and BDS. XL had managed to get their first win yesterday, and today's game would show if that was a fluke or the start of something beautiful for their lineup. Meanwhile BDS was still floundering and hoping to get back to their Spring form. Initially, BDS was in the lead, managing to collect two kills early on for Adam. However, as the game went along, XL had much better objective control, and they secured their third dragon 18 minutes in.

LIMIT initiated the first of the larger skirmishes about 22 minutes in by hooking in Labrov. BDS turned it around and were able to secure Baron Nashor shortly after, but in their retreat they lost Crownie and Adam. Now a 5v3, it was XL who were able to push the waves and secure the inner mid lane turret before collecting the Ocean Soul. From here on things got very messy. XL got the next Baron, but BDS was able to get three members down and secure the Elder Dragon soon after in spite of a 6k gold deficit. Another Baron went by in the favour of XL, and then another Elder Dragon spawned as well. It looked like BDS was going to get it, but Peach stole it away and it was then that XL could finally finish BDS off.

🏁 Game Two

Team Vitality were hoping to climb up in the standings after a rough first week and they were facing off against Astralis. LIDER picked Yasuo and Finn and JeongHoon picked two great engagers who should help with LIDER's Last Breath. Meanwhile, Vitality was able to secure the hotly contested Zeri, K'Sante and Neeko picks. First Blood went into Vitality's favour as Bo started to rack up kills on Nocturne. After these two kills, the game slowed down, and there weren't any more kills until the 20th minute mark. Finn and 113 engaged on Perkz, but between Neeko's slipperiness, Lulu, and Upset in the backline, they weren't able to secure a kill. Now on the retreat, Vitality was able to take down two and then take Baron and Ocean Drake as well. Just as the Nashor buff was expiring, another fight erupted as 113 and LIDER were able to catch Photon solo pushing in the top lane. Some of Vitality was nearby, but Astralis was faster, and in the ensuing fight Astralis was able to ace Vitality and get three kills onto Kobbe.

Astralis equalised the gold then and over the next few minutes established a 3k gold lead, but then another fight turned things back around for Vitality. Perkz, transformed as Nocturne, was able to unleash his Pop Blossom and knock up four members of Astralis, eventually killing three. It looked like it would all be down to one final fight, with the game being 30 minutes in, and that fight was for Ocean Soul. Astralis engaged the Dragon, and Bo engaged under the cover of Nocturne's Darkness just as the Soul was secured. Bo found himself in the middle of three members of Astralis and began to retreat, but meanwhile Finn and LIDER flanked the rest of Vitality from behind. Astralis decimated Vitality's lineup, leaving only Photon alive, but not even K'Sante could defend his base against four members of Astralis, and they took the win.

🏁 Game Three

Next up, KOI and Team Heretics battled it out. First Blood went to Larssen who picked an unorthodox Tristana mid lane, with a little help from Malrang. After a couple more kills the game stagnated a bit until a fight occurred as Team Heretics tried to grab Baron 21 minutes in. The Heretics were forced to back off the Baron, but that only led to worse things for KOI. Jankos unleashed a Twisted Advance, rooting three members of KOI who were separated from Malrang and Larssen. While Szygenda was able to Flash away, two were down on KOI's side and now Baron only looked sweeter. In return, KOI was able to get their third Drake, though Heretics denied them the Infernal Soul 27 minutes in. KOI was able to take the next Nashor though, as they killed Mersa in the top side jungle and were able to take Baron uncontested.

Once again KOI prepared to fight for the Infernal Drake, now imbued with Baron's buff. Evi engaged onto Szygenda who was trying to keep TH away from the pit, but KOI rushed to assist. Mersa was killed, and KOI returned to the Dragon, but Jankos was able to walk up and steal it. Even though KOI lost the Infernal Drake again, they still had Baron buff, and put their minions to work taking down bot and middle inner turrets. Just before their third attempt at taking the Infernal Soul was about to happen, KOI was able to end the game instead as Szygenda 1v1'd and killed Vehteo in their base. Heretics desperately tried to fight KOI to defend their Nexus turrets but, one member down, it was impossible; and KOI took the game home.

🏁 Game Four

In the penultimate game of the day, G2 Esports faced off against SK Gaming. Though this seems like it should've been an easy game for one of the top teams in the LEC, SK gave G2 a run for their money. SK Gaming came out of the early game 7 kills to nill, with an exceptionally strong Gwen and Azir, while G2 was scrambling to keep up in experience and gold best that they could. G2 got their first kill only 20 minutes in, as Yike was able to root three with Twisted Advance close to G2's turret. Even though they took Sk's support and mid laner, they lost four in return, and SK took Baron. It all changed 27 minutes in as G2 was able to catch Irrelevant on the wrong side of the mid lane and advance towards the second Baron Nashor. Now, after Baron and a big bounty secured, G2 were suddenly only 1k gold in deficit, in spite of an 8 kill difference, and Hans Sama was looking fierce. 32 minutes in, G2 were able to deny SK the Dragon Soul and secure three kills. Now only two members strong, Sk couldn't do anything but watch as G2 poured into their base and secured the win against all odds.

🏁 Game Five

The still-undefeated MAD Lions would take on Fnatic in the final Sunday game. To start things off, Oscarinin snagged a solo bolo First Blood in the top lane, while Razork ganked bot lane and got Noah his first kill of the game. These two continued to snowball, and Noah was 4-0 20 minutes in as Fnatic took the first Baron Nashor of the game. By the 25th minute mark, Noah had only grown stronger, and Fnatic had established a nearly 10k gold lead over MAD Lions, who were scrambling to stay in the game. After taking a second Nashor, FNC pushed out top lane, won one more team fight, and cleanly closed out the game against the current #1 team.

🏁 Game One

After a disappointing 0-2 week, Team Heretics were hoping to salvage the weekend by defeating Team BDS on Monday. In an extended 2v2 fight, TH were able to secure First Blood for Jankos in the top lane, and Vetheo roamed up to get a kill as well. In the bot lane, what started as a 4v2 from the side of BDS turned into four kills for Team Heretics thanks to a devastating Pop Blossom from Vetheo and a very thirsty Viego. Team Heretics maintained this lead until the 18th minute mark when, after taking the Chemtech Drake, they were beset upon by Agresivoo and lost two. In spite of this, TH were still well ahead and could take Baron Nashor moments later uncontested. 28 minutes in, TH was able to secure the Infernal Soul and swiftly take Baron too. At that point, BDS' fate was as good as sealed. The Heretics pushed out bot lane and took down three more before taking the Nexus.

🏁 Game Two

EXCEL were on a hot streak and hoping to end the week 3-0, but to do so they'd have to defeat the 4-1 MAD Lions, which would be no easy feat. MAD took control of the early game and were 4-1 by the tenth minute mark, but that's about when things started to turn for EXCEL. Peach joined his bot lane in tower diving a solo Chasy in the bot lane, and even though Abbedagge was teleporting in to assist as well, Nisqy used Destiny to try to help his top laner. Chasy died quickly and then Nisqy found himself alone between four members of XL, and was put down as well. To make matters worse, both kills went to Patrik who was on Draven.

Ten minutes later, XL started the Nashor after they killed Hylissang, but, miraculously, Carzzy was able to steal the Baron with an auto-attack. The gold lead now leaned in MAD's favour, and they were able to win a team fight at the 26th minute mark, finding that they now have a fed Wukong in addition to a strong Jinx. MAD took two Nashors and denied the Mountain Drake from EXCEL before they found themselves in XL's base and started to assail the Nexus Turrets, with only two members alive to defend. However, two is all XL needed, as somehow Peach and Odoamne were able to push MAD back, eventually grabbing three crucial kills and then taking the Baron Nashor. EXCEL wasted no time as they pushed into MAD's base and after a very close fight, XL was able to come out on top and secure an amazing 3-0 week against all odds.

🏁 Game Three

G2 Esports and Astralis played next, with the latter being able to grab some incredible picks with K'Sante, Neeko, Zeri, and Yuumi all on their team. G2 drafted Kog'Maw bot lane for the second time this week. Finn was able to take First Blood top lane, and secured a second kill shortly after as Yike showed up a little too late to try to save BrokenBlade. Astralis was also able to grab the Rift Herald, Chemtech Dragon, and a couple more kills in other lanes. Suffice it to say, Astralis had the early game down pat, but G2 started to turn things around come the 20th minute mark. They were able to take down Finn and take a Dragon, and with the small gold lead they developed, they started to take more. 24 minutes in, G2 was able to take Baron Nashor completely uncontested, and they suddenly found themselves having a 6k gold lead. They took full advantage of the Baron buff and were able to close out the game through top lane, just 27 minutes into the game, as though they were never behind at all.

🏁 Game Four

With EXCEL stonks soaring high, SK Gaming was suddenly dangerously close to missing the group stage and every win became even more necessary. Though the action started early, the game was actually very slow, and there's only been 4 kills even 20 minutes in, with the gold being dead even as well. Even 30 minutes in, the teams were still going blow for blow, with a 1k gold lead for KOI though SK was leading in turrets and Dragons. It was at the 32nd mark that SK secured Baron and started to create a more sizable lead. They were able to push out mid lane and catch Larssen, leaving KOI a man down to defend their base against SK who still had a minute on their Baron buff. Unfortunately for KOI, it just wasn't possible, and SK took their second win of the Split, now tying with KOI with a score of 2-4.

🏁 Game Five

Week 2 was rounded off with a game between Fnatic and Team Vitality. If Vitality was to lose this game, they'd find themselves squarely in last place, so the pressure was on. Unfortunately, Vitality started off on the wrong foot, and Bo was killed just as minions spawned, the killing going to Noah. This was the first of many deaths for Bo sadly, and meanwhile Fnatic was stacking advantage onto advantage, so that they had 11 kills and were 4k ahead by minute 15. While this was not the fastest game of the weekend, it was one of the most one-sided ones. Vitality got 4 kills and a couple of dragons, but were otherwise totally demolished by the Fnatic lineup, who closed out the game in 32 minutes, with an 11k gold lead.
