Soul Fighter 2023 - All things coming for the Summer Event

Two champion releases (Naafiri is here), new exclusive game modes (2v2v2v2), mini-games, skins in four titles (LoL, Wild Rift, TFT, and LoR), and much more coming in this year’s Summer Event - Soul Fighter edition.

Every year there are two big defining events in League of Legends and the Runeterran titles. If we talk in terms of competitiveness it is the World Championship, and in the case of special events in-game, it has to be the Summer ones.

Last year in Summer we got the Star Guardians 2022, an event that featured one of the most epic anime cinematic along with one of the best looking skins across most titles. And while last year was fine, Riot is setting the bar high by making things bigger in this year's Soul Fighter Event.

To mention a few things coming, champion releases to both League of Legends and Wild Rift (LoL Mobile version), a ton of cosmetics across four titles (LoL, Wild Rift, TFT, and LoR), and this is not including the new game modes (the awaited 2v2v2v2 mode) with their own unique narrative experiences.

To make it easier to navigate there are going to be different sections to each of the titles included in the event, so you can read the ones you’re interested in first. Let’s jump into the changes.

Our third MOBAFire Season 13 Mini-Guide has just started. Participate for a chance of winning up to 200$ in prizes (Total prizes are $1,150), and be part of the biggest community for guides in League of Legends. Check here to find out the details of the contest.

League of Legends

Soul Fighter Skins, Arena, and Naafiri is coming

After months of waiting (and teasers), Naafiri is finally coming to the game. You can learn more about the pack and everything about her in this entry. What you can expect from her? A fresh take in the assassin role and one of the best junglers mid laner to learn the game.

Talking about new stuff, Arena is the name of the long-awaited 2v2v2v2 mode. The new game mode right now is gaining a lot of traction among content creators and players, despite being only on the PBE servers for a few days. More details about the already popular game mode are below.

League of Legends Meets TFT and Arena Fighters

With the announcer's voice who welcomes each round seems taken from from Marvel Vs Capcom 2, or an MMA match, we have this hype mode that revolves entirely around four teams of two fighting each other in 2 v 2 matches until one team gets crowned as the victor.

What you can expect from this new game?

  • Quick pace – Each match takes around 15 minutes on average
  • New and Funky Effects with Augments – Much like in Teamfight Tactics, the Soul Fighters' augments will bring unique effects to each game, creating opportunities for whacky builds and duo combos never seen in League before.
  • Every round feels unique with the different maps – With cameos of the Soul Fighter champions, and different environments (One of them has a section full of brushes and Naafiri hounds)
  • Unique Set of Items – Even Hextech Gunblade is making a return
  • Competitive and casual – Instant queue after elimination and fun interactions for casual players to enjoy, and a ranked system to reward the more tryhard players.

This game mode should be up during the event that will take part from Thursday, 20th July to Monday, August 28th. To learn all the details on how to play this game mode, items, augments, and all, you can read this entry.

Narrative and Meta Game

Naafiri Splash Art

Last but not least, there’s going to be a special in-client meta-game mode called Tournament of Souls, protagonized by Samira.

The mode is a style-rating-focused combo-battler playing as Samira, you will gain Reputation by playing games of LoL, which in turn allows you to face new opponents and unlock new abilities for Samira to progress further in the tournament.

Much like every game pass, you will gain rewards after beating milestones (Champs) with Samira in the tournament. Once you finish the normal mode, you’ll unlock the Story and Expert difficulty levels, on the story itself we still don’t have many details.

Teamfight Tactics – Soul Brawl mode, Soul Fighter Gwen, Tournament of Souls Arena, and the Choncc Dome

In the Soul Fighter event you are going to be able to play a new temporary game mode named Soul Brawl. This mode has two phases, Training and Tournament, where the winner of the final best-of-three encounter will be crowned as the champion.

Soul Fighter Gwen is the Chibi for the Treasure Realm

Now talking about Tacticians and Little Legends Species. The Soul Fighter features Gwen as the brand new Chibi along with her mythic Soul Fighter Gwen (Available in the Treasure Realm when live). On the Little Legend Species side, we are getting Khaat’Sai.

Lastly, the new arena is called Tournament of Souls, the main stage of the entire Soul Fighter event where all of the fights are gonna be showcased. And the narrative experience will be the Choncc Dome, where Champions and Tacticians will team up to prepare for the Tournament of Souls.

League of Legends: Wild Rift – Soul Fighter, Tag Duel, In-Client Narrative experience and Minigame

For the goodies coming to Wild Rift, we need to start with the skins, Soul Fighter Draven looks perfectly fitting in the Soul Fighter universe with his art looking fresh.

Soul Fighter Draven

The Special edition skin is Soul Fighter Draven

Much like in League’s case, Wild Rift is going to have an exclusive temporary game mode but wildly different from the 2v2v2v2 Arena experience.

List of Champions receiving a skin in

  • Soul Fighter Nilah
  • Soul Fighter Draven
  • Soul Fighter Yasuo
  • Soul Fighter Irelia
  • Soul Fighter Xin Zhao
  • and Soul Fighter Draven (Special Edition)

Tag Duel

1V1 duels against three champions at the same time? Kind of, that’s the unique aspect in the new temporary game mode called Tag Duel that will allow you to change between the three champions you select, as long as they are off cooldown. The first player to reach four kills will emerge victorious.

So if you aren’t happy with your teammates not playing well Katarina when you CC targets, you can take matters into your own hands.

In case you are fond of fighting games such as Tekken Tag Tournament or the series Marvel Vs Capcom, you should  have a blast with this new mode.

In-Game Narrative Experience and Minigame

In the story mode, you are going to be playing from the perspective of Draven and Yasuo as they battle in the Tournament of Souls. There is going to be also an exclusive in-client game mode which you can access for the Soul Fighter event tab.

In a recent video from the Wild Rift team, they have shared much more details you can watch the video below.

Legends of Runeterra

Last but not least, Legends of Runeterra is getting a few sets of cosmetics along with a new Event Pass to commemorate the Tournament of Souls. Although the new expansion Heart of the Huntress just released recently, with Nidalee, Neeko and the Poro King, the new Soul Fighter event is going to add an extra spice to your games with their special skins animations, emotes, and card backs.

Nidalee Card Back

Nidalee is receiving two card backs in this new expansion

Champions getting a Skin: Nidalee (Epic), Viego (Epic), Sett (Epic), Samira (Rare), Jhin (Rare), Gwen (Rare), Pyke (Rare), and Evelynn.

And in the patch notes from LoR new expansion, we just learned a little more about who runs the tournament.

“Choose your champion and channel your soul power in Viego’s world-famous Tournament of Souls.”

Narrative and Mini Game Wild Rift

Leveled-up Soul Fighter Viego

The Event inspired by the best things from the world of fighting games and anime tournament arcs, like the Dark Tournament of YuYu Hakusho (If you know, you know), is going to be one to remember for years. Especially, after allegations of players talking about the lack of effort done by Riot to take care of their main IP.

We can expect this event to prove the doubters wrong, and give us a full month of excitement from July 20th to August 28th, until then you can check our latest News entries about the several updates coming in the Soul Fighter event.
