Had a question about peoples climbs in season 6

Hey so I was gold in season 5 and my placements put me in silver 3 and i've been having a really hard time climbing out of silver. most of my friends that were gold in s5 already made it back to gold. I keep winning and losing but never making it to a promo. i feel like i want to blame my team since i always go positive and gank well, and all it takes is one lane to feed and ruin the game but maybe its me? has everyone elses climbs been harder than normal? should i stop solo queuing and go with a group? whats the best group number you think?

My climb has been slightly harder than usual, and by slightly, I mean that instead of hovering around low diamond 3 like I was at the end of last season, i'm hovering around mid - high diamond 4 instead, so not that big of a difference.

Someone on the league is legends subreddit brought up a really good philosophy, called the 30-40-30 rule, which states that sounds 30% of your games are unwinnable, 30 % of your games you'll win no matter what, and 40% of your games you have it within you to win.

The numbers themselves are arbitrary, but the important thing to take away from this is that you aren't doing enough to really press that 40%. be more critical of your own game play. Trust me, if you're in silver you're making a lot of mistakes no matter what. Look back at your own gameplay and try to find your mistakes, and then explore ways to fix them. It could be possible that you aren't doing things that you should be doing.

In contrast to what ekki said, I think that you should try making all the calls. If you think that you can do baron, tell your team and be damn persuasive. They aren't forced to listen, but I think that you learn best from ranked games by constantly testing your limits and that you'll learn 1000x more from 1 **** up then you would from 1000 'normal, natural plays'.

You might be behind on mechanics (still playing the game like you played in season 5, even after so much stuff happened) or the average skill for Gold V went up.

In either case the solution is changing your playstyle. Personally, every season I try a couple of flavor of the moment champs and see how well I do on normals, then play them in ranked if I'm doing really well with them. That way you're forced to re-learn mechanics you'd otherwise be repeating from past seasons. Look for updated Challenger/Pro tierlists (current patch is 6.3) and check guides in there for any champion that suits you. If you really like to keep playing some champions make sure to check how they're being played this season and open your mind to new builds and playstyles.

Other than that, you should always aim to get a better strategic knowledge of the game. That is, knowing how to position, where to move on the map, when to take which objectives, etc. A huge "skill wall" appears there when climbing gold/platinum, but it might have appeared down in silver if the average skill went up. My general tip is try to get an objective whenever you're at a numbers advantage (4-man gank bot? Get Rift Herald or push top/mid. Killed their adc on a 50 sec timer? Force Baron or aim for an inhibitor, depending on teamcomp). You'll have to learn when it's too risky for each objective, but it's easier to get good at that single skill than just "trying to be a better strategist".

Hey, I'm not 100% sure if I can give SoloQ advises but I'll try my best.
First of all, if you already made it to gold last season, you can do it again. All it takes is persistance. But don't take me wrong, once you lose two consecutive games you should stop playing and take a break. Perhaps normals to practise champions for ranked or go for a walk, see some friends, whatever you like doing the most for chilling out.
Second, if you ALWAYS do well, then you WILL climb. But doing well is not getting 14.0 kda. Doing well also includes aiding your teammates. It's a team based strategy game after all.
Think about it like this. You and your teammates have a ship. Your section (the bow) is doing well, no hull breaches. But the starboard is not doing so well. What do you do? You insult your fellow sailors and sink with them, or you go to the starboard and try to fix it with your mad mechanical skills? If you always do well, then you help your teammates to get fed, so they can't feed, because lets be honest, if you have a lot of coin, your skills almost don't matter anymore.(Disclaimer: talking about low ELOs)
How many times have you said/heard "Oh that Heimerdinger/ Syndra/ Yasuo/ Darius is so bad, but he got fed because his jungler camped me like there is no tomorrow"?
    About queueing with friends:
I personally don't do it; no matter what, I lose, either because we did poorly or because they were just2gud. But if you feel that you have a pal or two that can help you out, go ahead and do it. I recommend going in threesomes, jungler, adc and support, because the botlane is really strong right now. If you don't like that, go top, jungler and mid. Do what you want, but try that your lanes have as much interaction as you can.
See you around and good luck climbing the ladder!
