League of Legends (LoL) Question: How is Runaan's Hurricane viable on Kalista?

How is Runaan's Hurricane viable on Kalista?

The past few games I've played with and against a few Kalistas, and all of them rushed Runaan's Hurricane as their first or second item. Someone told me it's the best item on her since its applies Rend. I'm a tad confused on the logic behind that, so if someone could clear the air with that that would be great.

The logic behind Runaan's Hurricane is that challenger players like Imaqtpie, Wildturtle rushed it for funsies on stream and now ppl watching their streams or copy builders from probuilds or something take it.

Both Wildturtle and Imaqtpie said it's not a good or viable item and they do not advise building towards it if you're seriously trying to win the game. They both took it for funsies. Runaan's adds next to no damage. You can't rely on getting many Rend stacks because that's only how Kalista trades. Other ADC prefer 1 AA + ability like Buckshot, then get out of range.

tl;dr Don't take the item. It's bad. No need to do maths or wait explanations behind the pick, pro's did it for funsies.

If you rush on Kalista you'll see the allure: it helps you regain a great deal of mana with rend, gives you pushing pressure and it actually makes her deal decent damage with stacks, but cuts on any real sustained damage.

I find itemizing with her complicated. I've done with and without runnaan and I can feel the impact, which is sad because if I rush IE and get Runaan instead of PD i'm losing crit, rushing BT seems a bit silly, rushing Ruined King into Runaan means I deal no damage,... I should probably look up some pro builds and stuff because she's a ride to play with.

I may have underestimated Runaan's but I'm not seeing the value of getting straight up 70% AS as first item. It's true that Rend's damage stacks fast though (+ the mobility). I would wait and see if Kalista sees any play in the LCS and if anyone picks the Runaan's.

Sneaky builds Hurricane every game on Kalista and it is his 2nd most played champion this season on his main account. Doesn't mean it's objectively the most optimal build but it seems a bit more than just a silly fun item that's garbage in reality.

watch sneaky play Kalista vs Team Liquid LCS Spring Split 2015 w2d1... He went beast mode on Kalista with Runaans.

Wasn't it the rush of every Kalista in the LCS defiantly not a trolll item

Its kind of viable if you are trying to push lanes hard because of the extra attack speed and it gives out a bit of your current ad to minions/champions around it. But as Joxuu said its an unviable item.

Runaan's lets you attack 3 units at a time and it will apply Rend to all of those 3 units that you hit, making it OP in most team fights if you have good positioning and/or are ignored.

Yes but i mean, most of the time there'll be 1-2 persons rushing adc at close range (Tanks/assassin), you'll never get a full runaan utility imo

The Runaan's Hurricane range count from the primary target that you hit. From LoLWikia: The secondary bolts hit enemy units within 375 range of your attack's primary target. There is no range limit between your champion and the secondary targets.

Meaning that Hurricane doesn't require you to be out of position or any closer than you normally would be with X ADC.

Also, to be able to proc Runaan's passive on 3 people you have to be REALLY bad positionned cos Runaan's range is insanely low.

Other items increase your damage on single targets and allow you to get a reset from them faster. I don't understand why WildTurtle or anyone else rushes or even builds it though. They haven't really explained it afaik.

I just explained the effect of Runaan's on Rend. Not why it should be taken first.

Rend scales with AD and it has a long cooldown unless you get a kill. Therefore you need other damage to actually be useful or your damage is limited to one Rend in a teamfight.
