League of Legends Dragon

What is the dragon?

LOCATION:

The Dragon is the second most powerful neutral monster on Summoner's Rift in League of Legends. Slaying the Dragon grants the team a powerful stacking buff.

Dragon Information

The dragon in Summoner's Rift spawns in an alcove in the middle of the lower river between the middle and bottom lanes. It spawns at 5:00, and it has a respawn time of 5:00.

  • Killing the dragon grants experience to killer and nearby allies.
  • If the killing team is lower average level than their opponents, the Dragon grants a bonus XP of +25% per average level difference.
  • Bonus XP is sharply increased for the lowest level members of the team, +15% per number of levels behind the Dragon squared (max total +200% extra).
  • When Dragon first takes flight, it knocks back surrounding enemies.
  • Dragon's basic attacks are treated as spells and deal physical damage.
  • The Dragon's basic attacks deal 7% of the target's current health as bonus physical damage.
  • Slaying Elemental Dragons which spawn (random types) will grant your team permanent buffs, depending on the type of dragon slain. After one team claims their fourth elemental drake, all future dragons will be Elder Dragons, which has a 6:00 respawn time.

The following buff are gained by slaying the corresponding dragons:

Dragon Strategies

  • Try to keep dragon warded. It is worth a significant amount of gold and experience, so it is important to keep tabs on it. Control Wards serve this purpose well because it allows you to clear the enemy team's wards and reduce their vision.
  • Dragon is the reason why the bottom lane is usually the duo lane. Securing the dragon is a high priority.
  • If you see the enemy team making an attempt at dragon, try not to let it go unchallenged. In the early levels especially, dragon will weaken at least one of the enemy champions.
  • Remember that the team that lands the killing blow gets the buff and experience. Try and land fast skill shots on him to steal it if your team can't challenge for it, or attempt to steal it with Smite.
  • Alternatively, someone from your team should have Smite to prevent it from being easily stolen. Dragon buffs can change the outcome of a game, so don't let others steal it simply because no one on your team took Smite.
