I remember the second time I did promos, on a smurf, I went 6-4 and got Silver 4, and I was pretty surprised about it to say the least considering my performances.
And I haven't actually managed this but apparently 8 promo wins gets you low gold and 10 gets you platinum.

Basically MOBAFire.

Quick disclaimer here. Your performance doesn't affect your LP gains. Not at all. Your gains only depend on the result of the game (win or lose) and the hidden MMR of the 10 accounts playing.

I decided to play my ranked matches in 2 days of hitting 30 becauyse i was so hype. Unfortunately due to my mmr and game knowledge I lost 8 of them and have been in Bronze 2. I then stopped, played around 400-500 normal games to learn and then found myself a duo queue buddy. We know main botlane (myself as support, usually Thresh) and we have lost lane only once and we have a solid 50-70% winrate which means we have to climb eventually. But to anyone not level 30 yet, wait... dont start straight away you will screw over your accounts rank.

Credits to Amanda for making this... yeah, you're not having happy dreams tonight.

You do realize you're implying that a new player jumping into ranked on average has a silver skill level (which, I may add, makes no sense at all)?

and that is where things go wrong. people shouldn't jump in ranked as soon as they hit level 30. no offense!

I think you're misunderstanding it. Last time Riot showed stats over how many players there were in each division, Gold players were the top 10%-25%, Silver something around 25%-50/70% and Bronze the "worst" 50/30% (higher divisions get less and less players each, I don't recall plat/diamond/challenger numbers). This meant the median for players was around Silver 5, and from there up and down there were more or less the same amount of players (same amount of players from Bronze 1 to 5 than from silver 4 to challenger, something like that).

Sure, new players are often on the low side of that median, but it still somehow works as an estimate of how good an average player will be after some time. It's also a consequence of the mathematical formula for calculating MMR (matchmaking rating), so it will probably always stay around Silver 5.
