Lee Sin, Udyr and Trundle are BEASTLY junglers.
I recommend learning to play them.
They are all tanky DPS.
95% of all melee champions need to build tanky or they'll just be useless (all those you mentioned are that way, except for Poppy, but her passive is OP).

1) Riven and Talon are good for laning solo top.

Riven's a LOT better in the jungle, she is pretty bad solotop and will get stomped there if the player is good, and she's one of the best junglers in the game...

I think the choice is clear :)

I completely disagree.

Riven is as strong as Renekton in solo top from what I've seen. If not stronger. Maybe you just haven't seen many good Rivens (tbh, neither have I). The best I've seen so far has been about wRAth's calibur (including him).

She may be able to jungle, but she's definitely NOT one of the best junglers in the game. Not by a long shot. Her ganks are extremely easy to avoid, especially if you have a ward up. As I understand it, her jungle time isn't anything special either when compared to others like Noct, Lee and Udyr.

My feeling is that I will focus on Lee Sin, and perhaps pick up Nocturne and try him out. (I really think he looks awesome!)

Out of curiosity. Where does poppy fit in all of this? I have really enjoyed playing her, but she doesn't seem to be a champion that can scale into a high elo level of play. Why is this?

From my limited experience, she can't jungle well, she's a weak solo top (no sustain), she can't mid, she can't support, and she's less useful than a ranged DPS. She just doesn't fit in the meta.

She also has no ranged poke. The closest thing to a ranged ability is her dash, which is more of a gap-closer. She's not a terrible champion, but most others do what she does, but better.

Poppy is rather bad due to her poor early game and reliance on farm (as I understand anyway).

Lee and Nocturne are both great junglers (think Lee is getting banned a lot at the momet however).

What's up with Olaf? I don't seem him played much, and he used to be the fastest jungle time in the game. Details, please?

Special thanks to Keondre for the sig!

Due to inactivity, I am no longer reviewing guides. Sorry guys :(

I think those reasons would make sense. From my play with Poppy she is reliant on farm, however, she is a terrible farmer. Also, like you mentioned, she has no ranged poke, which does hurt her. She is a bit of a pub stomper at lower levels. I picked her up and had easily 3 or 4 to 1 kd without even learning her intricacies. She is definitely a solid carry if fed, however, in higher levels of play this will not happen.

Well, thanks so much guys! You guys have been awesome. I really appreciate your feedback and positive attitudes towards the "new guy". I think I will be picking up Nocturne later and giving him a shot along with Lee Sin. Looks like its the jungle for me ;)

He's still okay, but I think his skill requirement is a bit high for most players. I know some of the pro's still play him from time to time, but other junglers are generally more viable at the moment.

His play style is very aggressive. Between his passive and his ult, you're kinda supposed to jump into a fight and almost die if you want to be effective. From what I hear, he's still a good champion. Not many people can really play him though.

Her level 2 ganks are insane! I mean INSANE! And she is a strong invader on top of that. Only one that can match her aggressiveness in the jungle is Lee Sin. But then again, no one is better than Lee sin...

To more quickly acclimate yourself to the game, 2-3 pick champs who can do more than one thing very well.

Examples of good melee's who do more than one right be...

Udyr; solo top, jungle.

Lee Sin; Solo top, jungle.

Cho Gath; Solo top, jungle.

Gangplank; Solo top, jungle.

Pretty much any melee who can jungle can also solo top.

That way you can use the same champ repeatedly and more rapidly acclimate yourself to various roles on the team.

If you want to solo top, you need to pick the right champs to do it. You'll also need to have jungled before.

Jungling is important, you should do this every game for 1-2 months if you want to be an effective solo top player ^^
