Ironically Riot is actually going to have to continue to buff/rework the old champions because the new ones so out class the older champs. In some ways it seems like they are causing themselves even more work because the new champs are so powerful. However... the new champs are where they make their money so of course they won't stop making them so powerful.

The issue with the newer champs is primarily mechanics based.
Riot is taking older stuff and simply improving it...Like drastically.
Corki's Phosphorus Bomb became Grave's Smoke Screen....
Singed Fling is now Voliber's Charge/Fling (imo)
Troll Pool became Troll Pole etc....
Just things I see as being very similar and actually better than the older champs.

Yeah, it annoys me how Riot seem to really enjoy making almost every skill a passive/active type affair now. Older champs tend to have simple skills that do one thing alone, but newer champs have skills with several different effects. It's like every champion lately is melee tanky DPS with passive attack speed and armour/MR. Unless I am just imagining it.
Also, newer champs getting old skills but better. For example, Graves' E is essentially Tristana's E and W combined, and Vayne's E is almost Tristana's ult.

The passive armour/MR was to try to get rid of the offtank meta, which was insanely strong back at Dreamhack and is now part of our metagame ( Most teams have an offtank solotop/Jungle ) I believe. Or was that passive ArP and Magic Pen? I can't remember :C
ANYWAYS OT : I like how Riot nerfed Mordekaiser after HSGG started playing him. I started playing in February 2011, right before Jarvan was released. I don't remember Mordekaiser being nerfed so badly, all I remember was the massive HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE-ing smurf accounts did to me :(

However, the old champs with the old straight forward kits could be brought into line by just having bigger impact on those linear skills Jeffeh.
It just seems a 5 number boost on some old champions skills or a base stats buff would be enough :)
