If you want to be aggressive, you need to learn exactly how much damage you can trade. Farming with
Aatrox is really hard imo, and he is probably better off in the jungle.

This video should have some good pointers about farming and the like. Here are the rest of the videos for specific roles and situations.
Learning to be aggressive comes with practice since you need to know the limits of your champion.
If you are a level or two ahead of the enemy, have more farm, have more items, higher stats, etc. and you are sure that no other enemies are around, that is when you should be aggressive and try to take the kill.
Poking the enemy in lane is a little different. Watch their movements and compare your minion wave to theirs. If they are about to attack one of your low health creep, check and see if any of their creep are about to die. If not, auto-attack them while they attack your creep. They'll have to miss CS or take harass.
To know if the enemy has targeted you (AKA is going to attack), turn on colorblind mode and you will notice a distinct outline around their champion when they are on path to attack you.
I'll keep this last bit short and simple about initiating, but generally as Miss Fortune you don't want to be the initiator since you need to stay near the back lines. However, as Aatrox (not glass cannon Aatrox mind you, unless you're very fed) wait for one of their squishies to get out of position while your team is in position, then you can Q and knock-up a few of them and your team can come in and do the rest.

I have difficulties on when to "be aggressive" in my lane, and how to engage in team fights.
I don't have much problems farming with Miss fortune but I have trouble farming with Aatrox early in the game since the enemy is pretty close to the minions and I'm worried when they will attack.
I don't have good communication with the person laning with me since I mostly play games with randoms and rarely with some friends, so Skype, etc isn't an option and I wish I would play more games where I was on Skype and be able to be alerted that we should be careful for a gank that second not a minute after they finishing typing when I'm already stunned and killed.
Just need some help on Farming and when to engange mostly
