Introduction to Hybrid AD Mordekaiser

Update for Season 4 in progress

AD Mordekaiser is commonly referred to as "Troll Build". I am here to prove you wrong.

Mordekaiser is uncontestedly one of the best 1v1 champions lategame. On Twisted Treeline, the 3v3 environment is upclose and personal, which is what Mordekaiser wants. In teamfights, his AoE skills are likely to hit all his opponents, and since there are only 3 enemies, there is less CC and kiting. AD Mordekaiser thrives in 3v3.

Mordekaiser still needs Magic Penetration and Spellvamp because his abilities deal Magic Damage, most notably his Q: Mace of Spades, which scales off of AD.

Runes and Masteries

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
Runes:
greater mark of hybrid penetration Reds: Hybrid Pen- Important so your abilities still deal damage.
Yellows: Flat Armor- to deal with the numerous AD Bruisers.
Blues: Magic Penetration- Important so your abilities still deal damage.
Quints: Spellvamp- Even AD Mordekaiser needs Spellvamp versus any other runes. The only other runes I would consider would be movementspeed or lifesteal.

Masteries:
Focuses on Utility to get bonus 3% Spellvamp/Lifesteal.
Offense Masteries focus on Flat AD and % Magic Pen.

Important Stats Total:
9% Spellvamp, 3% Lifesteal, 14 Flat Armor Pen, and 11.25 Flat & 8% Armor Pen or 8% Magic Pen.

Take Flash and Ignite (Ignite whomever you throw R on).

Itemization

Item Sequence

Hextech Gunblade 3000
Sunfire Aegis 2700
Ravenous Hydra 3300
Spirit Visage 2900
Sanguine Blade 3000

Mordekaiser has okay AP scaling, so building him AD isn't lossing out on much, with exception to his Ultimate. I focus on building Magic Penetration, AD, Health and Resistances, and CDR in that order.

Hextech Gunblade is essential to the build. The Targeted Slow is invaluable to catch enemies, the AD, AP, Lifesteal and Spellvamp are much needed stats to make Mordkaiser's Health costs a non-issue.

After Hextech Gunblade, focus on building Sunfire Cape for bonus Health and Armor so you can deal with enemy burst while dealing moderate DPS magic damage. Once you have bought Giant's Belt, you can get aggressive because you cannot be bursted down.

After Sunfire, build one major AD/Lifesteal item such as Ravenous Hydra or Sanguine Blade to give Mordekaiser's Q excellent damage plus the obvious sustain. Hydra has a neat mechanic, when activated, Hydra resets your AA (Auto Attack). A combo you can use is, AA + Q + Hydra AA reset = Triple AA.

These 3 items are all Mordekaiser needs, the last three items are situational depending on the match.

Spirit Visage multiplies Mordekaiser's healing and is all the MR he needs. In addition, the 20% CDR is superb, it brings Mordekaiser's Q to 3.2s and his W to 4.8s. 40% CDR brings Q down to 2.4s and W to 3.6 and his R to 54s. 40% CDR can be easily achieved with this build without hurting his damage or his survivability. zeke's herald Zeke's Herald offers 20% CDR and is a good addition overall.

Especially bursty enemy may require more Health and MR/AR to counter. Once Mordekaiser has his first 3 Items, he can easily start dueling and killing. Stacking additional AD and lifesteal increases Mordekaiser's survivability exponentially.

Skill Sequence

Again for terms of laning in Twisted Treeline: R, E, Q, W
-Max E first for poke.
-Max Q second for Damage.
-W is maxed last obviously. It gives Morde AR/MR and modest AoE Damage.
-AD Mordekaiser's Ultimate is less powerful with how much damage it deals over time. However, with the amount of Magic Penetration and the small amount of AP from HTGB, his Ultimate: Children of the Grave is still a good execution skill.

The major reason I created this guide is due to the fact that Mordekaiser has 1:1 or 1.65:1 AD Scaling on his Q: Mace of Spades.

Mace of Spades: MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200 (+ 40% AP) (+ 100% Bonus AD)
SINGLE TARGET MAGIC DAMAGE: 132 / 181.5 / 231 / 280.5 / 330 (+ 66% AP) (+ 165% Bonus AD).
As stated earlier, this ability is on a 4 second cooldown, and with 40% CDR it has a 2.6 second cooldown. All damage is converted into Magic Damage which is Spellvamp-able. This would include Sheen procs or any other types of on-hit effects. This is the main reason why Spellvamp is still a necessity even though we are building AD. Inbetween the cooldowns on your abilities, the AD + LifeSteal will top off your Health bar.

R: Children of the Grave: This ability has two parts: the Life Drain aspect and the Ghost.
-The Life Drain isn't that great, but it can still be used to execute an Enemy.
-The Ghost is the more important part of the skill. The Ghost is essentially another Champion without abilities. The Ghost can only Auto Attack, but these Auto Attacks deal Magic Damage and scale off of a combination of Mordekaiser's AD and the original champion. The Ghost's AAs do not proc Lifesteal or Spellvamp.

Useful Tips and Teamwork

Refrain from going all in until level 6. Don't get caught out by yourself on the map before you have built your core items.

Mordekaiser can go jungling on TT at level 3.

Remind your allies to target and kill whomever you throw your Ultimate on, No Kill = No Ghost. Remember to use his Ultimate to create a Ghost. The Pet can be used to capture altars, lead turret dives, take down towers. It turns a 3v3 into a 4v2.

Overall as far as "Troll Builds" go, this one is fairly viable, if only on TT.
