Runes

I take these runes because I believe these are the best to help me stay without going back the longest. It helps against many champs I would have a hard time laning against such as Annie. The armor is against the ad carry and the magic resist is for a possible AP support.

Masteries

I take the 21 in utility because they help me not fall behind as a support while the rest of my team excels. I take the 9 in defense because they help in laning.

Skill Sequence

I Max Q first because it will make your laning phase a lot easier. It gives good poke, a slow, and applies your passive. I take my E second because this is probably when team fights start taking place and I want to be there in the front tanking for my team. I take W last because it is not as good as maxing the others abilities.

Spells

I always take flash because who does not take flash. I generally take exhaust, but now with the recent changes it is acceptable to take heal. The reason I don't take heal is because generally my adc will take it. I rarely take ignite, but it is good if you want to play aggressive and secure kills.

Team Work

If I see someone is engaging against my carry, especially Leona, I will w to them and then put up my shield. If this still continues I will auto attack and q to trigger my passive. If I am level 6 or higher it is easier to twist the tides because of its massive power.

In team fights, I will be the tank and pop my e to shield my team. If we are playing defensive team fights, I will stand by my ad carry and find opportunities to make plays.

DO NOT HESITATE TO USE YOUR ULT IF YOU FIND THE CHANCE!!! I cannot emphasize this more. Your ultimate can twist the tables, engage, let your team escape. It has so much potential. Your goal in team fights is to tank and find big opportunities to use your ultimate. Tell your team how long until ultimate and inform them.
