Heya!

Firstly, I'd like to say that you've gone to a lot of effort to collate all this data from r/QuinnMains and I'm sure many players are benefiting from your hard work ^^

I noticed when reading that you sort of had a dismissive tone of voice when a choice seemed obvious. Like "don't argue, just take it" or "duh!". A newer player may be confused about language like this, as they genuinely wouldn't know why that choice was integral to the playstyle.

I really like how comprehensive this guide is, but can see how a reader may get lost. Have you ever thought of splitting the chapters by playstyle/lane/role instead of the standard guide layouts? Seeing as you cover a multitude of playstyles, it seems to me that a chapter about playing top lane and the runes/masteries/summoners etc to grab would be useful for a reader looking for a specific style of play.

Great start, +1 :) Thanks for requesting a discussion!

Thank you for the quick reply!

It's true that I didn't really explain the obvious choices in the Spell section and instead try to add some humour there. I understand where you are coming from, but at the same time anyone who has played League for a bit will know that almost every champion takes Flash, Jungler's take Smite and ADCs Heal. There are exceptions to this of course, but it stands true for the vast majority of champions. That's why I chose to kinda 'skip' over these. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to explain them right? ;) I will make some changes to that later.

The problem with splitting the chapters based on lane/role/playstyle is that often a lot of things overlap between the different playstyles. I think that if I split the guide in that way, I will end up having to repeat a lot of the information. I understand that it's a bit easy to get 'lost' in the guide, but I think splitting it based on playstyle will create more problems than it would solve. Perhaps an alternative solution would be to make it easier to move around sections by using anchors (the ones provided with MOBAFire aren't very clear to see, being tucked away in corner of every chapter)? What do you think?

jhoijhoi (1932) | March 17, 2017 5:20pm
Yeah, I see what you mean about the repetition of information. Hmmm... That's a tough one. It'd also be a lot of extra work to rearrange everything... But you do sort of repeat or instruct quite a bit too that you wouldn't have to do if it was ordered in a different way. For instance, "if you're bot get this", "if you're jungling get this", "if you're mid, get this". Whereas if you had a section MID you wouldn't have to clarify when to get which thing. iykwim with that super convoluted explanation.

I'm really wracking my brain thinking of a way to get the best of both worlds.

For example, perhaps in each chapter have a part at the end like (made up data for the sake of example) that looks MUCH better than this (but you get the idea):

ADC
TOP
MID
JUNGLE

ADC
18/12/0
TOP
12/18/0
MID
12/0/18
JUNGLE
18/0/12

ADC
TOP
MID
JUNGLE

etc

Thoughts? ^^

Single best guide on any champion I have ever seen. Thank you. I went from always being marginally down on KDR to going 20/3/10 on a regular basis, even as an ADC!

This is just fantastic. Some of the key notes about the use (and non-use!) of Vault were beyond helpful.

if say you fall slightly behind or fail at getting first blood would it be okay to take cull to try and keep your gold even with you enemy adc?

If they don't have an all-in support like Blitzcrank then yes, getting a Cull could be an option.

Love the idea of a collaboration of multiple mains coming together to make a Guide for a Champion. Definitely leaves less room for error and disagreement. Being a part of /r/AhriMains myself, it's always nice to have multiple people's opinions and theorycrafting when it comes from people who know what they're talking about! Great job with the Guide /r/QuinnMains!

Will there ever be a detailed matchups section with suggested build style and laning tips?
2
[-]
QuinnMains (5) | November 2, 2016 9:36am
Most likely not. Since Quinn is played in 4 different roles (and as ADC you have to take the enemy support into account), I would have to create a matchup for every single champion in the game. Now if this was just my guide, that would be no problem. But because this is a community guide, the whole process is very long. Making a matchup section that is detailed and high standard is simply unreasonable because of the way the community guide works.

HOWEVER, we do have a matchup section on the r/QuinnMains wiki (found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/QuinnMains/wiki/index#wiki_matchups)

Hey do you create a "new" guide for quinn cuz the new penetration suck in early game so idk if the iatems still useable cuz when i loose in early its pretty rare that i comeback in mid/late :(

QuinnMains (5) | October 24, 2016 4:00am
If by new penetration you mean the lethality on PBE, then yes, I will be updating the guide with new builds. However, since a lot of the stuff on PBE is subject to change, I probably won't be making any changes until preseason or maybe even until season 7 starts.

Is it ever ok to build trinity force on quinn?
i often seem to have to back off more than i would like due to low mana and wondered if sheen along with your passive would be strong
1
[-]
QuinnMains (5) | August 20, 2016 12:19pm
The common opinion on r/QuinnMains is that TF is not a good item on Quinn as we don't use the Sheen passive very effectively due to long CDs. If you're low on mana then just back and ult to lane (because of our ult is less of a problem) or try to manage your mana in a more effective way.

However, we have recently had a breakthrough in a new build in which TF is actually viable. Right now we need to test it further but if everything goes well, then this new build will be added to the guide. However, I would say that the majority of the time TF is not a very good item and you shouldn't really buy it.

I'm having a real problem with items buying order and timing. when I'm late game well feeded I do great but in early game my items doesn't seem to have the right effect.

Hey!
I'm pretty newbe so I'm gonna give you an example of the guide that have been the most useful to me so far and made me super good with DR.Mundo:
http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/mundo-how-to-go-where-you-please-423329

The Items there are set so nicely I couldn't have do it better myself:
It have 2 options for start, an absolute must (I'm sure quinn have some items that you would buy every game no matter what), first back items (which are also prioritized in the notes - super helpful), against ap/ad and other useful items.
This sections would have meant nothing if not for the notes which are very detailed.

This of course is just a suggestion but I just wanted you to know what a newbe like me find helpful.
Thank you and tnx for the reply!

Good morning,
you requested a review from my review service, found here. Apologies for taking so long to get to your guide. I Sir wellington finished his review a little before I finished mine though, and he covered a good amount of the comments that I would've focused on, so I decided to wait until you made another revision of your guide before submitting my reviews.

Attached below is a PDF of your guide that i've marked up with my comments.
review

I think that you could clean up your guide a little bit by shortening the runes, masteries, and items section. Additionally, I think that you're focusing on the wrong kind of content to include in your gameplay section. See the PDF for specifics.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, respond here, or respond in my review thread. If you got something out of this, throw me a +rep; That gives me a good idea of whether I need to re-evaluate the way i review guides. Thanks for your time,
Michael

Thank you for your review. You kinda caught me at a bad time as I am right in the middle of making a lot of big changes, mostly to Items, Runes + Masteries and the laning section. I will try to answer your questions and eventually (because it's a community guide, everything takes a long time to do) make the suggested changes. I will answer each point you made in your review, so just have both them open and go through it one by one.
Spoiler: Click to view

Well, that's it. It's kinda unfortunate that you reviewed my guide just as I am in the middle of making some really big changes. Hopefully these changes will fix most of what you said. However, some of the things you said I must disagree with for an array of reasons (for example Black Cleaver not being a good item).

None the less, I am very grateful for your time and effort. Thank you very much for your review. I will do my best to implement everything as quickly as possible (but looking at the length of my to-do list and because of the way things are done, it will probably take a good while).

Sir Wellington (30) | June 15, 2016 10:16am
- Sir Wellington's Review Shop -

Sorry for the late response! Since you haven't had much time between exams to digest Dekar's review, I'll mostly skip past the things he already mentioned and see if I can point out anything else useful.
Cheat Sheet

- Consider putting Duskblade of Draktharr in the "Also Good" section. I haven't played Quinn myself so correct me if I'm wrong, but Duskblade looks like it would be a fantastic item (especially if you get Maw instead of Sterak's). The more flat armor pen you stack, the more effective it becomes because of the way armor works.

- What's your reasoning for taking Fervor of Battle over Thunderlord's Decree ? Are you setting up Quinn for sustained damage or burst? From my experience playing against her, Quinn is a very bursty marksman like Graves or Jhin. The flat armor pen from the Cunning tree would also work a bit better with the flat pen from your items than the 7% from the Ferocity tree would.

Pros/Cons

- Look for different icons to use other than and . They clash horribly with the green/red theme of this section. (brown and red = ugly together, dark green and fiery orange/red = ugly)

Spells

- I would take out Barrier entirely. The damage it mitigates is almost always less than the damage mitigated from Exhaust, and Exhaust has more utility with its slow and armor/mr shred. For example, ask Zed mains how much they hate Exhaust :P

Runes

- Take out the Greater Quintessence of Critical Damage suggestion. That's one of 4 ways to increase your DPS via crits (AD, AS, Crit chance, crit dmg), and it's the only one that is completely useless until you get solid amounts of crit chance and only marginally useful until you get solid amounts of AD. If you want to increase the damage of your crits, you're better off going with flat AD, which still increases your crit damage, but more importantly gives you a substantial bonus early on.

Masteries

- Once again, the colors here clash a lot (bright red/green christmas theme vs. cyan vs. bright yellow vs. bluish/purple/soft gold chapter banner). Think of a theme for the guide, some color scheme that you can really own and make people think of your guide when they see that color. The theme of my guide is dark orange, for instance. I don't have every word coded in orange of course, but it's one of the few colors I choose to accent my guide with, and the others are always complimentary colors (grey and dark blue work well with orange, while pink and green do not). Since you have nice looking chapter headers already, try out blue, purple, gold or soft/light brown and see how they work together since you already have those colors in your headers.

Items

+ I LOVE your useful stats setup at the beginning of this section!

- Wait, now I'm confused. If Essence Reaver is a core item here, why is it absent from the cheat sheet?

- Your Builds section should be reformatted, maybe even from scratch. Up to this point you've done an excellent job of including icons/pictures in just the right amounts, but here you don't have any at all. There's some unnecessary text as well:

Quoted:
Right, so let's get down to business. The first thing you should know is that you should NOT be building exactly the same thing every single game. Just because we suggested a full build doesn't make that build the best build. The point here is that you should adapt your build based on what the enemy is building.

It can be simplified down to something more like this:

Quoted:
First things first: you should NOT be building exactly the same thing every single game. Just because we suggested a full build doesn't make that the best build. Instead, you should adapt your build based on what the enemy is building.

See the difference? Instead of explicitly stating "here's what I'm going to say" and then "here's what I'm saying", just state your thoughts immediately to make it less cluttered and reduce the size of your paragraphs here.

- (Also in your Builds section): You can make this look quite nice with a column, table, or some sort of box with example builds in it. For instance, you could have a small column on the right side titled "USUAL CORE BUILD", with -> Boots -> / / below it. Same goes for your ADC and Mid builds. Experiment!
Laning/Jungling

- I won't mention colors anymore, but if you decide to change them, make sure to scour your whole guide since they clash here as well, and probably elsewhere.

+ Very nice formatting here!

- Consider replacing the artwork with a relevant picture, GIF, or video describing the content in each section. If you want to keep the artwork (which is fine since it looks nice), it would still be worth adding gameplay visuals to this section because of how helpful they are.

- The Top, Mid, ADC, and Jungle sections are fine, but Splitpushing and Teamfighting are pretty dense. Break them up into two or more paragraphs, or condense them.

Conclusion:

Great guide! It's well laid out and has just about everything necessary. I feel like I know how to play Quinn well now, which means it's effective. There's only just a few itemization parts worth questioning/changing (Essence Reaver, Duskblade, Fervor vs. Thunderlord's), and a few formatting issues (walls of text, colors, minimal gameplay visuals) but aside from that, this guide is tight. Have a 4 out of 5 and my upvote!

Hey there. I finally got round to making the changes from your review. Although I am not quite done yet (I am planning on doing a big update on the item, runes and masteries section), I have changed some of the stuff and I can at least answer some of the questions you posed.

Quinn can be set up for both sustained damage and burst. We usually take FoB if we are against tanks, if we are ADC or if we have a more mid/late game ADC-orientated playstyle. This is because these things all require sustained damage. On the other hand, we tend to take TLD when we are against squishy opponents, when we are Jungle or Mid and when we have a more Assassin-orientated playstyle. These things value the burst damage more than the sustained damage from FoB.

I am considering taking out Barrier, but I need to confirm some other things.

Essence Reaver is only absent from the Core/Pen build cheat sheet. This is be ER is only taken when playing ADC. You can find it on the cheat sheet for the ADC build.

I am also planning to add more videos/images to the laning/jungling sections just like you suggested.

I am going to have to disagree with you on your last point. Although the Splitpushing and Teamfighting are longer than Top,Mid,ADC and Jungle, I still think they are manageable. I might trim them a bit but they will mostly stay as they are.

I hope I answered some of your questions. I am still working on changing a lot of things, but because I need to ask for everyone's opinion before I can make any changes, it's a lengthy process. Sorry for taking so long to do it.

Once again thank you for your review.

Thanks for the review, much appreciated! I didn't even think about how the colors work together, that is a very good suggestion. In terms of reformatting the builds section, I was already planning to do that (I have some cool new ideas and stuff). I also have some ideas in mind about adding pictures/videos to the lanining/jungling section. This Friday is my second to last exam (my last exam is on the 27th). That means that I will soon be able to get to work with this guide. Once again thanks for your time and effort!

My final grade is 9/10, which means I'll +upvote and +rep. The only problems you really had were inconsistency with certain sections, poor placement of certain... Things (mainly the links), and overall kind of hard to swallow walls of text. It's really long and there isn't too much of it that's refreshing in the second half or so after the "core build" section. You should make your explanations quite a bit more concise. I'll give you one quick example of what I mean in the spoiler below.

QuinnMains (5) | July 12, 2016 10:49am
Hey, I finally got round to working on all these reviews. Although I am still not done (mainly working on Items, Runes + Masteries and then the laning section), I have made some changes and I can answer some of the questions you said.

Essence Reaver is an allright item. It's quite expensive however, the mana regen is only important in the early game and the CDR is simply a luxury. Therefore we only take it when we are ADC and we only take is as first item. Top/Mid/Jungle there are simply better alternatives.

I am considering adding Ghost to the spells section but I need to confirm with others first.

TP is only taken Top lane and it is still usefull. Although Quinn's ult means she can roam easily, TP allows you to help your botlane out and also means you can splitpush whilst being certain that if a teamfight erupts, you can TP there and help your team out. It's certainly viable.

Definitely take Exhaust over Barrier toplane.

I wouldn't say flanking with Quinn is extremely risky. As long as your time your engage properly, you will be fine.

BotRK is a niche item that you get very rarely. It used to be super good, but not it's not as good. Getting a defensive item is usually good, but Dead Man's Plate isn't the best option. Usually Sterak's or Maw is enough.

I will make Lifesteal it's own section.

Essence Reaver does exist on the cheat sheet, but only the ADC one. This is because we only take ER when we are ADC.

I hope I answered some of your questions. There's still a lot of work to be done, but because everything needs to be checked with the other members of the community, makiing changes is a lengthy process. Thank you for your patience.

winston gergill (19) | May 30, 2016 11:10pm
hi I’m filler text pls ignore me
have a nice day

winston’s formatting review service

Hey there!

Before I break down your sections, I’d like to let you know that you since you made banners, you can actually ditch the standard MOBAfire Table of Contents and make your own instead! Here's a step-by-step guide on how to go about doing that.

Okay, onto the more nitty-gritty stuff.

Introduction

Honestly, this section is a bit bland. It does get the job done, though. The links are super useful and the music is amazing (gotta love Riot sometimes). I would suggest, however, to add descriptions for your links so that your readers actually know what they’re clicking on.

specifics

Pros/Cons

Simple, yet informative. I like it.

specifics

Spells

Any informative guide is pretty much broken up into three parts: champion info (pros/cons, abilities, skill order), game info (meaning runes, masteries, spells, and items), and gameplay/tips and tricks/etc. I think it’s best to have it in that order; champion, game, gameplay/other stuff. That way, the first thing your reader learns about is whatever champion the guide is written for. By knowing all about the champion first ( Quinn, in this case), a reader is able to see on their own why a certain spell or rune page or mastery set works. Jumping right into it with spells before explaining any actual abilities is a bit off-putting, and may scare away a reader who’s new to the game.

Basically, group your sections so it goes Intro - Pros/Cons - Abilities - Runes/Masteries (whichever you feel should come first, they’re pretty much in the same boat) - Items - Laning/Jungling - Roaming - Common Mistakes - Conclusion - Change Log.

Sorry, back to the actual section. Again, it’s short but sweet. You’ve laid out the icons and text very cleanly. Good work!

specifics

Runes

Keeping it short and simple. Me gusta.

specifics

Masteries

I know the masteries for this build are already in the cheat sheet, but it’s very helpful, especially to newer readers/players, to explain what choices you’re making throughout the trees, not just the Keystones. Pictures would be really helpful, too.

specifics

Abilities

While what you have is actually really nicely coded, images or videos are always very nice to have in an abilities section. Luckily for you, the preseason minisite has .webm files for all of Quinn’s abilites. That means you can embed looping, HD videos, sound included, right into your guide! For example, here’s Heightened Senses:

Since this is quite a long post, quoting me for the code would be pretty tedious, so here’s the code for all of Quinn’s abilities (just copy and paste, it’ll be centered):

Passive: Harrier
Code:
[center][webm url=https://lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/champion-abilities/videos/mp4/0133_01.mp4 autoplay=on loop=on][/center]

Q: Blinding Assault
Code:
[center][webm url=https://lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/champion-abilities/videos/mp4/0133_02.mp4 autoplay=on loop=on][/center]

W: Heightened Senses
Code:
[center][webm url=https://lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/champion-abilities/videos/mp4/0133_03.mp4 autoplay=on loop=on][/center]

E: Vault
Code:
[center][webm url=https://lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/champion-abilities/videos/mp4/0133_04.mp4 autoplay=on loop=on][/center]

R: Behind Enemy Lines
Code:
[center][webm url=https://lolstatic-a.akamaihd.net/champion-abilities/videos/mp4/0133_05.mp4 autoplay=on loop=on][/center]

specifics

Items

I LOVE the mini-cheatsheet at the top of this section. Short, simple, looks really good, and super creative to boot. Other than capitalizing your headers (like “Zeal Items” and “Good Items”), the formatting is practically flawless. I think this might my personal favorite section! :D

specifics

Laning/Jungling

Probably my second-favorite section. The pictures are really nice to make all the text a little easier on the eyes, though I’d love some in-game shots of team fights, laning, a jungle path, or a gank. Some coding would also help to make everything a little better to read. Still, your paragraph breaks make sense and distribute information well. I’m also a fan of the summary sections at the bottom of each sub-chapter. Well done!

specifics

Roaming

This is a fairly plain section, and could benefit from coding, like saying Charm instead of Charm, as stated earlier. Pictures also help a ton!

specifics

Common Mistakes

I like this section - it’s kind of an extension from your tips in the Abilities section as well as from the Laning/Jungling section. Very helpful indeed. Again, though, it’s pretty plain; you’ve only got one link and no coding/pictures. Still, it’s in a bulleted list, so its readability is preserved.

One tip: Though the video is really useful, the text you use for the link is misleading; it should be something more like “Here is a good example of why you should save your E after ulting.”

specifics

Conclusion

Keeping with the theme of this guide, your conclusion is short, but sweet. I love the picture you put there, too. It’s actually my favorite out of all of the ones I’ve seen here. :)

specifics

I really enjoyed reading this guide. Its simple, clean format was enough to break up the text a little, yet without being overwhelming. That said, you could benefit a lot from further use of coding, which makes everything easier to read as well as making the experience more pleasurable. You also had a fair amount of typos/grammar mistakes, but none that made it so I couldn’t understand what you were trying to say.

your score (rounded up!):

Cheers!

Hey there. Thanks for reviewing my guide. I am in the process of making your suggested changes. However I am having a little bit of difficulty when inserting the videos using the code you provided. Is there any way to set a limit on the size of the videos? Thanks in advance!

There is so much to learn from this video. My mastery of this video is probably the single biggest factor contributing to my success as [[morgana]] support. It has also improved my quality of play on other skillshot reliant champions.

what this looks like

Above is an excerpt from my morgana guide.
This is something that I do that I personally like. It links to a youtube video, but instead of putting text in the link, I put an image of the video's thumbnail. Using this, you can use the code
Code:

To effectively control the width of your youtube videos.

You requested a review in my review thread, but i'm going to hold off until you make some changes. It looks like winston's already given you some good ideas on how to start improving your guide.

Hope this helps!

Have you considered essence reaver? It helps with mana sustain, gives CDR, gives crit chance which is also cdr for the passive, and gives decent AD.

Are you sure you have gone over/read the guide ? Im pretty sure he have stated his opinions of why/when to take Essence Reaver. One of the points he stated is that its good if you're going for Crit build

^Exactly what BlueMoon01 said ;) Unless you mean have I considered ER for the normal build path. If that's what you meant, then the answer is I have but ER simply isn't that good unless your building crit (hence why it's included in the crit build path).

Hey BlueMoon01, I have changed the format of the item section. Hopefully, I have made it better and not worse :p . I'll be grateful for any further feedback.

No problem, thank you very much for your feedback. I will fix the spelling error right away, but i'll have to experiment a bit with the item section to see which of your suggestions works out best. I'll be sure to drop a comment when it's done and then (if your willing) you can tell me if it's better.

Once again thanks for your comment!

In my opinion (do not hate me T-T)

You should put all the descriptions in a new chapter or add more space to them, right now it just looks like a bunch wall of text that is hard to read (for me atleast) and I don't really get much information on some items
Or
You could add some format to them

Thanks for the feedback. Could you clarify what you mean by tidying it up? Should I make the item descriptions shorter or just add more space between each item? Or maybe you mean something completely different?

The item section looks like a wall of text instead of description on 'why u shud get this item'

It would be nice if you can tidy up that section, its just my opinion

Great guide anyways :^)

Yep, we will definitely include a section about that at some point. However I am currently busy with exams and such and therefore don't have time to add anything new (plus, it's quite a lengthy process as everything has to be checked with the people from r/QuinnMains to see if they agree. Only then do I add it into the guide). The next section will be a more in-depth section on items, but after that we will probably focus on gameplay/laning.

I like the look of it so far, but i think you should ad some descriptions on what to do in which role so a little thing about jungling with Quinn, top laning with Quinn all that jazz.
