This Garen build is specifically designed to get Garen on his feet and killing as soon as possible. The Av Blade is key to making sure that garen is able to purchase his tanky items early on in the game, while still maintaining a more than decent attack damage. I've successfully ran this build more than 20 times with massive success. I am sure the build speaks for itself. Hope you have fun with it.
I run these the armor/mag pen Marks with tremendous success. They are expensive. I am certain that pure Armor Pen marks would work wonders as well. Perhaps even better. Though, I have also ran this build with all AD marks and seriously blitzed my opponents in the early game. Always go with what works for you, this build is more than flexible.
This garen build really covers the survivability that you need to run Garen. This is why my masteries are all set to offense. A utility build might work. CDR is a huge bonus to Garen. Myself, I like to keep his damage as high as I can.
Rush into the Averis Blade so that you make as much gold with it as you can. Further, you then need to rush into CDR as soon as possible since Garen has such clutch abilities that cost no mana or energy. His only limiting factor in regards to ability use are his CD timers.
You are going to want to creep farm as best as possible so that you can build the warmongers as early in the game as possible. Judgement is key to this. Not to mention is is fantastic for cutting all champion opponents at the same time. Decisive strike is a must have no later than level two. This is because of its potency as an ability: Silence, sprint and high damage. This ability will be what wins battles for you.
Allot of people will argue that exhaust and burn are the go to spells. I honestly have little to no trouble catching and killing enemies of any kind. Bot and human. Some champions just cant be caught. This can be compensated with trickery. That being said, I use these spells almost explicitly because flash can, and will, save your life ALL of the time, while teleport gets you to the battle with expedition.
Find a good partner, preferable one with stuns, slows or popups. Draw your opponents in deep. Blitz them hard. If you enemy has a slow effect, then counter it with your decisive strike. Otherwise drive into them with judgement then auto attacks until they run. If they are fast, then use decisive strike to close ground. If your main enemy target is a mage class, then open up with Decisive strike so that they cant cast anything right away. This maneuver will most likely cause them to get to low on health to survive the pending battle after your silence. Good luck! Have run with it)
