I'd like to welcome you to my build. To be honest, I didn't work too hard on this build, not because of lack of respect for mah man Gangplank, but because he's my favorite character to play. He's my favorite leisure character, anyway. And arr, he be pimpin'. Above there are two options; "Pshh, mana is for Losers.", and "Necesito Mana >.>". If you want the highest crit/damage possible, head for the first one. However, Gangplank is limited by mana. If you're someone who really wants to never have to leave your lane, head number two. Why the runes, hurr durr. Well, Gangplank is beautifully crit reliant, and you need as much as you can get to work your way towards 100%. Parrrley is probably the greatest ability in the game, but you have to make sure it hits freaking hard. The cooldown reduction, (CDR), was actually added by me when I decided to try it on Gangplank. I originally decided to have a page of runes that were full CDR, but I thought, if Parrrley hits that hard in general, wouldn't it be nice to do more of it faster? And it is nicer.

Masteries. These are pretty straightforward, though the ending is confusing. Really, anyone who played WoW and got into hardcore spec-swapping can do masteries easily. (Unfortunately, I mained a Retribution Paladin [Which I dominated PvP at at level 80 ([See http://www.xfire.com/video/38ca1a/]), which meant I had a lot of spec-swapping to do. Yeah...

"Archaic Knowledge? YOU FU**ING DERP WTF OMG NOOB!
- Archaic Knowledge (Penetrate 15% Magic Resist) - Is very nice as it allows your poison to screw people up faster and harder. (Yeah, yeah. I know.)
"Greed? Gangplank isn't Jewish!"
- I took greed along with Awareness because when you get the Phantom Dancer and have two Avarice Blades, the long trek to the Infinity Edge can SUCK. That, and leveling up faster is very nice.

Ghost

Okay, so Gangplank is freakin' slow. And it gets to be an issue. However, there is a solution; Summoner Spells.Ghost is the most beautiful spell you will ever encounter, (Besides flash). It makes you VERY mobile, and it's great when you hear your team on vent, "HOLY **** RAMMUS MIA GTFO NAO", or, "BREH, I NEED HELP CAPPIN' THIS TEEMO, HE'S JUST OUT OF REACH AND MOVIN' TOO FASTORZ!!11!one!1"
Just know that it is beauty within itself, and allows you to get the most of some much needed mobility.

Exhaust

AMG!
The one and only irritating thing about Gangplank is his utter lack of stuns/snares/slows. That is why you must exploit one of the most beautiful spells you will ever encounter, (Besides flash).This spell not only keeps you alive, but it can keep them dead. By using this ability, you are sealing the deal; you are sure your enemy must die, though they are out of reach. In other words, ONLY USE EXHAUST WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WILL GET A KILL. Misuses of exhaust? Exhausting a Kassadin. Kassadin is useless. Teemo? There's a good exhaust target.

ALTERNATES

Teleport

Let's say you're heavily reliant on your lane partner, and you can't afford to not be in the lane. Well,Teleport can help you out. (Remember, Ghost is better, unless you REALLY are reliant on your partner! [Or if they're reliant on you]).

Flash

Flash is a very beautiful spell, and it is probably one of the most exceedingly useful; however, not in Gangplank's case. Maybe I was spoiled by playing Ezreal and Shaco, but Flash really ISN'T that great. Not for Gangplank that is. Really, if you can't stand ghost, take flash, but otherwise, even teleport would be better.

NEVER EVER TAKE...

Heal is really the only spell I'll assume people think is okay to take, and will take regardless. NO. NOT ON GANGPLANK. Gangplank can go lifesteal, if you so choose, that is, rendering heal irrelevant. GANGPLANK ALREADY HAS A HEAL! Rendering heal irrelevant. HEAL IS TERRIBLE FOR GANGPLANK. DON'T DO IT. SERIOUSLY. YOU'LL MAKE YOURSELF LOOK BAD. DON'T DO IT.
