Introduction

Hey guys, I'm gonna give you a quick guide showing how to lane and teamfight with malz. He's now my favorite champion because ryze was nerfed. Hope you enjoy and learn.

Masteries

I use these masteries for the cooldowns, increased buff duration, and mana regen in the utility tree, and the magic pen, ap per level, and cooldowns in the offensive tree.

Runes

For runes you're going to want magic pen reds cause they coincide with sorc boots, and gives you enough to counter early game mr.

For seals and glyphs you want ap per level because they work amazing with rabadons. they add in to the extra % ap and it makes these runes VERY cost efficient.

For quints you want movespeed for free harass and 390 movespeed at level 1. It really helps.

Items

So you're going to want to start the game with boots+3 pots. I like this because when you add in movespeed quints you've got the speed of boots 2 which means free harass with e all day.

Next you want to buy 2 or 3 dorans rings depending on how your lane id going for the mana regen ap an health. These items are very cost efficient so getting a few early game is very helpful.

Then upgrade to sorc boots. Sorc boots+ magic pen reds gives you almost enough magic pen to counter champions with no magic resist or magic resist runes/masteries.

After that, You're going to want to go straight into your rabadons. This item is core on Malz because of the insane ap ratios on him. The only time I might buy RoA is if I had another ap carry on the team that may need blue more like anivia or swain. If you're farming well enough you should end up with cap at around 18-20 minutes.

After rabadons you're going to want voidstaff. By now the enemy team will catch on that you can kill most of them with a full combo, and will start buying magic resist. So buy void staff to get that 40% magic pen.

Will of the Ancients is up next. With the current metagame and the fact that will was buffed a million times it has become a very cost efficient item. With two ap carries it means double the healing.

Next get Banshee's for the health and shield. the shield helps ensure your ult doesnt get interrupted. The extra mana doesn't hurt either, and magic resist is very nice.

If the game is still going, Hourglass should be your last item. It gives you 100 more ap+armor+invincibility after your ult while spells are on cd.

Laning

I am a very aggresive player and I like to start harassing as soon as I get into lane. To harass move in and use e on them then back out. If you take q first wait until level 2 to begin harass. You want to keep the opponent below 75% hp so at level 6 you can immediatly flash>E>W>R and get free kill. with movespeed quints you should have no problems getting your e onto them, and at level 5 they start hitting quite hard.

Once you hit 6 you want to get into a good position, and flash in. I usually throw in an e as well as a w but if they have flash you may want to just W>R because you don't want them to flash out. Then once your r ends you should be able to E+ignite them if necesary.

After you kill them/they go back you should push the lane as hard as you can. From here on out I play very spammy in lane with e and q. push your lane, farm all the creeps, and harass. A sign of a good mechanical player is that they can harass and get a lot of cs at the same time so keep that in mind.

Losing the lane: If you're against a really tough opponent like warwick, chogath, leblanc, or irelia just sit back and last hit with your autoattack so that they push your lane making you safe from ganks. Call for a gank from your jungle and hopefully gain land dominance from that.

Team fights

Ok, the biggest thing about malz is positioning in team fights. Don't be one of those noob "flash in ult cary huehue" people, that will get you instagibbed. If in the forest, try to get behind some terrain, set up your combo, and wait for a squishy on their team to get ot of position before ulting DO NOT INITIATE. seriosuly malz's ult is interrupatable and he is squishy, if you open the fight with your ult you will die. Look at the beginning of this video which shows xPeke, one of the strongest ap carries in the game, playing malz.

0:16 see how he's behind is team, keeping corki out of the fight? You should always stay behind the team and throw out all ou spells from a safe distance.

0:55 something i wanted to cover. QSS is a big counter to malz. If you see it on an enemy either ask you team to stun them and bait it out before ulting them or pick a different target.

2:22 This is a good example of bad positioning. Look at his team and the enemy team. This ended with him getting his ult canceled by soraka and focused by mf.

3:15 this was a good ult. It kept noc close to his team and he is one of their dps.

3:56 this was a good ultimate because their team was in kind of a cluster **** and morg was hella fed that game, so she wasn't able to get off any spells due to focus fire. Also, if your team has ashe and someone has gone in before you after a stunned person, THEn you can feel free to flash and ult them. But never open the fight with it.

Summoner Spells

I take flash and ignite so that I can play aggreisve in lane and get early kills with my ult+W+E+ignite. It's also helpful late game if you're way out of position or far from the fight.

Skill Sequence

My skill order is Q first for level 1 one fights so i can have voidling out. It goes Q>E>E>W>E>R then max e asap and then max w taking your ult when you get level 11 and 16. I max w before q bcause it does more overall damage than q but it's worse for farm because it's % max hp damage so it's a preferance.
