Sorry...no fancy coding. First Moba build.

This is the build I have been using with Irelia for the past several games. I have tried some of the other top-rated builds on here, but didn't think they were optimal. This build gives you the durability to be semi-tanky (or at least tough) and yet still dish out a great deal of burst damage.

Masteries:

I think it is very important to focus primarily on the attack side. When I first started playing Irelia, I went with 21 in DEF and 9 in OFF. It wasn't very effective. This item build gives enough health, armor, and magic resistance to last in battles. I do, however, think the "Strength of Spirit" is great for Irelia when using this build because more mana = more health regeneration. Its like buying a couple regrowth pendants.

Runes:

I like movement speed quints. They help when chasing down would-be escapees. I have also used the armor penetration quints (alongside the armor pen marks) to make Irelia hit harder and found that they are very effective. Just depends on your personal playstyle. Health seals make you look tougher early on because you have more bars of health. I love cooldown reduction on any champ who needs to be able to spam abilities. I think Irelia falls into that category.

Early game:

Remember, Irelia is still a squishy character early on. Play back and only hit and run when it is safe to do so. Farm creeps with "Q". The meki pendant helps farming in the early game because Irelia is very mana-hungry (hence the amount of mana in this build). Irelia can still do a great deal of damage with a W-Q-E combo in the early game. Use it to harass when enemy champs get too close.

Mid/late game:

By now, you should have acquired some extra mana, health, and possibly even armor or MR (get whichever is most appropriate...obviously). It becomes easier to harass with some defensive items because you can withstand a few petty attacks from the enemy, especially with the lifesteal and Irelia's ult. Abuse the short CD on her ult. Use it to heal, harass, or farm masses of minions.

Irelia is a burst-damage nuke. I always try to hit and run enemies who get too close. Many underestimate how much damage she can do in a split second. Remember, W-Q-E, then retreat depending on the situation. I do not like to initiate team battles with Irelia. I leave that to the tanks. Once they have created the diversion and attracted all the attention, I leap to the back to attack the squishy carries. Make sure flash is available in case you need to back out.

I like having all the movement speed for chasing down fleeing enemies. Irelia's bladesurge followed by her slow/stun (Equilibrium Strike) prevents them from escaping. Irelia is, after all, an assassin.

I rarely get to the Trinity Force, but the times I have...its awesome. I have never tried to get it before the Hextech Gunblade. It might be a good idea for the AD proc. I just like the gunblade because it gives both AD and AP, plus a great deal more lifesteal. It makes Irelia even tougher to bring down. IMO, fighters need to be tough so the squishies can effectively kite team battles w/o being the first target. People always think I will go down easily. Doesn't happen.
