Playing middle.

I've played Irelia on a few different builds but I tried this on a couple different characters and decided to try it on Irelia. Works pretty well. I don't like trinity force because of the high cost. It's a general item that always gets put in, but I don't think its necessary. The attack speed utilizes her stuns & slows along with the critical strike. Why HRG pendant in the beginning? Keeps you in the game long enough to regen with hiten style that you wont need to go home unless you're buying. Why no trinitiy force? It's SO EXPENSIVE! Not worth 4,000 or whatever it costs.

Basically, harass at lv.3-4, and once the opponent is under 40% hp, you'll be lv.6 and can jump on them, ult, exhaust, and wreck their face. Works well, but I haven't tried it on ALL the champs.

I've tried using dodge runes/ninja tabai boots. if that's a more reasonable route, by all means. the beserker boots give boosted attack speed % and are real cheap. you can get all you items pretty early in game.

The reason I have thornmail/another phantom dancer is because games are different. If the opposing team has high physical damage, a thornmail might help on 1v1's if you can't stun enough.

Beware of Jarvan.
