Champion Build Guide

Nautilus, the broken support

By precoggg
Introduction
Nautilus support is absolutely broken right now. With his CC, Aftershock, and the gigantic shield that synergizes so well with his runes, he's just a monster. He wins games that other supports would never have a chance of with his overtuned kit. One of the most broken things about this champ are the runes he can use. The Revitalize rune increases his already massive shield. The Shield Bash rune also increases his shield and increases his damage. This is why you max the shield and always look for opportunities to brawl. He also runs Aftershock which needs no explanation.
The build
When you're playing Nautilus just start out with Relic Shield. It gives you a decent amount of health as the game goes on and AP to help his abilities tickle a little more. Make sure to proactively farm cannon minions with this item to gain the extra health bonus as quickly as possible. With your core build you're going to be rushing Zeke's Convergence. First start building towards Glacial Shroud. The armor, mana, and cooldown that it grants are perfect for Naut. You will rarely have enough money to one shot Glacial Shroud on your first back so it’s usually wise to go with two Cloth Armor or Cloth Armor and Boots. Look to buy Boots of Swiftness eventually. These allow you to proc your passive more reliably. Because of the shield that Naut gets from his W, it's not as imperative to rush health early. Zeke's convergence is just a terrific item. The passive is an absolute game-changer in team fights, especially with a good ADC. It also gives a good amount of MR so all of your bases are covered. Next you'll normally want to go after Knight’s Veil. This gives you the health you are missing from Zeke's and provides you with another game-changing passive. If you desperately need MR you can substitute going for Locket here but you're normally alright on MR from Zeke's. You’re normally more needy for HP and the passive Knight’s Veil provides. Next item to go is Locket. This gives you a terrific active for team fights. The last item you choose can be many different things. There is not a definitive item that one should go. The support items with the best synergies have already been picked up at this point. Most the time you won't even make it to this stage. And you may just want to be pink wards in the slot. However, if you're looking to build an item, I normally like to go Sunfire Cape. I love the damage and tankiness that it provides. It allows you to brawl more with people. You could also go Frozen Gauntlet, Frozen Heart, or Abyssal mask. I don’t normally go Redemption because the mana-regen and passive aren’t needed.
Playstyle
When playing Nautilus, you just want to basically frontline and attack the closest target to you. Even if it's a tank, just hook them pull them in and start attacking them. Your massive shield will allow you to tank much more than what they're probably expecting and survive. Don't try to reach the back line or dive their carries. Just be the front line and allow your CC and your items that you're running to do the work. Don't be afraid to steal kills as this champion. The gold is very good on you, especially if you're building these items which are very gold efficient and provide lots of utility for your team. When team fighting as Nautilus start off with the R. R the target closest to you, then walk up with your shield up and root them. Then hit your E to slow them and keep them near you. If they do start running away that's when you use the Q to bring yourself in range again. When you're chasing people down don't always start off with your Q. A lot of times they're looking to dodge it. Just put on your W and walk up to them and root them. Then slow them. Then when they're running away in a straight line you can throw your Q and won't miss.
