Guide Updates

Introduction

This is my guide to Renekton, the burst DPS. I find it better to build him with burst instead of sustained damage. With this guide I will go over pro's and con's, runes, alternate choices for runes, masteries, items, item sequence, skill importance, and "combo".

Pros / Cons

Strong burst damage
Fairly versatile (Can Off-Tank, Tank-Hybrid or Full-DPS)
Has the ability to jungle
Lots of AoE damage
High damaging stun
Has an "In your face" ability (Dash/Blink)
Very underestimated

Squishy early game
If focused, you will die

Runes

Greater Mark of DesolationThere should be no replacement for Armor Penetration.
The extra armor always helps out early game squishiness.
Same as the . You could potentially replace this with CD, but you won't need it once you have Golem Buff.
This could be replaced with Greater Quintessence of Desolation. I use the Armor Pen, and have yet to have a problem. I'm a firm believer of "The best defense is a great offense."

Evasion 4/4
Harden Skin 3/3
Veteran's Scars 4/4

DPS Items

  1. Boots
  2. Health Potion

You could possible switch out the boots with a Doran's Shield, but it's important to get max CDR as soon as possible.

  3. Ionian Boots of Lucidity
  4. Long Sword

You could always just wait until you have enough money for a The Brutalizer before you go back.

  5. The Brutalizer
  6. Vampiric Scepter

That's pretty much your core build. A lot of people choose to get Spirit Visage for more survivability and more CDR. And now that you have Vampiric Scepter, you should be able to take Golem Buff with ease and max your CDR. So now we need a little more damage.

  7. B. F. Sword

  8. B. F. Sword

And now that we have some good DPS flowing, we're gonna want more health to be able to live through the long fights, right? Well, here you can get a Frozen Mallet in place of Warmog's Armor if your doing a lot of chasing. But seeing as how easy Renekton can farm, might as well get as much HP as possible.

  9. Giant's Belt
  10. Ruby Crystal

Go ahead and grab that last B. F. Sword.

  11. B. F. Sword

  12. Youmuu's Ghostblade
  13. Warmog's Armor
  14. Bloodthirster

Thats about the gist of his DPS build. You might be able to swap out a Bloodthirster for a Black Cleaver.

So it should look like...

DPS w/ Magic Resistance Items

  1. Boots
  2. Health Potion

CDR is still very important. You still want to get it as soon as possible.

  3. Ionian Boots of Lucidity
  4. Long Sword

Here we start working on The Brutalizer and grab Movespeed 2.

  5. The Brutalizer
  6. Vampiric Scepter

You can split these into two different buy sessions. Or even possibly just completely skip the Vampiric Scepter and buy Bloodthirster all in one trip later.

  7. Spirit Visage

Spirit Visage gives us just about everything we like. More health, More healing from vamping, and this should bring you to 37% CDR if you don't have the runes.

  8. Hexdrinker

Hexdrinker gives more attack, more Magic Resistance, as well as a nice life saving shield.

  9. B. F. Sword
  10. B. F. Sword

Now that we have enough Magic Resistance, we should start working on more damage. So grab a couple of B. F. Sword and we can call it a day.

  11. Youmuu's Ghostblade
  12. Bloodthirster
  13. Bloodthirster

Now that we have sufficient damage, as well as survivability against heavy AP champs, you should start seeing a difference in the team fights. You could swap out a Bloodthirster for a Frozen Mallet if you feel you need more HP. Or even a Banshee's Veil to counter particular champions.

So it should look like...

Skill Sequence

Dominus This is obviously the first thing you want to max.
Cull the Meek This will provide you the Attack Range that you'll need to chase for that last hit, as well as better healing.
Slice and Dice This is your "Hi, I'm in your face and I'm going to punch you in the throat now" as well as "What's that? You have friends? Later!"
Ruthless Predator This is what your going to use on the enemy carry. It'll shut down most of them.

So basically, your harassing combo is going to look like...
Slice and Dice To get in.
Ruthless Predator To keep them in place.
Cull the Meek To heal any sustained damage, as well as dealing a little more.
Slice and Dice To get back on your side of the minions.

Teamfights switch it up a little bit...
Dominus
Slice and Dice
Cull the Meek
Slice and Dice
Ruthless Predator
Cull the Meek

Closing Comments

This is still a work in progress. I'm still messing with ways to build him for different scenarios.
