Sample Build 1: Won Lane :)

Threats to Kennen with this build
|Akali||You dominate her early game. Poke hard with Q, and every single time you have a stack activate W. Harass with autos, especially your empowered.|
|Twisted Fate||You Win. Just trade with Q and W.|
Welcome to my guide about Kennen. A little bit about myself... I am a Gold Kennen player who has been playing ranked since Season 4. I normally play with 5 mans with my friends and try to enjoy myself over pushing for high elo. Kennen is my favorite champion by far and his kit enjoyable and amazing. Kennen is a high damage AP Carry that can sway a team fight and game with just a good flash Ult. This champion is an amazing solo queue pick for any mid or top lane veterans looking to carry games with easy to land ults and super high damage output.
Mark of the Storm
This is what makes Kennen, it lets you stun everyone and keep applying stuns on people. Every ability in your kit applies a stack of this and when you reach three then you stun the target for 1.25 seconds and gain 25 energy. If the stun is applied more than once within 6 seconds, it has a diminished effect and only stuns for approximately 0.5 seconds.
Thundering Shuriken is your Q. It is your poking tool and does some high damage. MAGIC DAMAGE: 75 / 115 / 155 / 195 / 235 (+ 75% AP)
Electrical Storm is your W. This ability has two parts a passive and an active. PASSIVE: Kennen deals bonus magic damage and applies a Mark of the Storm once every 5 basic attacks. MAGIC DAMAGE: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% AD
ACTIVE: Kennen sends out a surge of electricity to all nearby enemies afflicted by Mark of the Storm or caught in Slicing Maelstrom, dealing magic damage. MAGIC DAMAGE: 65 / 95 / 125 / 155 / 185 (+ 55% AP)
Lightning Rush is your E. This doubles Kennen's movement speed and gives his 10 MR and Armor based on the rank of the skill. While in his E, he is able to move through units, is unable to auto-attack and also applies a Mark of the Storm to each unit he passes through. Kennen deals double damage when he passes through Champions and also gains 40 energy for passing through a unit. MAGIC DAMAGE: 42.5 / 62.5 / 82.5 / 102.5 / 122.5 (+ 30% AP)
Slicing Maelstrom is your R a.k.a. Ultimate. This ability is the ability that blows up carries, stuns everything under the sun, and makes the enemy team scream and curse. Kennen summons a magical storm around himself for 3 seconds, dealing magic damage to all enemies within range every 0.5 seconds. Slicing Maelstrom deals 25% less damage with each successive strike against a target, down to a minimum of 50%. MAGIC DAMAGE PER BOLT: 80 / 145 / 210 (+ 40% AP)
- Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: +0.87 Magic Penetration
- Greater Seal of Armor: +1 Armor
- Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power: +0.17 Ability Power per Level (+3.06 at Champion Level 18)
- Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: +4.95 Ability Power
For runes it is pretty standard, no funny business. 9 Magic Pen. Marks, 9 Armor Seals, and the choice of either 9 Scaling AP Glyphs or 9 Magic Resist ones. If you are a good laner and feel you can withstand the damage take the scaling AP, if not then take the MR.
For masteries, its again straight forward. Standard AP Thunderlord's page. Take the Oppressor mastery in Ferocity as Kennen is the Stun King.
Check out my items tab, I go very in depth about when to buy and what to buy. Again however if you are losing lane or getting bullied out too hard then rush Abyssal's Scepter or Zhonya's Hourglass. If not go straight into Protobelt-01. Other than that its just following a core set, not many options. Protobelt-01 -> Zhonya's Hourglass -> Rylai's Crystal Scepter -> Rabadon's Deathcap -> Luden's Echo is they have little MR or Void Staff if they have MR. Remember to grabs boots. I recommend Sorcerer's Shoes to get that last extra damage through on the carries.
Max Q, then Alternate W and E. HEAR ME OUT! Please don't crucify me yet. Your Q is a must. The reason for alternating W and E is that they are both equal in terms of damage and utility. The only difference in upgrading them is W gives you more damage on your empowered auto and drops the cooldown. The E drops the cooldown and gives you resistances. Finish W if you need that extra bit of damage or finish E if you find you need that extra bit of resistance to get into the enemy team and ult them down.
Mid Lane run Ignite and Flash for that kill potential. If you find you like to farm it out and go ham during team fights run Barrier. If you are with a 5 man and feel you can abuse TP then feel free to do so. It is a great way to close the gap of mid and bot and get an easy double kill.
In Ranked Play Kennen is a monster. Kennen's role is to flash into the enemy team and catch the carries with his ultimate. This can easily win the teamfight because with a tiny lead Kennen's ult can instakill a carry and make the fight a 4v5 or even 3v5 with ease. Pair this guy with an Amumu Jungle or a Malphite top and you have got yourself a team fight to be reckoned with.

+High AP Damage
+Can Stun 5 People by Pressing R

CSing for Dummies
For Kennen you start Doran's Blade to help with last hitting, and because you have no mana and your W amplifies with your AD ratio. This helps Kennen CS with ease. Do not be afraid to use your empowered autos to secure the caddy minion or any other minion for that matter. A great way to clear minions early game is using E to put a stack on the wave, and the using W to chunk them all down. Later in the game you can pair this with your Protobelt-01 to instaclear a giant wave.
As Kennen you have two types of roles in team fights. Engage, and Re-engage. If you are engaging you should usually have flash or Protobelt-01 up, or both. Wait for their carries to get close enough together that you will hit them with your ultimate. The plan for engage is to flash onto the carries and either stun and kill them, or stun and zhonya's and allow your team to get close enough to finish the job. The re-engage tactic is one that is harder to pull of but still doable. IF your team got caught a little bit with their pants down but you are still healthy and have ult, you can turn really hard and stun everyone else. This allows your team to turn and deal some lethal amounts of damage to the enemy team.
If you are a solo queue player who wants some easy LP, and some intense and crazy play potential, then Kennen Mid is for you. He is great in the current meta and is good against most laners. However he does have his skill cap just like every mid laner. If played right, Kennen can go from having one kill to having 20 kills in about three minutes.
As this current meta changes I will constantly be updating this guide, please leave comments and feedback about what I could do to make this guide more user friendly as this is my first one.
Thank you very much! Sean a.k.a. Kennen One Trick.
Patch 6.13 Changes
Not a whole lot has been changed in terms in AP items and Kennen. It was a lot of Champ changes and a big Ryze update.
